News / Highlights of passing year, in Poland (or elsewhere) which made hot discussions in PF [57]

But uneducated morons still insist on using it.

Because it is correct to use it. It is a deliberate misunderstanding that the statement infers the camps are of Polish origin. Native English speakers understand it exactly. It appears only the Poles complain about it and then we have a wave Political Correctness. Its the kind of reaction you get from a guilty child; from now on, for the sake of PC, I will refer to them as "The German death camps on the territory of Poland". What a waste of words!

How can we rephrase "Norway is trying to steal our blond, blue eyed children" to make it more PC? In fact what connotation can we make from this statement?

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

Laughable don’t you think?

Laughable because it is your interpretation. Now I wonder what would possess me to check the facts on here first? Could it be I wanted to be sure first?

No I must be trolling in your mind.

If I wanted to troll, I could do much better than this. It's not hard on here is it.

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

Seriously?

Oh my here we go again. Exactly what I wanted to avoid.

The kid and his father are right; Hitler had nothing to do with Poznan and if I were you I would leave Hitler and Elvis sightings where they belong, the science fiction section.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Castle_in_Pozna%C5%84

The wiki article says nothing about Adolf actually spending any time there. That is why I asked the question. If you can't point me to something useful, don't bother.

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

A hero were the words used. It is said the grandfather was an SS officer. Maybe family traditions. I hear he beat the cr*p out of an elderly guy that asked for money on a tram near Olszynka in Poznan on Friday. It would be interesting if this story could be confirmed in some way. I doubt it can but I do know the beaten guy was arrested.

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

Yes Wikipedia :)

That must be just before they abandoned it then.

I'm trying to find information to re-educate an 8yr old child who believes Hitler had nothing to do with Poznan and is a hero because his dad told him; so his mum must be a liar. Some parents just don't deserve to be.

History / Poznan Castle did Hitler stay there? [12]

Poznan castle was converted into a residence for Adolf Hitler in the style of the Third Reich by Albert Speer. Can anyone say if Adolf Hitler actually stayed there or not? If he did stay there for a period of time, however short, could you please provide me with a link to the information.

This is not a provocative question. Please do not take it as such.

Its not but bare in mind if you have an accident it will be very expensive as I doubt you will be insured. Think about other people and don't be selfish.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Does anyone know,I have paid Polish Zus for the last twenty years if i go back to the UK as i was born in London can I Claim a UK pension.

No but I believe there are schemes running in Poland where you set up a business in the UK(10 minute job), hire yourself out from your UK company, to your Polish company, and can establish an entitlement to a UK pension. I don't know the ins and outs. You will have to your own research. It's a loophole that needs closing.

News / Polish families are urged to establish themselves in Norway : Taking children away? [36]

You do not really comprehend what a situation Norway today is in, by the de-christianizing of the country by present government, more preoccupied with homosexuals than families and children's welfare...

Norway is consistently criticized for being over zealous regarding children's welfare.

Another way of looking at this is the church is screwing itself over. Society has moved on but the church is digging its heels on many matters. By being actively homophobic, not only is it driving out homosexuals, it is not appealing to the liberals. It is a fight you cannot win. Simply the tide has turned.

News / Poland braces for economic slowdown [30]

You're talking about ESL stuff...well, dosen't that creat a market for your local ESL teachers?

Its the reverse actually. They tend use Polish speakers for the ESL children. We have a shortage of Polish speakers amongst the natives unsurprisingly. Look how many English teachers are on here working in Poland!

don't tell me that Poles don't pay taxes, every time the local store's tilt rings, your Majesty collects tax

I wasn't and I understand this.

Now your major dailies were calling on Poles to head back home

I don't think this is true even of the Daily Mail. They were just pointing out how it was going tits up and at the same time stirred up a little resentment.

Most Brits woudn't work - they're better off on welfare, as your bennies are way tooooo genereous - and had no intention to "actively" look for a job.

