News / The EU's 1 Trillion Dollar Rescue Package [144]

from the op's article:

The European Union and the International Monetary Fund agreed to create a nearly $1 trillion rescue fund to support European nations burdened by heavy debt. Analysts caution that countries like Greece will still need to make painful spending cuts in the coming years and that the debt problems won't disappear any time soon.

Posters will notice that Serbia is not part of the text or topic.

All off topic posts, as you very well know, will be removed.

Love / My recent experience with a Polish girl. [231]

I find it to be a disgusting and offensive thing to do

for some it might be a safety net. it would be less offensive if you thought about their reasons and considered how many friends you once had, but no longer speak to.

Love / My recent experience with a Polish girl. [231]

They both told me that they like to stop speaking to people at the end of a relationshp

that's because they consider it 'moving on'

it also helps a simple person to understand that the relationship is over.

Love / My recent experience with a Polish girl. [231]

If someone ignores someone, not even showing civil words, that is a disgusting thing to do

don't be an idiot. there are many reasons someone can be ignored. what if the other person has sight, hearing, speech problems, doesn't speak the language or is extremely shy etc, then they might seem to be ignoring you, when in fact they are not.

polish women are like women everywhere, if one ignores you then maybe you caught them on a bad day. if two ignore you it's time to look in the mirror.

Genealogy / Tschiediel, Jalowieski, Jansz-Stengert, Biedniakov-Bielakiewicz [4]

have you checked the 'Genealogy resources' on this site.

a clever trick with names is to search for them at ellis island records. it will answer you with alternative spellings, which can be useful. some other sites do the same... as does your google search box.

be careful when you enter a polish name at a polish website. some won't recognize l, n, s for ł, ń, ś etc.

Love / My recent experience with a Polish girl. [231]

haha, if i ask how to combat ignorance, you just assume it means I am talking about a past girlfriend, I'm not. I wasn't dumped, and I am not a stalker. Where is your evidence of this? I'm merely asking how to combat ignorance. This is separate to this thread, and is a mistake to link what I had said to this old thread. Please use your brains!!

don't tell porkies.

Now she goes days ignoring me, right after saying she wants me to be her friend. So hard to understand her her. Whats the best way forward, how to get her to talk again? Polish girls seem really changeable and have an incredible ability to ignore you. Seems cold. Is it their mentality or what?

if someone chooses to ignore u it is their choice. if u keep pursuing the matter that makes u a pest. move on.

Genealogy / Travel and migration in late 19th - early 20th centuries [9]

How would anyone know your grandfather's personal story?

a bit unfair, 1jola. but true none the less.

mikek420, search around google for polish social history of the period. then someone here might be able to expand on certain aspects.

News / ANTI-POLONISM IN EUROPE [39]

In Germany, there tends to be the perception that Poles are inferior.

I would argue that in what was the old east germany there seems to be a common bond.

it's certainly true of east berlin. i've never noiced any problems there at least.

History / Thinking of changing Wikipedia's Holocaust article to include genocide of Poles. [78]

Any caveats? Suggestions?

your title doesn't take into account other european jews.

"the term generally used to describe the genocide of approximately six million European Jews (predominantly Polish) during World War II, a programme of systematic state-sponsored extermination by Nazi Germany.

include the bold text and you might have a slim chance

Real Estate / Rights To Partners Flat In Poland - Cohabiting Agreement [21]

As a national to Poland she has rights to purchase with a small / no deposit

there is some sort of first time buyer agreement. i know nothing about it though.

if you trust her under these circumstances many would call you a fool.

get yourself over to Poland and get your name on the documents. And don't let her move a family member into the place.

the above posts show real concerns.

Language / Is math in Polish different than in English? [59]

The only difference is the use of comma to mark the decimal units position

How can you say that when, for example, the two posts above yours mention the division symbol.

Maths is not a universal language... as frd points out:

some scientists have their own ways of doing things and in Poland they can decrease your marks in your tests if you use idiocrasies and semantics of their rivals.

The whole reason we are discussing this is:

I didn't realise that these symbols would be different so had quite a struggle in our first lesson!

For someone proficient in maths the differences are not a problem. For learners, small differences draw things to a fullstop.

Language / Is math in Polish different than in English? [59]

If anybody can provide any further information on mathematical symbols it would be really helpful e.g.

the basics: + x - :

maths problems for kids (at least) are set out differently.

they also waste time on pointless working out.

you really need to find a Polish/Maths website to see the differences.

Please, give us an example question. Then someone can show you the Polish way to set it out and answer it.

UK, Ireland / Polish living in UK wants to divorce Polish husband [13]

I/we don't know the law either here or in Poland so are trying to find the best way to go about it.

Why can't your girlfriend take a flight back to Poland and sort the matter out with her ex.

She can also visit a lawyer while she's here.

Or is he not in Poland

I suppose you've already checked his movements on Facebook, naszaklasa, etc.

History / To Understand Poland 39-89 (L.U.C - TRIBUTE TO STEFAN STARZYŃSKI) [17]

Does this band specialize in "historical" songs?

Sabaton are a grammis-nominated power metal band from Falun, Sweden formed in 1999. The band's main lyrical theme is that of historical wars. This can be heard on the albums Primo Victoria and Attero Dominatus where all of the songs, except the final tracks, take inspiration from a historical battle or war, such as the song "Counterstrike", which refers to the Six-Day War.

To Understand Poland 39-89 (L.U.C - TRIBUTE TO STEFAN STARZYŃSKI)

A mixture of good and bad images and a terrible mix of music.
