UK, Ireland / 'Drajwować karę' in the UK? [19]

Due to poor command of English

My understanding is that they talk/talked like this amongst them then why they can't simply speak Polish?Makes no sense to me.

UK, Ireland / 'Drajwować karę' in the UK? [19]

Someone of the old Polonia of my great grandparents generation might have said: Ona zostawiła karę w gieradzi.
The use of informal hybrid speech differed amongst indivdual speakers: radical Polglishers would actually say: hauza, stryta, bejzment, flor (podłoga), jarda (yard), bojsy as in 'Bojsy się fajtują na sajdłoku.'

I don't understand,why would anybody talk like this?"kare w gieradzi"?Now,that's beyond ridiculous.

strytkara - streetcar (tram)
buczernia - butcher's
gieradzia - garage
giejta - gate
druksztor - drugstore
śtepsy - steps plus pelnty of verbs:
pejntować, klinować (clean), drajwować, gredżuejtować (graduate),

BIZARRE!gieradzia?Excuse me,but what are you trying to say?

Law / Clocking cars and importation to Poland [47]

Seems the Government in Poland are intent on screwing the people there every which way.

This is true.

Poland as an EU state charges duty on something that is brought in from another EU state

This is not true.

Also the fact that they are charge for an inspection knowing that the cars from other states are built to the same specification.

What specification has to do with inspection?I don't really see where you coming from.Even in the US which is one country when I am moving from lets say Maryland to Delaware I have to get my car inspected in Delaware even though my car was already inspected and road legal in Maryland.

I can understand your frustration and I suppose I am in for a lot of that when I move there in December.. to be honest just after reading your post I am pretty pissed off already.

He just makes it sound like it's a big problem but in reality it is not that bad.

Law / Clocking cars and importation to Poland [47]

There is no straight answer to your question. If you have time and/or money to look for a good deal in NL it may be worth it.I have a brother and a friend working in NL and they bring some cars from time to time but they say it takes time to find something worth the troubles as nobody there gives away perfectly good cars for little money. The thing is that they have lorries and they are going to PL anyway so they don't have to calculate cost of gas into their expenses.

Law / Clocking cars and importation to Poland [47]

Remember the cars from Katrina?Late model accidental junks?

What about them?I am sure some were imported to Poland but how many?A 100?1000?Is a disaster like Katrina happening every year? And who buys American cars in Poland? How many of them here? You talking about some marginal number dude.

Law / Clocking cars and importation to Poland [47]

,usually old cheap cars from there are usually junked.exported to Poland fixed and sold.

What a nonsense.Old cars in Poland cost less than transporting them here would cost not to mention fixing. When have you been to Poland lately? Was it 20 years ago?My buddy just bought 97 VW Polo for 700 PLN ($250) and you talking about hauling old junk across the ocean for at least $1000?This car was neglected but runs and drives. These days many people in Poland sell cars just because they are bored of them not because there is something wrong with these cars.My mother wants to sell her 98 Ibiza TDI (which I advise her against it) because she just wants a new car, just like that.Bought as 1 year old now 205k on odometer and it didn't cross anybody's mind here to try to tamper the odometer. You are out of touch with reality dude.As for importing from US it is worth to bother only with cars you can bring as mienie przesiedlencze or very expensive cars which are rare here like Corvette or something.

Life / Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland [359]

I can speak only for US and everything you said applies there too.First thing, when you are going to car mechanic it is much better (cost wise) for you to know what is wrong with your car or you will end up paying a small fortune.Example:was quoted $360 (parts included) for brakes work at the garage, told them no thanks, went to backyard mechanic got it done for $115 (inc.oil change). Second, NEVER EVER let them buy parts.Ask them what they need then go to Autozone or AdvanceAutoParts and buy parts there, you will save at least 50% and I mean at least.Third, always walk a car around when picking it up from garage. They will not tell you that they broke something until you point it out to them. One time they broke windshield in my Mercedes when replacing wipers motor and tried to return me the car like that and the other time they broke rear turn signal and put it back together with Scotch tape.Forth, always ask for receipts, including parts receipts (if you let them buy them for you ofc.)As for all season tires, they are not worth **** when it snows.

Law / how does the legal system work in poland? [25]

United States - Rodney King. Dude gets badly beaten by cops

And how much do you think would Mr.King get if the whole thing wasn't recorded and shown on TV nationwide?I am not in any case saying that justice system in Poland isn't crooked because it is but in so called western countries including UK it is not that great either.

One great example of how UK justice system works is Simon Walsh case: guardian.co.uk/p/39kgd/tw

Law / how does the legal system work in poland? [25]

what? Some stranger, on the parking lot, hands you a cell phone and $20 and asks you to return it?

Can't you read lady?I found a cell phone,ok,it rang,I answered, told the owner where I can meet him, handed it over to him while sitting in my car and he handed me $20 for my troubles.Makes any sense to you?