That is just not true. I agree there are a minority and that there are some specific areas that think this is a right but overall we are talking a minority. I believe this to be true because when I placed ads in the job centre from 1998 onwards my business lines were swamped. I did interview one individual that asked me not to give him a job. I knew him as the local motorcycle thief, so he was kind of employed :) Just waiting for his next holiday in HMP.

News / Poland braces for economic slowdown [30]

Often migrants will repatriate some of their incomes back to their native homelands so yes Poland's economy would see the benefit from this when Poles who go abroad still have ties back home.

I wasn't thinking along those lines, more like it cut Polands potential unemployment rate.

I think there is some fact and some fiction in the rest you are saying. The town in which I live is mostly industrial/manufacturing. There has been a massive influx from Poland, Lithuania and Estonia with some from Portugal, former Yugoslavia and African countries. Seven years ago this was one of the whitest towns in England because the ******** that lived here before were racist beyond belief.

Contrary to the competition ideal, what actually happened here is this. The immigrants arrived and there were few jobs available. Their first port of call was the job agencies. The job agencies saw an angle on this. Instead of supplying school/college leavers they could supply adults for the same money. They knew the new arrivals were desperate an ill informed. They also knew the school leavers were using them as a step on the ladder upwards and were not long term prospects. From early 2005 I was getting weekly calls from agencies, blatantly transgressing UK employment laws, offering a new way of employing people including advice on how to get rid of existing staff. So we ended up with immigrants replacing school leavers and to be fair, these people were often put in difficult situations. 3 days work one week, a days work the next. Effectively keeping them in a desperate position. They had to work like trojans in a vain hope they were noticed. Nearly all of these were on minimum wage unless they had a special skill with certification that matched a UK standard. There cannot be many of these as I see no reason for them to leave Poland.

So what we have ended up with here is a lot of adults on minimum wage who have hours that are not guaranteed. Effectively a school leavers wage. Because there incomes are so low, what they pay in tax is returned in Working Tax Credits. School leavers that have had the bottom rung removed. I have to mention benefit fraud here too although it is a subject I usually avoid of PF. Some Poles figured out if they told the local council they were not partners and rented a 2 bedroom flat, they could sub let one room and one of them could claim an allowance towards their rent. £130 a month I think. This is a common benefit fraud. The smarter Poles figured out if they rented a 5 bedroomed house they could sub let and live for free. Good thinking! I agree the influx pushed rents up, but again, many landlords here are cash only. I doubt this is declared in full. For example the council rating here is £460/month for a three bedroomed house, whereas you would be hard pushed to find something under £600. Thats a £140 that the taxman doesn't need to know about. I'm sure they are more careful than that though. Schools have also had their budgets either stretched or enlarged because they have extra expenditure on teachers specifically for the ESL children. Lets say each ESL teacher is payed £18000 pa and we have 12 schools, thats a lot of cash to generate from tax. It doesn't add up.

I see a benefit regarding council tax. Its impossible to avoid realistically. Also the more people the local council have paying council tax, the more they get from central government. Council tax itself is another failure. Basing a tax on a property rather than occupation is dumb. Margaret Thatchers poll tax was the way forward, but the hideously inept implementation has ruled that out for the foreseeable future.

Overall in my particular location I think things have stood still or both the immigrants and the natives are losers. We just have more people speaking less English and the true effect will not be seen/revealed for another 10/20 years. If the immigrants had started businesses, and a minority have, then the situation would be significantly different.

This is how I see it where I live but it may be very different in other towns/cities.

News / Poland braces for economic slowdown [30]

The large influx of Poles into Britain over the past years certainly helped both the British and Polish economies.

I can see how it helped the Polish economy but I really can't see how it helped the British economy. I am not being difficult, I just would like to understand.

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

Nonsense. I've been fighting "Poland is rich" crowd for years here, ironically they often are westerners.

Sorry I may have confused you with Tommy. It happens.

