Language / "Pan" or "Ty" - how people address each other in Poland? [55]

When I was first in Poland during the mid- to late 90's

Was that the time you spent three days there and learned how to speak the Polish language proficiently ?
I'm sure you posted that you were in Poland for just a few days.

Travel / Is it safe to drive in Poland? [43]

No, that is not the way the conversation would go at all.

your infantile arguments smell of another smartass troll.

I think you just nailed it pawian.
This guy just wants to see how many hits he can get on his new thread.
He obviously DOES NOT know how the laws work in the U.S.A. and he is trying to pretend that he is a New York lawyer.

There is another law though that hasn't been mentioned which is, "withholding evidence from a police officer" which WILL put you in jail in many instances.

I'd welcome actually the police in the US to arrest me because I'd collect money for false arrest.

You wouldn't do crap my friend, the police could stack charge after charge on you for any damn thing they wanted,
A police officers job is to merely collect evidence to charge you with and then turns it over to the prosecutor and he decides what to prosecute you with.

Cops in the U.S. loves smart asses like you and have been trained how to make your life a living hell.

It is no crime not to cooperate with the police either.

REALLY now, withholding evidence is most certainly a major crime son. (jail time)
They would provoke the hell out of a guy like you (they are trained exactly how to do it) and slap resisting and obstructing (a felony) on you and throw your dupa in the can.

You then would have to go find yourself a real attorney to represent you that would cost you AT LEAST $5000 retainer up front, that you would never get back, even if you won your case.

That is why you say yes sir and no sir and I will help anyway that I can.
Call it what you want but if you are doing nothing wrong you don't have to worry about any of your nonsense here.
Guys like you are the ones that are always claiming the police are picking on them.
Can you imagine that !

Discuss laws in Poland please.

If you have that, you aren't responsible.

Well there you go, I made my point perfectly clear.
I think the OP is just trying to be difficult by not using any common sense.

doesn't want to reveal whom he sold it to.

Baloney.......if you sold your car you are no longer responsible for it.
If someone commits a crime with your knife or your car because of your negligence then you become accountable for being irresponsible..

You become a criminal for a crime you haven't committed.

If I were to leave my loaded gun out where someone had access to it and they took it and killed someone then I am responsible for being negligent.

I know this generation has lost those two words, 'accountable' and 'responsible', in their vocabulary.

I'd hope it's not a crime in Poland not to know who drives your car?

What country in the world where it is not a crime to know who drove your car ? Do tell.
In fact if you don't have your car locked or you leave your keys in the ignition and someone steals it your insurance will not cover your loses.

That law, camera's and all the other hypotheticals here all 'force' millennials to be responsible and accountable for being dumb.

Actually new cars can record your location, how fast you are driving, how hard you brake, how much gas you put in your car, how many miles you have driven, all which some day your car insurance company will have access to in order to determine how much to charge you for your insurance and have reason to cancel your policy or give you a discount for your safe driving.

Poland is no different then any other developed country with camera's every place from entering buildings, in buildings, on the roads, in parking lots, banks, checkout lanes in grocery stores, gas stations.......everywhere.

Big brother is always watching you so get use to it because it is only going to get worse with the new ones that can determine face recognition up to a kilometer away.

Invest in hoodies and sunglasses is the only answer I have.
Yes, Ronald Reagan was one of the best presidents of our life time without question, by a normal thinking person.

More road cameras are needed,

We have dash cams here in the U.S. that are available for under a $100.
Poland maybe should start installing them in their cars to catch people driving recklessly and flipping off courteous drivers.
Make the fines hefty enough to make reckless drivers think twice before they break the law.
You are right though Doug, road camera's are very effective.

Stop treating Poland like some sort of skansen.

Now now, you know the rules here, Respond to the post and not the poster.
I think you have a deserved warning coming for your provoking AGAIN.

I think you don't take homemade kielbasa seriously enough.

Actually here in the State that I live in (with a very high Polish population) people take it very seriously making their own sausage.
We harvest about 500,000 deer every fall and a lot of that meat is turned into the finest sausage you ever tasted.
I personally make 10kg of assorted recipes just for myself and friends.
We trade it back and forth always trying to perfect it better then the last batch.
This is why I assumed that Polish farmers that raised their own pork would do the same thing.
I was hoping to try different kinds to get a delicious Polish recipe to bring home with me.

Hahahahaha ;)

You know the Mods have had to clean my thread up three times now because of your provoking.
I think it's time you get a suspension the next time you do it.

How about the roads in rural Poland East of Krakow ?
Lots of chuck holes or are they paved smooth to these Villages ?
I heard the Polish drivers are some of the worst in Europe.
Renting a car sounds more fun then taking a train but just how safe would it be to drive yourself ?
Thanks for any 'Positive feedback' that may help me making such a choice.

The vast majority

I will be seeking out the vast minority that make their sausages at home.

Stop treating Poland like some sort of skansen.