Wait, and you were tailgating a cop?

The point is that I was not,he was just saying I was.

Law / how does the legal system work in poland? [25]

Because assuming these Police officers went that extra mile to stick one up your poop chute without a good reason in US you do a fairly simple thing:

I was pulled over and quickly blocked by 3 interceptors because some "good citizen" reported suspicious activity when I was returning lost cell phone for which the owner handed me $20 on a parking lot.

b) sue

Thanks but no thanks. This is not a perfect world mister.I once went to a court to fight a ticket for tailgating a cop,my word against cop's word and guess what mister, for some reason the judge believed the word of the man in uniform. In addition to ticket I had to pay court fees.

Law / how does the legal system work in poland? [25]

In US it is called 'dropping a dime'.

Or "whistleblowing" and it's strongly encouraged by authorities.

mentality hammered into Polish brains by 40 years of communism/socialism.

It must be that Americans are communists.Come on over to Ocean City MD mister and I will make OCPD search your car with just one phone call.It has happened to me so I know how it works.

USA, Canada / Is there anyone in the US who has a Maluch that is legal to be driven? [13]

I would like to meet and know someone who has a Maluch Legally registered in US or if there is any club of the sort as I have

Must be a lot of fun.I would love to have one in the states as you can be racing (or at least feel like you are racing) and not breaking any speed limits at the same time.

Language / Have you ever heard 'destynacja'? [19]

When used, "destynacja" reveals someone who is educated,

Maybe I am old school but to me it reveals someone who is quasi educated.

News / 70% of Poles like Komorowski. Do you? [120]

Poland's team seriously impressed their EU colleagues in accession negotiations.

Yeah, yah, yeah.Guess what mister, there are still some Poles who are not impressed with a pat on the back from a "westerner" so save this talk for POles (you know those young and "educated").

UK, Ireland / Poles 'failing to integrate in the UK'? [58]

Especially as the article touches on subject of the language evolving over the last 60 years, much of Polonia who left PL in the 50,60,70,80's are in a time warp, when faced with the new wave of Polish diaspora hungry for money and uninterested in nostalgia.

This is true.Same in the US.These people have nothing to do with today's Poland and completly don't understand young immigrants/expats from Poland.I mean, seriously 78 y/o dude who left Poland in say 1946 or whatever is to me as exotic as lets say Eskimo. Some of them are from what used to be Poland but since 1945 is ukraine or Belarus and have memories of Poland I never even knew. There is very little I can talk about with these people.

Life / I met Polish girl, she is 15. Moving to Poland to start new life - is it a safe place? [30]

I meant what kind of a guy over 20 would go for a 15 girl.

I had few 15 y/o girlfriends when I was over 20.One was even 14 and her father was a pig so I had to wait (not that it was a problem as had another gf at the same time) for her to turn 15 to have sex with her (You know better safe than sorry) even though she was nagging me to have sex.Visited all of them at home and no parent had ever any objections.Must be a cultural difference,me thinks.

I just took it that the op was a lot older than 15.

What does it matter? This is not America here.If a 15y/o fancy 99y/o oldtimer it is not yours or mine or anybody else's bussines.

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

They leave and then go back to only realise why they left in the first place......money, and off they go again.

Say "Some" and I will agree.I didn't leave because i can (or maybe even not) make few more dollars in America and I know many people who left Poland for the same reason I did, because the see how rotten this system is and they refuse to be part of it.This few more dollars is really not worth being far away from family and the place I grew up in.It is not.

And that was the reason to give the whole industry away to foraigners?Again, where is Polish Samsung,Hyudai or LG?
Are you PO member? How much do they pay you for posting this crap?(I know for sure that they pay people for posting crap like this).

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

3.3 million Poles have left Poland in the past 10 years to work abroad,

And people are still leaving.

would say that less than 5% leave Poland with the intention of emmigrating for good.

True, but then they realize that life can be different and they no more have any reason to go back to this opressive and crooked country ran by the same regime for the last 23 years.

News / Poland's Economy Is Booming! The EU's Success Story? [711]

I guess you would have to have lived through the changes to understand.

I have lived thru the changes and I saw destruction of Polish industry with my own eyes.

I suppose I used the word "booming" as that is the word the press tend to use.

Official propaganda.Learn some Polish and read comments under these "succes" stories on Polish sites you will learn what is general sentiment in this country.

have had a struggle to buy Polish while I am here. It costs a fair bit more usually, but I have wherever possible bought Polish shoes and Polish kitchen electricals. Shop staff will remember me as I always ask. Occasionally I have to buy non Polish as in the item mentioned on my consumer rights thread.

I wish you all the best with whatever you plan to do in this country but if you asked me for advice I would say "Go back to UK,it can not be worse than Poland".This Poland is destined to collapse and the sooner it happen the better.
