Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

the ex-politicians turn "consultants"

These are not consultants, but lobbyists. Worse than cockroaches.

News / "It's too late for Germany" (but not for Poland) [1798]

I havent heard people use polish slurs or polish jokes in like 2 decades almost,

Me neither.

That Polish jokes were invented by Hollywood Jews or German Nazis in the USA is a myth. In reality, they are simply a variation of the same jokes that already existed for other ethnicities. This horse shows up on a regular basis and has been flogged to death repeatedly.

Gotta go now. Time for the pub. :)

because he is Polish you feel justified in discriminating against him due to his ethnicit

Nonsense. What would YOU say if a German publicist would release a paper saying that these jokes do exist for almost every nationality and that they were not specifically invented for Poles? Sounds much more plausible, doesn't it?

consulting. Easy jobs

Easy job? LOL! Work for one of the top 10 consulting firms and tell me if you got away with under 10 to 12 hours a day and living in a hotel for most of the week. Consulting is one of the hardest and most stressful jobs out there, which is the reason why only younger folk (25 to 40) are able to survive in that field.

bad stereotypes and jokes about Poles are mean and totally wrong, but the stereotypes about Germans are soo funny and so totally right

That's our British, Polish and PolAm "nationalists" for you ... :)

wikipedia

From the same source:
"Some of the early 20th century Polish jokes might have been told originally before World War II in disputed border-regions such as Silesia, suggesting that Polish jokes did not originate in Nazi Germany, but rather much earlier as an outgrowth of regional jokes rooted in historical social class differences."

ethnic slurs disseminated by German warlords and National Socialist propaganda

Says Tomasz Szarota, a Polish publicist.

the whole Western world stereotypes Germans

Nah, it's mostly the Daily Fail in their daily report about WW2. You should try a different news outlet sometime... :)

And lets remember that American Germans were the ones who invented so called "polish jokes"

That BS again. Prove it with a source that is not a right-wing PolAm one.

Nearly ALL of Ms. Merkel's actions to date ... "rectify" her nation's often unspeakable recent past.

Such as? The only action that comes close to what you are implying was to allow the somewhat unchecked immigration of a large number of refugees and economic migrants. And even there you could argue that Merkel only wanted to help out Greece and Italy who were simply overrun by migrants at that time. The people were already on European soil, and it's actually Turkey and those that started the mess in the Middle East who are really to blame for the current situation in Europe.

Germany can't do it right, can't it.

That's the curse powerful countries have to live with, I'm afraid. The Americans get blamed all the time because of their military and economic power.

News / German legal discrimination against Polish speakers [209]

No, they signed new treaties for the hell of it.

You remember who pushed for the accession of most of the former COMECON countries, do you? Poodle Blair of the United Kingdom. He was also the first one who allowed cheap workers from eastern Europe to flood the British labor market. Poland profited a lot from this move. Now the Brits have changed their mind and proclaim that - amongst other things - immigration is bad and that all the Europeans (and other foreigners) in the country take away British jobs. Hence BREXIT.

Biggest mistake that the EU ever made was to let too many poor countries in too quickly. That's what ultimately destabilized the union. That and the introduction of the Euro.

I say, f them and their money, Poland just should pay into EU nothing as a response

The strange thing is that the anti EU crowd never comes up with a proper alternative that could work. What's your proposition?

the eurozone especially, was constructed that suits Germany and their economical needs and allowed them such an expansion in Europe

The Euro was mostly a French invention. The Germans vehemently opposed the new currency. Google it.

political oppression against its lesser members

Who forced these "lesser members" to join the EU? They all knew what they signed up for.

look at what you have done to southern Europe....

Cooking the books, uncontrolled deficit spending, corruption -- Greece and Italy have only themselves to blame IMO.

successful Brexit

You have to remember though what the main reason behind the pro BREXIT vote was: the (supposedly) uncontrolled immigration of non-EU citizens from the Continent. Which was of course propaganda, because the U.K. had never been part of the Schengen Area in the first place and had full control of her borders already. The immigration issue will continue to exist after BREXIT simply because of your Commonwealth citizens.

It will probably depend on how well the Brits fare after BREXIT. If their economy won't take a hit as predicted, they will most likely be seen as an example and a reason for other EU members to leave. I would see that as a positive development. The EU is too big right now.

I can't see why people don't see the demise of The EU as imminent.

I don't believe that the EU as a trading block is in any imminent danger. What will possibly go one day is the Schengen area, as BB correctly stated, and maybe even the Euro. The long term goal of a political union will probably have to be given up.

Here is where nationalism becomes self destructive long term, just not smart.

Good point. Very true.

Are you seriously trying to compare the crimes

No, but it's always good to remember your own history before throwing stones in a glasshouse. I know quite a few folks back home who haven't forgotten Gallipoli either. Just saying.

There are 82 million Germans out there and you are telling us that none of them should be trusted? Paranoid much?

the heinous crimes committed by Germans should not be forgotten

No, they shouldn't, but that's a very slippery slope you're going down, my friend. Deliberately starving 4 million Bengalis to death during WW2, hunting the Aboriginals on Tasmania to extinction, or running the Boer concentration camps aren't particularly civilized either. But it's always easier to point the finger at others, right?

@Dirk

I hate all Germans because ... Adolf. I hate all Brits because ... British Empire. I hate all Americans because ... Trump. That's the stupid simplistic world view I was talking about. Neanderthals were more sophisticated.

Maybe you are hanging out with the wrong crowd? Just because one right wing bozo hates Merkel doesn't mean that all Brits dislike each and every German. Same goes for the Poms. Just because some Aussies can't stand your guts doesn't mean that the whole country hates the U.K.. 99% of all people get along just fine. It's always the same group of simpletons that live in the past and cultivate the old animosities. Eff them.