If I did, which I didn't, it wouldn't be half as bad as how you have belittled the Polish people.
(How you enjoy taking advantage of the Polish people and how your Polish students stink)
Would you like me to go to my archives to remind you ?

Go read post #18 so you understand what cms was referring to.

You're writing it like it is some kind of "measure of civilisation"

Well it kinda is Spike.
When I come to Poland I want to try some Villagers homemade Polish sausage not try a civilized Big Mac.

Thank you guys so much for taking the time to explain these things to me.
It really is much appreciated.

Why do you assume that people in rural areas are poor?

I guess because that is where a lot of the poor White people live in America.

Sure if you wnat to meet real Polish people guest hauses are a good idea.

Those are my full intentions at this point.

I think the problem you have

No, it's the problem that you have because I think no such thing nor have I ever said any such thing.
You are projecting your own thought pattern to be mine.
I said that I wanted to visit the area of where my ancestors lived in Poland and that Warsaw would be of little interest to me besides the Salt Mines and the War Museum.

The most sophisticated artwork is as much Polish culture as is some old folk song .

I have no problem agreeing with that statement.
Personally though I could give a rats pa toot about sophisticated artwork culture, I personally prefer the roots of a culture like where and how my relatives lived in Poland before they were forced to leave.

Isn't that the thread title ?

Really, do they have indoors flush toilets too ?
Come on Bud, those villages can't help but have stronger roots to Polish culture then a disco club does in Warsaw.
And that is what tourists like me come to experience.

Not saying that Jaskier.
The big cities are becoming very Americanized with infrastructures, English speaking, latest technology, etc.
The people in say Warsaw have McDonalds and Kentucky Fried with modern conveniences (all which I can experience in Chicago) which helps lose old Polish culture.

While the village people are still accustomed to the old Polish culture which is much more appealing to tourists. (that I can't experience in Chicago)

When I come to Poland as a tourist I want to envision my ancestors culture before they were forced to run for their lives.

It's rural tourism or agroturystyka in Polish.

The kind that is of interest to tourists that want to experience the REAL Polish people and the Real Polish culture.
Not saying the Salt Mines and War Museum wouldn't be of interest however to learn the culture of Poland agroturystyka would be the way to go.

Basically it's usually guesthouses

Again, a better education about Poland's culture then taking an elevator to your room in Warsaw out of touch with much feel for Poland.

Another thing that needs to be improved is social mobility -

It's great that you recognize this cms.
There is a lot of wonderful minds and talent out there that never gets an opportunity to develop into their full potential.
That is a sin.
You will find those shocking living standards, for some, in every country in the world.
We have them here in America too.
I wouldn't expect Poland to be any different.

Spike, I know it may sound stupid to you but what raw products besides minimum amounts of home grown foods and livestock ?
Certainly not enough to support a family who all have I-phones.
They must live a very conservative and simple life with no extra's.

Is it really that bad there Doug ?
You cut down tress so new ones can grow, you dumb rubbish to make compost and how are they polluting the country rivers ?
And why would they vote to change what is working so they can march to their own beat ?
Sounds like they are doing the best they can with what they've got to work with.

Thanks Buddy.
We Americans hear very little about rural Poland if anything.
Especially eastern Poland where my ancestors originated.
To me it is very interesting how poor people can live so independently and survive.
Eastern Poland sounds much more interesting then the big cities to visit.
I think that area would be where you would meet the real Polish people and learn the real Polish culture.

We always talk about the bigger cities of Poland but my inquisitive mind wonders how people support their families in the very small country villages.

As poor as Poland is in some of these little villages, located far from the bigger cities, I can't imagine many jobs that would pay enough to support a family.

Are the school systems up to par with the bigger cities ?
Do students have the same opportunities as the students in the bigger cities such as being able to attend universities ?
What opportunities do the children have to compete in local sports ?
It just seems that the youth living rural Poland would be at a major disadvantage to progress in life.
Please enlighten me on the structure of these outer smaller villages in Poland to be able to survive and progress in life.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

I know that facts are you enemies, Johnny,

Here are some of what I base my facts on:

theguardian.com/environment/gallery/2018/dec/14/poland-deadly-coal-addiction-in-pictures

I know common sense is not a gift Spike, it's a punishment because I have to deal with people like you who don't have it.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

I cannot discern that any of the powers that be are _really_ concerned about climate change.

And this is why Trump boycotted the Summit.
Six months after the Summit the U.S.A. had decreased our carbon output yet China who did attend the Summit increased their carbon output.

How can you compete with a country like that ?
While Poland refuses nuclear energy and keeps right on burning cheap dirty coal.
Seems nobody wants to sacrifice squat to fix the problem and the finger pointing continues.
The only fix I can see is another world war to eliminated 80% of the population.

News / British man accused of molesting teenagers in Poland [74]

Very enlightening thread.

it most certainly will have happened because Poland hasn't bothered to introduce a system of checks.

Has there been any progress made in Poland in the last eight years for thorough back ground checks for people working and having unsupervised contact with children ?

If so what is the name of such authority ?
