Classifieds / Help finding forestry workers from Poland in UK [5]

Right now it may not be easy. Due to the recent change in the law, skilled people in that field are incredibly busy at the moment. A friend needed/wanted quite a few trees felling on some land he has and he had to wait ages and was shocked at the price.

Polonia / Half-Polish Terrorist attack on the Champs-Elysses [55]

A Polish man in his 50's was caught attempting to take 79 guns into the U

The minimum sentence for that is quite stiff - I wonder how he thought he could get away with it.

Study / International business master degree - which Poland's university should I study? [5]

university of warsaw or sgh warsaw school of economics

Both are good, both have decent student life. SGH certainly has more contacts with Polish companies which would be useful if you decide to stay on after your studies, however long-term UW could be a better bet. Why not have a look at fora for current and former students of both. There you will get a feel of what people who have studied at both institutions are saying about the current situation.

Good luck, and I hope you have a great time in Poland.

Work / About Work permit for Student Visa in Poland [28]

If I try can I get any internships in Poland while studying

They do exist, however they're quite competitive. Nevertheless, Poland is a great place to study and even settle afterwards if you find you like it. Good luck, and hopefully you will enjoy Poland.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

Just a point, but you should have checked this properly.

I don't think that truth always matters to some of the posters. Dirk suggested that people who lived in the PRL might have a more negative impression of Adam Michnik than someone who moved to Poland afterwards. The thing is, almost everyone who faithfully and regularly buys his publications lived in Poland during the PRL years...

the Order of the White Eagle

They don't give that out lightly - it's for the most distinguished Poles.

Law / LOOKING FOR HELP AND INFORMATION TO OPEN INDIAN RESTAURANT IN POLAND..... [80]

Iam looking for job poland

Have a look on google for the Indian community in Poland. There are a couple of fora, and someone there might know about opportunities as an Indian chef. Worth mentioning that the number of Indian restaurants is starting to grow, so it's possibly a good time.

News / Officials in Poland are hailing an upcoming visit by Donald Trump [720]

The government in uk is finished as any force and basically inflation and low currency problems are just starting

Absolutely. It does look like there'll be a new government sometime this year. I don't hold out much hope that they'll do anything except reverse austerity, however right now almost any change is a positive.

Law / Obtaining citizenship while working in Poland [3]

Can I expect any benefits if my grandmother and grandfather were Polish citizens??

Under certain very restrictive circumstances - basically if they never revoked (or had revoked on their behalf) their Polish citizenship. Otherwise you'll have to go down the same route as the rest of us, several years' residence, a Polish language test and a lot of waiting.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

You call him the greatest polish citizen alive

He's certainly among them.

but of course he'll never dare to write about sexual abuse taking place in yeshivas or the organ trafficking money laundering rabbis)

I seriously doubt that either of these things is occurring in Poland.

I actually don't mind wyborcza all that much as they have some decent articles that are fairly objective for a more left leaning paper.

It's actually more a centrist paper, part of that very longstanding tradition in Poland, and a very popular national newspaper.

News / Warsaw mayor torn between legaity and marital solidarity [3]

unconstitutional but also illegal.

So looks like she'll be getting a refund for the 'fine' then (though hopefully she won't have paid a penny), since the PiS kangaroo court that tried to summon her has no legal basis.

There may well even be the basis for a claim against whoever illegally summoned her.

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

That's actually quite common among loanwords into Polish; to have a Hamburg/Danzig connection. There are several words that have come from English and Scots to Polish via that route.

Study / Young Nigerian Sets Record in Polish University [75]

encourage as many educational successes as possible to come here,

Absolutely - this can only be a good thing, as can the income that universities receive from overseas students as well as the jobs provided at the universities. Cardinal Wyszyński University in Warsaw has an increasing number, mostly from Turkey, which has been a great success and has provided jobs for lecturers and admin staff, plus letting opportunities etc, and provides the students with experience of Poland where they may choose to settle or if they don't, abiding happy memories of their youth here. All good!

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

Yes, it does very indirectly derive from that word via the German makler. Many words in Poland that refer to banking and finance have their origins in the more urban Western Europe.

News / Mysterious death of Magdalena Żuk on holiday in Egypt [144]

Some people will invent the most terrible things, just to protect a Polish company or person

Unfortunately yes. This case has an eery parallel with the one a few years ago when the teenage girl from Poland got knocked up while on holiday and her mother swore blind that it must have been from sperm floating in the swimming pool.

And ultimately, there's a young woman dead after becoming mentally disturbed while on holiday. Even though the Polish travel agency she booked with were aware that there was a serious problem, there are people who will cook up the most unbelievable tales in order to blame someone, anyone, else.

Study / Young Nigerian Sets Record in Polish University [75]

If it doesn't matter then did your cohort even start this thread in the first place?

Looks like you misunderstood again.

I never said the Nigerian student made a cry for help

So why mention somebody else's 'cry for help' ?

you are drooling over

There you go again...

And great that the guy came top of the class. Let's hope plenty more people come to study in Poland. He did well to come top.

Classifieds / FOR SALE lovely apartment on Grzegórzecka, 53m², 5min from the center, 5min from the shore of Wisła River [20]

they jam ocer time

I'll take that over PVC any time. Here, people are just allowed to install them, regardless of whether the building looks good or bad with them There are some beautiful Eighteenth Century buildings in Poznan where people shoved white PVC windows and they look really bad, like a 90 year old lady with silicone tits.

They seem the norm here now, that and plastic roofs.

In a new building like the one with the OP's flat it isn't a tragedy, but still very mucg the second-class option.
