News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

I think some of you are losing the plot and have never visited a 3rd world country either.
Below is a site where you will learn the exact definition.

I don't need a definition, as exact as it may be. I have visited a 3rd world country, have seen what's it's like with my own eyes, have spoken to the locals personally and let me tell you Poland is not a 3rd world country. Those who say it is are lucky to not know what they are talking about.

Work / Polish translation Masters in Europe [27]

They include literacy requirements that 5 year olds should: readily use written language in their play and learning.

It would be good if they also knew Latin declensions, French conjugation, econometrics and quantum physics. LOL

I've also taught Polish kids aged five: they can not read at all.

Maybe I couldn't read when I was five, but today I read, speak & write in 3 languages.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

"In Poland differences in salary levels between executives and workers are similiar to what they are in Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, India, Egypt, and Panama. In the EU only Romania has worse disparity in income levels and salary, etc. according to latest Hay Group report..."

this doesn't mean we are a third world country and definitely does not reply to the question if you were to compare PL and Ethiopia, would you find it similar. If you would, than I reckon that this is because you've never been to a 3rd world country.

UK, Ireland / Poles living in the UK returning home or not? [63]

"We do not see them here," says Prof Krystyna Iglicka, of the Centre for International Affairs in Warsaw

I get the impression that many Poles have been coming back home lately. I see them a lot in my work, in my home town.

A couple of years ago you only heard stories about ppl leaving and now you hear more and more about ppl coming back.

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

Take four nails and crucify me !

I would if I could.
Your thread sounds like a statement how Polish education and qualifications are worth nothing at all, since even PL lawyers are menial cleaners. If you read through the posts, you will see that everybody else understood it the way I did.

Maybe next time you should be more clear in your threads/posts in order to not be misunderstood.

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

It seems Poles tend to be proud of their education,
but what worth have their qualifications, when.............
There is not enough jobs for people educated in the same fields as one another.
Employment is bought with bribes.
When there is a closed-shop. ( employment given to family/friends, regardless of qualifications ).
The qualifications are not recognized abroad.

there isn't even one single question mark in your thread, how are you asking a question then?

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

By the way, I am not anti-Polish, quite the opposite.

maybe you are not, but for me your thread is one of the most false ones that I've ever seen asked on here. Sorry...

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

I,m not talking about your three acquaintances and two friends.

neither am I. I am Polish myself and know a little bit more Polish people than 3 acquaintances and two friends.

Besides, go and see for yourself how some of them live and if in fact what they are telling you is true.

oh I have gone and seen for myself. I lived in Brussels for over 5 years and had enough time and occasions to go visit them in London, Rotterdam and Brussels. They do not work as cleaners, I am sorry to disappoint you. Some of them even run their own business. Imagine that Georgie - a Pole running his own business abroad, unheard of!

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

Its about the many Polish acquaintances I write.

And I write about my Polish acquaintances & friends, who live and work abroad. And believe me, they are doing just fine with their Polish qualifications, working for multinationals, EU institutions, small and medium business. But thanks for your concern anyway, Georgie.

Georgie give us a break, please.

Thats why graduates in law etc. are menial cleaners elsewhere in the EU.

hahahahahahahahahahaha. It's a good one Georgie. You must have confused nationalities, but that's OK, nobody's perfect.
You really discredited yourself far beyond my expectations.

Life / Do expats living in Poland speak Polish? [233]

I advise any one thinking of moving to Poland to live/work to try learning a little before you arrive.

It's a good idea for any one who's going to settle abroad. Speaking the language or at least knowing some basics makes things much easier.

And self-study for a language is very boring for me.

same here, I just don't have enough patience!

Also Poles have really appreciate foreigners who try to speak their language.

Totally agree. I appreciate foreigners who make an effort to learn my language. It always puts a smile on my face to hear Polish spoken with a foreign accent :)

So, thumbs up for all you foreign people speaking Polish!!! Tak trzymać!!!

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

Polish qualifications are good/very good, and are starting to be recognozed outside of Poland. In the (multinational) company I work for, we go regularly on Polish campuses to hire Polish graduates not only for our Polish operations but also for London , Paris, New York...

Thanks bullfrog. I worked for a big multinational in Brussels and nobody there questioned my Polish qualifications. It's the same for my PL friends working in London. But apparently, Georgie knows better.

Patriotic, enough said.

Of course I am, thank you for the compliment. It doesn't change the fact that what you've said it total rubbish my dear, little Georgie.

Life / Horribly cold in Krakow at the moment , how do you cope with such temperatures ? [124]

This winter is particularly freezing in Krakow and i was just curious to know how most people can cope with these temperatures and if life goes on just as normal in terms of work, everyday life, etc

indeed, it's freezing cold, but life does go on. The buses, trains and trams are running, people still go or drive to church, go shopping, see their family etc. As long as you have proper clothing it's bearable. Plus today it's sunny - it's a shame to stay in all day!

Love / Polish guys who have never had girlfriends [71]

And since when does the catholic church keep Polish teens from screwing?

ever since it exists my dear.

Perhaps not all teens will listen to this but I am convinced that many do.

I am convinced as well.

As per Floripa's brilliant thread, the worst drunkard in the history of the UK is PL. ;)

Great, at least we are #1 at something.

This is an outrage! Not only do you come over here and eat all our swans, pinch all the jobs etc now you are breaking our records too.

as far as drinking is concerned, we are simply unbeatable! :)

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

I simply don't want to live in a uniform world where every country looks, tastes and sounds the same.

then I'm sure you are neither British nor American. Sometimes I get the impression that this is the world they would love!

I've come across cases where Native speakers were unable to follow Englang conversations between second language speakers, because the references and 'mistakes' were understood by the L2 speakers but not by the L1 speaker.

so true, I've seen it in my work as well.

Life / Reasons for moving to Poland [291]

Love is the worst reason.

Love is a very good reason.
I moved to Belgium for love, and although today I'm not with my boyfriend anymore, I have no regrets!