Come on yourself. What I said was Poland/Poles are not doing a good job of expressing the positives of Poland. I'm sorry if it comes across that I think every Pole in the UK is bad, because that simply isn't true. I said before I post what I see, not fantasy, nor what I see in the news. If you don't like what I see, then what can I do about other than not post it? I think a lot of people want to hear the reality rather than some dumb story of how thier friend makes big money in England, can do this, has that when in reality they are on the bottom rung of the ladder here in multi occupancy. My partner listenned to the bull before she came here. She cried everyday for six weeks as she had gone from hair stylist to shyte shoveller. I didn't know her then.

In a round about way, I'm on your side because I like Poland and who knows, one day I may live there. So chill out and lets not spoil Zetigrek's threads anymore as she asks some really good questions.

Peace.

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

Every Pole knows that. The problem is how to do it.

I hope they don't sort the Law out like they have here by piling one after the other new Laws on top of each other and then add a new bit on to correct something they left off.

I have the feeling, from experience, there is some fear of the judiciary in Poland. They are God not people.

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

Yeah, exactly.
3. Start reforming this country instead of counting only on "foreign investors" and "EU funds".
5. Improve the justic system as right now it is a total mess.

5. needs moving to number 1 as the justice system is so slow, it would take too long to change any of the other things.
3. needs a higher priority as chances are as newer EU members come on stream with lower wages, existing foriegn investors may move.

See we don't think to far apart.

TBH I rarely think about India or Pakistan although I have considered a motorcycle trip through India. No time these days. Maybe when I retire. I have had the displeasure of needing to use the toilet in an Indian factory in the East End of London once. That vision will stay with me for life. Somethings I saw, you wouldn't believe a human arse was capable of. Shudder.

Does it matter what he thinks? He obviously hates his country so much that he moved to Poland rofl.

There is no hope for you is there. Plank.

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

1. Greg you are looking for something thats not really there. Its you that is bringing up the crimes and as a matter of fact, I don't think the BBC news website has an agenda, in fact the opposite is probably true. There is more likely a deliberate attempt to dumb down news about immigrants of all nationalities. Lets say for example in Poland an English guy beats the crap out of an 80 year old woman while stealing from her home. A day later she is found dead. Whats the big news in Poland going to be? Here its not going to make the evenning news unless its a no news day. Now if it was an English guy, in England, it would possibly be a big story. Really you have it all wrong.

2. But in another thread you said Poland was rich. It doesn't matter to me if Poland is rich or poor. I doubt anyone looks at Poland on a map and thinks "thats a poor country". Its all relative. If you have a decent income in England, Poland is cheap. If you are on a low income in Poland, England is horribly expensive.

I don't understand why you think every Angol that comes on here is attacking Poland. Most are interested in Poland for various reasons. You kind of put people off.

Life / Why are Poles obsessed with shame? [19]

Poland is not going to turn around by being ashamed of being Poland.

I'm not exactly sure what it has to feel ashamed about. There are laws that need changing to make it more compatible with other EU countries, but the man on the street knows nothing about such things.

From an outsiders point of view . Polish culture is:

You forgot the intolerably loud trance music

Disco Polo

Beeping of horns at all hours

Drink driving

5 yr old kids shouting kurwa and more (I thought English kids were apalling. No. They are just beginners)

5 - 10 yr old kids out at 10pm at night

attractive women

attractive women that know how to dress

attractive women who know how to use make up

attractive women that can stop you dead in the street

attractive women who are approachable.

nice shoes

Strange men that if you say hello to them, look like they going to run away because they think you must be an undercover policeman.

Smoking marijuana in public

Thats a few more for your arsenal HH.

News / Polish families are urged to establish themselves in Norway : Taking children away? [36]

Now we are setting up an "action process" to stop present government, the Stolenberg-govenment, from continue the de-Christianising of the country, by urging Poles families and Catholics as such, to establish themselves in Norway, in masses

Are you the Benjamin Netanyahu of the catholic faith?

What a load of rubbish. As if you would gain support for that :) :)

anti-family government

It appears that some Polish families have not quite come up to the expected standard for caring for thier children in Norway. It could be considered anti-family to remove these children but Norway considers children as people in their own right with rights that must be protected. They are not possesions.

Life / How many children is a good number in Poland? [12]

You paint a bleak picture.

