History / Why HMG (Her Majesty's Government) abandoned Poland to the Soviets [30]

Sadly, I never had the opportunity to speak to my babcia, as she having died quite a few years before my birth, a broken and traumatised woman who never recovered from the death of her husband during the Rising in 1944.

Dan -I always bow to someone who is polite, so I apologise for the insult.

That you didn't know your grandmother is a pity - but you see, I guessed from your posts that you have an axe to grind. And for the last 30 years I have been often called out after a few vodkas by some very nice Polish gentleman for "Churchill's indifference" and British "lack of due diligence" or criminality, call it what you will.

My protests that we did what was possible and some very hard decisions had to be made (albeit some harsh and unnecessary deportations) to prioritise, were always scoffed at.

But neither I or said gentlemen had to make those decisions.

The Poles and the British had and have an excellent relationship ( whatever Cameron rants on about in the Daily Mail), and I don't know what those transcripts say - but the reality of the time was that Britain was screwed by war too, having to pay (as you would know) huge war bond debts to that place across the sea..... as well as funding the new social charter at home for the returning servicemen, plus the "loss" of empire.

Add rationing, austerity, loss of markets, personal and national bereavement etc etc - and all the time helping to deal with the priorities - vast populations displaced, millions starving or dying of dysentery in the camps, de-nazification of a brainwashed nation - when you take all that responsibility into account I reckon the fact that we took large quotas of Polish refugees, and fought our corner against the appeasement of Roosevelt and his mob, while facing down the Soviets, was a credit to Britain at that time.

So, yes I do take umbrage at pointless attacks on the greatest Briton to have lived in modern times.

You invite our views Ozi Dan?

Do you really want to know?

I'll tell you.

You need to go back to school and learn some history - and not learn brainwashing nonsense from your Polish grandmother.

Britain didn't have a pot to **** in - we honoured our word to the Poles and took the war to the Krauts - and only in the 60s did we recover somewhat.

It was Roosevelt and French cowardice that sold Poland down the river.

Nothing else.

Now I politely suggest you go and do one.

PS Mods please merge this with the 2011 thread. The convict aka Dan is on a (pointless) Churchill bashing wind-up again, because he lost the great uncle he never met at Gallipoli ;)

Like the Poles, Aussies like to make a big thing of suffering.

Life / Emigrate / Immigrate to Poland? I don't need to work. [33]

My goodness, you claim to be in Poland and are puzzled that there could be theaters. Yes, there are. Many in fact, all across Poland.

The spelling is "theatres" - Poles tend to use British English here in Europe. And I was referring to the fact that I know Poland a lot better than you do. You were being your usual patronising self so I took the opportunity to just remind you of the Polonia that you are.

And cost of land here is still a fraction of what it is in the UK.

Because any concern can come and build a ******* great big plant next to your dream plot - that's why :)

Try Rekowo-Gorne for size. A beautiful forest vista ruined when the new Zoeller plant could be on the highway to Slupsk 5 kilometres down the road. Instead the council place it in the countryside on the road to the seaside?

Only in Poland - and you want me to be positive?

"Theaters"? When was the last time you were in Poland?

I made an opinion based on observation of your mother country and you clearly haven't been here.

And the environment is not the Poles' to ruin, so it's not OK that Poland has no cast iron planning laws.

And keep the mutt out of it. :)

Life / Emigrate / Immigrate to Poland? I don't need to work. [33]

The log cabin dream in the country side is of course a dream, I know the harsh reality of such exists only in films and for the millionaire brigade, but I'd opt for something similar or like as opposed to the hustle and bustle of city life.

Then the Beskidy Noduff - but the Czech Beskidy - because the Poles have NO respect for any concept of a green belt. They think it's something you would wear to hold your trousers up.

I would advise strongly against buying a house next to a forest in Poland. People will notice your isolation and come and build a group of houses next door to keep you company. Test my theory by going with your lady to the cinema. Sit apart from anybody else. Within two minutes another couple will come and sit right next to you to "keep you company" although there is plenty of room elsewhere.

This is weird behaviour and some anthropologist/sociologist may be along to explain......

There is no peace and quiet to be found anywhere in Poland. The whole countryside has been completely ruined by indiscriminate building.

Try the Czech Republic. It has building laws and property is actually worth something - if you want solitude.

Here to help:)

News / Why is Amazon not present in Poland? [57]

We all now what the jobs are. And the quotas each worker has to fill per hour. Amazon is the new sweat shop, and no one with even a modicum of intelligence should countenance working for them.

Mind you - there's a message. Work hard at school kids - or you too could be working in a Cap Gemini call centre or for Bezos. I myself would rather eat berries and drink river water if life's choices were so bleak.

