History / Is there a historical Polish business/company registry? (Szczekociny - early 1900's or late 1800's) [2]

Maybe not much help but the Szczekociny Municipality website has some historic draft of the town and a few photos:

In the XIX century Szczekociny belong to clans of £ubieński, Czacki, Halpert. In the city dominates small trade, weaving, shoemaking. A small cloth factory and distilleries established here Like a number of small towns of Congress Poland, Szczekociny lost its town charter in 1870 to reclaim it again in 1923.

At that time, a serious economic strength begins to form the Jewish population in the town which was increasingly eager to settle down in Szczekociny, finding here a favorable climate and good neighborliness. The interwar period confirms the status of the city as a local administrative and economic center.

(sorry for the clumsy translation)

Check also History of Szczekociny Facebook page: facebook/HistoriaSzczekocin/photos_stream

Somewhat more photos over there..

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

Maybe I'm not up-to-date with every Polish movie, but check everything with Marcin Dorocinski, respected and well-known Polish actor:

I recently watched the "Serce, Serduszko" and I liked it much.

Life / Tattoo Artist Recommendations in Poland? [12]

Those Art-Line and Jazz are often mentioned in a Polish discussion about which tattoo place in Poznan to choose - they have generally good reviews. If you need yet some other recommendations and know Polish a bit (or don't afraid of Google translations), read this:

Life / Water and Heating Charges in Poland [14]

They defrauded the money from EU for modernization of the water supply system and have been forced to repay the loan. Of course all costs were transferred on us residents...

There's no choice to change the water supplier except to move out.

Life / Water and Heating Charges in Poland [14]

We pay almost 200zl/month for the water alone (60% of this is the waste water charge) - however our town is one of the most expensive regarding the water fees.

Love / Do Polish men think that Polish girls are materialistic and demanding ? [37]

Polish girls are materialistic and demanding ?

It must be something about it. Here's the proof:

First this guy approach to a girl (in Poland), but he is rejected with the Polish f*** off (because of his poor look?) The class girl.

Next, the same guy, this time on a nice bike, wearing a helmet and speaking English - and she takes the bait at once (without knowing that's the same dude).

What a world..

Language / Message from Polish speaking friend (in English) translation help [13]

The poll:

What is a chance that this phrase in Ponglish:

I think that is her right

means this in English?:

she is doing the right thing

My vote, as a Pole who learns English, is: no more than 50% (probably less)

Although a good remark from Jon.

Life / How much to convert a petrol car 1.4 cm3 or 1.6 cm3 to LPG in Poland? [7]

In every major city you will find companies which deal with this business.
What to say - driving is a bit less expensive, but the car becomes less dynamic. Furthermore the cost of technical inspection is slightly bigger, it's also an additional element which may fail in your car.

In conclusion I'm not sure if converting a small car with the engine less than 1.8-1.9 is worth it.

Real Estate / Chlebice village, near Zary, Poland [3]

Chlebice - (Ger. Wiesenthal), a village located in Lubuskie, in the district of Żary, in the municipality Tuplice.

In the years 1975-1998 the town administratively belonged to the province of Zielona Gora.

In 2006, the village had a population of 41 people.

ziemialubuska.pl/1734,1701,,.html & wiki

From the comments it can be concluded that once it was a very nice, picturesque village, but now it's very neglected place:

Even hard to look at it. How can one go to these beautiful woods, explore the ponds and other remains of the former German infrastructure without being annoyed? The misery of the local people, messed up fences, empty buildings and trash in the middle of the village, someone arranged a German dump here..

Language / Beginner learner of Polish having trouble with nouns - they change as well as numbers? [27]

is the genitive case always used when asking how many there are?

Yes - genitive, but it must be more than one and for different numbers the endings also differs:
2-4 jabłka / 33 jabłka - 5 (and more) jabłek, but 23-24/33-34... jabłka - 1 Jabłko - 0 jabłek
2-4 piłki / 5 (and more) piłek, but 23-24/33-34... piłki - 1 piłka - 0 piłek
2-4 oceny / 5 (and more) ocen, but 23-24/33-34... oceny - 1 ocena - 0 ocen

Language / Doubt about demonstrative pronouns [8]

Good question.
The single 'oto' word without the 'jest' or 'to', etc. applies to things/people/objects which can be indicated by the finger, show directly - things we see/hear/feel with our senses .

It's my personal interpretation only and may not fully describe the issue.

oto

Right - and then you can omit the 'jest' and 'ta' (te/to) words - it seems even simpler.

Life / Where can I buy a bed frame (as in the picture) in Poland? [10]

The shops called Jysk may have something what you want:
jysk.pl/sypialnia/spody-do-lozek

If you are looking for the most affordable option check local "szrot" - an open space area with used things (everything). The furnishings over there are often in great shape (at least at szrot's in our neighborhood) and several times cheaper of course.

Life / How to transfer money from a prepaid simcard (PLAY) to another prepaid simcard [9]

It's worth to add, that if you want to 'withdraw' some of the phone money into your bank account in Poland you can check some online services which offer such possibility. Remember however, that the regular money 'recovery' rate is about 30% - I found one site though, where they claim that you'll get back 50% and more of the money you sent them via a premium sms (it works that way in another places too) - see this:

Law / Leasing a car - is this common in Poland? [4]

The leasing market in Poland is constantly growing. The average growth rate is twice higher than the average leasing transactions in Europe. Compared to the last year, leasing cars in Poland increased by over 15%.

Check the current statistics for the 2015 (and comparison with the 2014):
leasing.org.pl/statystyki/2015

any good websites

Only if you know Polish, for ex. here is a short guide on how to lease an auto in Poland:

For the financing of the leasing company can apply anyone who runs a business, regardless of the type of conducted activity and the industry in which it operates. Of course, the final effect of such deal, however, depends on many factors, so usually for each customer an offer is treated and considered very individually.

The procedure of the leasing agreement for small and medium-sized enterprises is very simple. - The first step you should do is pick a car about to be leased, and after making this choice, we can go to the leasing company, where together with the advisor we discuss detailed terms of the transaction ... - Next the entrepreneur is obliged to provide the required documents, which are kept to a minimum in the case of a simplified procedure, which is used in a less complicated contracts

Real Estate / Buying the "Grunt" in a mieszkanie in Poland - How does that work? [2]

This is quite common situation in Poland (buying a property on the city ground)
I have just one hint. People sometimes purchasing a property without any notarial act. Remember that such agreement is not valid.
So the garage will be yours, but for the ground you will pay the rent.