Most people just manage when child number 2 comes along. You have to. If you plan in micro detail you would never have kids. A lot of people these days think they have to give a child everything. Most are happy with what they get.

Maybe lowering the school age would have a positive effect. I don't hear Polish mothers complaining about their kids going to school at 5 here. Perhaps having a school day like the UK's might help where it doesn't change from 9am till 3.00pm. It must be difficult to manage your time around starting at different times of the day.

Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

Either that or you're simply a very... well, "uncool" individual in general.

Cool was in the 60's

Wow, a factory owner you :)))

Read. Past tense.

Incredibly cheap to you ? You prince, you :))))

Relative to the UK is was cheap 1800 zlt compared to a minimum of £1000 in the UK.

Fascinating. Ever heard about Gini index ? I bet you didn't, go learn and check the data.

Life on the ground is not comparable to the statistics.

Fecking racists, a black homeless guy, how dare they :))?

Did I suggest this was racist. I pointed it out because it was the only black guy I saw in Poznan at that time. He was really interesting as he spoke Polish, French and English. Shows you if things go tits up in Poland you are not far from the street.

Poles in the UK are more often victimes of terrible crimes than their preparators

You are kidding me aren't you? Just type in Polish in the BBC news web site search box and see for yourself. It should keep you busy for a while. Or maybe you should visit our local park on a Sunday when the community service boys and girls are doing their time. Lets see what the percentages are on the ground. They have even had to recruit Polish policeman round my way.

To balance this, since 2005 I have had one employee who was pushed to the ground by two 12/13 year old boys and racially abused. She was too frightened to report this to the Police as she believed the Police would do nothing. It was reported and it was resolved. My partners son was punched by another boy at school because he was Polish. It was a very humiliating experience for the other boys parents and it has not been repeated.

Personally I have had two confrontations with jealous male Poles. A couple of days after moving in with my partner I had two dopes waiting outside my factory to tell me that she is Polish and it would be advisable for me to move on. They weren't that polite of course. Another cretin physically attacked me outside my house over the same thing. All water off a ducks back to me.

pink person

Please define "Pink Person". I'm not sure I understand this.

1. They commit crimes, don't shave their legs bla bla...

What I said is Poles/Poland are not doing very well at getting the good points over. It is not often you hear a Pole expunging the glories of Poland in the UK. Quite often you will hear this and that is better in the UK. Reported crime that involves the Polish community only goes to re-enforce a perception that Poles are bad in general which of course is not true.

2. They are damn poor in Poland, you expected more

I did expect more but not in the context you are thinking. I didn't get that over very well because there are so many tangents I could go off on with this conversation. I touched on this elsewhere. I'm not sure where you are in Poland but I imagine (but do not know) that each city is fairly similar with its building stock. So in Poznan you have these huge, beautiful buildings, that are sadly in a terrible state of repair. Some covered with nets to stop masonry falling on peoples heads. Its tragic to see this kind of Heritage neglect. Quite a few apartments that I visited in buildings in a better state of repair on the exterior looked untouched on the inside since the 50's. Then you walk a 100m down the road and there is a modern atrocity. Looks great now but in 20 years it will look dated. Happened here in the 60's and early 70's. Just behind the Sheraton in Poznan is a perfect example of what can be done with old buildings. In 2010 when I visited they had just started restoring it. By mid 2011 it was looking good. I would imagine its finished now and will be something people can admire for a long time to come.

A lot of people are poor in Poland. You know that.

Where is the racism Greg? I know you want there to be, but there isn't any is there.

I was not attacking you, only gave you a practical advice

You were being patronising believing yourself to be superior when in fact you had lost. It's a very feminine trait.

wow lmao, and now tell us what your partner's (i dont know why you refer to your girl friend like that - strange)

This how one refers to ones girlfriend if your not young and not married.

crazy family has to do with Poland or polish culture? xD

Possibly because they are Polish and live in Poland.

Do you have much of an idea of how life is like for the 'have nots' in Poland?

No he doesn't and you can see why he failed in England.