Merged: Why is there no thread on scum employment at Amazon?

I can't believe people here talk about "Do Polish women like Mexicans"? Instead of points of real import - like what we want Poland to become in the future.

I feel so desperately sorry for the poor souls who are working for this scum masquerading as a societal business. And those "employees" really should realise that they should **** such "employment" right off.

Much better to dig the vegetable patch or work the dustbins than to entertain these criminals.

youtube.com/watch?v=CXWJ4GfQ22E

These people are as accountable as Bill Cosby. Because they are American they must be untouchable.

Thanks Christ I wont be around for x amount of years to witness the **** that this world is becoming when we all feel we have to save money and buy from this mafia.

Signed,

A past customer - never to give Bezos another single cent.

News / Why is Amazon not present in Poland? [57]

it's a pain in the arse to pay for shipping from the UK when it's just mailed from down the road

I would of thought if they offer that to ze Germans and not the Poles - then there is a case to be taken against them?

How does Poland gain by this? The consumer doesn't. And neither do the 13 zl an hour workers. Jesus H.Christ. 13 zl? Does anyone on PF work for such money?

All that the scum are doing is polluting the countryside with their distribution centres - which people have to spend a fortune in petrol getting to , to work for 13 zl an hour.

You couldn't make it up. I would ban the bastards.

Answers on a postcard to Dougpol Mansions please. Rant over

News / Why is Amazon not present in Poland? [57]

Amazon is in Poland now:

No Nathan - you are simply re-directed to Amazon.com. Have you read the article? The distribution centres are here - but the goods are for export. Theoretically they are then imported again. You pay the shipping charges.

Poland will have no free shipping, which negates the point of using Amazon at all. I will not be doing so.

Life / Emigrate / Immigrate to Poland? I don't need to work. [33]

I am sticking to the topic.

The OP said he doesn't need to work.

Vis a vis he would be mad to come here IMO. Why? As above, there would be no social life akin to the life he knows through his culture and traditions. It's a working life and the people you meet through work that makes a foreign country interesting.

If he (the OP) were a writer such as Gore Vidal, who famously said (sic) of his adopted country, that Italy's problems were not his problems, (and so he had the best of both worlds), or can travel at the drop of a hat - then no problem; but if so, why would he be asking us?

Does that answer your question?

PS Not frustrated - just living with reality. And it's boringly dark here in Gdynia at 9 a.m. and the radiators are full on - in September. Maybe me and the OP can do a house swap?

Life / Emigrate / Immigrate to Poland? I don't need to work. [33]

Seriously though Noduff - why choose to live here if you don't want to work/or have to work here? As others have asked - what are you looking for?

The summers are barely 3 (three) months long and the heating bills are huge - even when you do the log fire and underfloor heating bit..............

Plus there is no community spirit to speak of, if you are used to an Anglo-Saxon understanding of the same.

People will not greet you in the street, unless you have a dog or are a fixture....

I live here because of the work, but the long dark days are a bit of a ........ to say the least.

Classifieds / Poland's removal companies that can help me move from Gdansk to Katowice? [6]

Zachary:

1. Let Google be your friend - or people on this board will be along shortly.
2. At the medical uni there are a lot of student dorms. You can grab a bed or sleep on someone's floor for a while I would imagine

3. The area is called Ligota - the so called "exclusive" part of Katowice. It's a pain in the butt to get to the centre from there, but it's green. Rents are expensive.

4. Silesians are to my mind - if it were possible to generalise about such things, more open and friendly than locals in Gdansk - I expect Gdansk people will sniff at that. Silesians are more akin to the British, that's all - beer culture.....

Life / Emigrate / Immigrate to Poland? I don't need to work. [33]

don't remember the last time I was in the Church.

The priest would be round to visit - and the locals wouldn't let you cut the grass on a Sunday - or actually do much of anything.

Unless you plan to build a high fence to fly the flag and to deny them entry - and paradoxically to lock yourself in?

It amuses me how people love to live in these gated communities with wire fencing - where it would take them 15 minutes to walk around the outside of the complex to visit their neighbours in the next wire fenced "community" 50 metres from their property - all in the interests of "security".

There are snobs - and then there are Polish snobs. At least you would be free of them in a smaller environment.

Love / Are women from Poland scared of good looking guys? [48]

Three months ago I relocated to Warsaw for a job. So far the experience has not been great as I have been getting hardly any attention from Polish girls.

You need one of these:)

in small town

As others have said OP - whatever you do - do not do this. You would shoot yourself (or somebody else) within a year - of course guns are not easy to come by, but trust me, anything is better than finding yourself alienated in a backwater Polish town.

There are three things you could do there to pass the time:

1. Go to church twice a day and thank God for your (miserable) existence.
2. Look at púrn, morning, noon, and night
3. Eventually drink yourself to death.

I would do two of these.

Law / Cost of importing a car from Germany to Poland? [9]

That doesn't apply as far as I know to classic cars.

Yes Jon - I thought this thread was worth a bump to warn all the foreigners here who were thinking of buying a second -hand car in Poland.

Please don't do it. You'll thank me for it - go and eat some sauerkraut for a couple of days instead.

The import hassle is simple when you know how - of course the trade had always kept it complex so the individual wouldn't " bother" to import - but the power of the internet has put paid to their little game, and now it's a piece of *****. Quite rightly too.

There used to be a phrase "Rip-off Britain" - but Polish car forecourt salesmen take it to a new level. There must be a market, because people clearly buy - but for the life of me I fail to see why.

Law / Cost of importing a car from Germany to Poland? [9]

Also I've heard that average price of used car in Poland is lower than in Germany,

Do please back that absurd and patently untrue claim up Monitor.

Anyway - who would buy a used car from a Pole? I say that simply because:

1. It's an industry here to patch up cars/clock them/ and polish them up on the car market forecourt - then slap silly prices on the windscreen - in the hope that old dziadek will offer 2000 zl less, for what is basically 4,000 overpriced in the first place.

Don't believe me? Just look at the list price for used cars in Germany in the amateur magazines.

2. These cars have been on Polish roads - a big no-no for me.

3. The whole family get involved and generally refuse to shift the price one zloty.

4. Poland has a much lower GDP thsan Germany - so less likely to find a car where the owner simply wants to get rid because the car is rusting in his drive. (As is oft the case in Krautland

Because of the last point I picked up a perfectly good sports Astra in Hamm for 1,100 Euros - exactly the same car (except that it waas ****** by Polish conditions) was sitting on a Myslowice forecourt for 11 thousand zlotys.

Both cars were in the range of 16 (Sixteen) years old.

11 thousand for a 16 year old Astra?

Do me a favour! Lots of laughter. Only in Poland.

Life / Polish cycle sites to report possible stolen bikes [10]

I was on the SKM from Reda tonight to Gdansk...

Saw an immaculate 2013 Cannondale SL3 MB with a gentleman - now, I'm not one to judge by appearance, but this chap didn't look like someone who would own a 3500 zl cycle.... I didn't engage him in conversation as I had a hungry labrador bothering me.........

I would go ape-shiite if I ever lost my Merida; all us cyclists know that Cannondale is a sorry shadow of it's former USA self, but I would love to cop for one of these bikes.....

If it were tea-leafed from Weherowo district, where do I announce it (as in the UK we have CTC and other sites to flag it up)?

I have pics of bike and "owner" but will not post them here as it could be defamatory.

Ta in advance

Law / Registration of right hand drive cars in Poland - possible? [82]

Can i just say again that it was no problem at all to make my English car legal in Moscow

As before - the Poles are operating a protection racket and trying to force the population to buy over priced wrecks masquerading as second hand cars. Registering cars from Britain would allow for a true market to emerge.

The car cottage industry here wouldn't allow for that. It takes over a week goddamnit to register a car from Germany. In fact the only time I bought a car from a salon here I had to wait a week before I could take my new car home, as opposed to America, where you go across the road for a short-order lunch while the dealership does the paperwork.

Polish incompetence or the bureacrats' sense of self-importance is breath-taking.

Hopefully it's coming to an end, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Law / Recovering amount paid to ZUS after leaving POLAND [9]

Simple.

Refuse to pay it.

PS And don't do any work here that takes it automatically from your salary. Demand to be employed as a consultant, or don't come here to work - that is my advice, and it doesn't cost anything :)

Work / 5000zl per month, netto - Would this be enough salary in Gliwice? [12]

Lol and then some - I take it you haven't been to South London then? Nobody will bother you in block land. Normal people live there, including a lot of professionals. They venture out to their country houses at weekends.

Don't comment on society here if you don't know what you are talking about.

Work / MY SALARY in a Poland's private school. Is 1700 PLN netto too much? [11]

To the OP

I have no idea why Polish teachers and university lecturers don't strike - the salary is criminal with a capital C - but then again, the system is set up so that too many people are teaching.

It's not an elite profession here and desperately needs reform, or sorting out, more like!

Now where is Delph and his insight when we need it :(

Law / Registering an old, classic car with No Paperwork - How? [7]

Mr Maluch - again - why would somebody want to buy that s!ite - when you can pick up the real thing via German contacts for a good price? Why buy any car used in Poland? I don't get it - either silly prices or aggravation, like the "no papers" story.
