News / Poland's budget problems = Polish funerals [27]

which is exactly what poles are doing.

Good for them. Poland seems to be in good company compared to the countries that are lurking higher up on that list..

News / Poland's elite more pro-US than society? [29]

You mean like in every conference in WWII, Roosevelt was betraying Poland. Churchill not being able to stop that?

US was never in an alliance with Poland, nothing was owed. Churchill on the other hand represented a government that was in a military alliance with Poland.

The US provides Poland with a balance to the EU. When you become dependent on a single daddy, that daddy has a tendency to screw you over..

It is time some people in Poland - PIS - accept that Poland is a part of Europe.

I guess it might have something to do with hosting a huge Polish diaspora and never having f*cked Poland over in any military alliances.

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

Sounds like you don't get around to traveling much. Poland is advanced developing economy, as opposed to most stagnant economies in the "West". I guess once you grasp that, it all makes sense.

For most foreigners, Poland is dirt cheap. Some of them just have no marketable skills and end up washing out. Most Poles already have it figured out, so housing isn't that much of a concern.

Just out of curiosity, what's your connection to Poland? Planning on moving over?

Average rent for a small apartment is well over half of your monthly wage. I pay in Ireland about a sixth of my monthly wage for a large apartment. Potatoes are a minor detail when you are already broke after rent or mortgage.

Keep in mind that most people are living rent free, or in subsidized housing. Polands home ownership rate (no mortgage) is nearly 70%.

If you're making an average Polish wage and living in one of the larger cities, you screwed up somewhere.

UK, Ireland / Are Polish people importing a new wave of ancient racism into the UK? [402]

Keep living in that fantasy world.

Considering the numbers of different races in the UK, I'd say they've got a fairly decent track record compared to the number of attacks on the handful of minorities here. You want to test this theory? Come to Wroclaw, we'll go walking around with a couple of white women and see how long it takes before someone tries to start a fight. Sorry, that's not just curiosity. Are African countries more racist, yes. Russia? Yup. Asian countries, of course. Nonetheless, there are plenty of mongoloid racists here to go around.

Thankfully, there are no riots...

UK, Ireland / The slow, whiny death of British Christianity [86]

I don't believe that at all. However, accepting a theory as fact for a question that is still open seems to counter the spirit of science...just a little bit. The big problem is when that theory comes with baggage. Take FSM, at least worship of his noodliness doesn't come with a rulebook.

Sure, if you want to leave it at that. Not knowing why it happened is a bit different than accepting a vague answer along with a stack of dogma that affects different areas of thought not even related to the initial question of "where did it all come from"?

Why not just leave a question mark there and explore it when you've got time?

When is the last time some Christians beat you up for being a fag?

Yup, you've got it all figured out. Anyway, keep following those voices in your head.

There is a great hunger in the world for the freedom that Jesus provides.

Or that whole promise of an afterlife that will be amazing compared to this terrible one. People need something to believe in I guess, that's as good a fantasy as any.

Poland was the highest earner in the upper-middle income category last year, now part of high income (over $12k/yr GNI per capita).

Human development index says about the same thing by the way. Poland beats out Argentina, Chile, Turkey, Hungary, Slovakia...

UK, Ireland / The slow, whiny death of British Christianity [86]

The secular/feminist/homosexual-type ideologies will truly miss the days when they could revel in their pretend oppression and taunt the Christians...

Gotcha, only Christians can oppose repressive religion ideology? How does Christianity on the decline = triumph of Islam? Do you realize that the there is a reason that secularists want to split religion from government? It's not your religion, it's all religion. They change.

And if anyone does take it upon themselves to attempt to impose their religious will on me, I will react. Right now it's with my mouth and my vote, who knows, maybe later with a gun.

Secularist societies FTW!

History / Norman Davies - the Brit who loves Poland and becomes one of Us [250]

Some of us like our history without the tug jobs.

What do you think about this author of history book about Poland?

Lots of whitewashing. Microcosm is great though.

Is he only an author respected in Poland or world-wide?

He is well known for people looking for English language history of Poland. But, that's kind of a small market..

Study / Polish schools and Polish educational system level in your eyes [135]

that is not true, the early selection starts in primary school I believe and children either to to highschool and later to uni, or they go to trade schools.

You need your abitur (matura more or less), but even that's not really needed anymore depending on the circumstances. The path doesn't matter anymore. The gymnasium route was relevant 30 years ago.

that is true, but during the communism getting a uni degree was only for "elites". Secondly, the was limited space at unis.

The second had more impact than the first. You actually had to want to learn in order to go to uni.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the system besides the fact that the system itself was always on a mediocre level

Not sure that I can agree with you there 100%. Maybe late in the game when they became cash strapped.

This is a Christian concert and all of those people made the decision to follow Christ.

Seems like a couple more people like the other guys...

Poland has more academic graduates than Germany, although the best German universities are better than Poland's best, but reason of that is because universities in the West are far more elitist than the Polish ones and because the Polish higher education is free and generally more open and egalitarian.

We're not talking about the best, we're talking about the average education that you receive. Graduates from German universities are in much better shape than their peers in Poland. School is also free in Germany, and pretty much anyone can decide to go the university path. In Poland, you get the feeling that people have nothing better to do than go to university for years on end. The problem is most definitely quantity over quality in Poland. Just have a word with any professors and ask them what's going on with the system. It's really a shame that such a strong university culture has been destroyed by the notion that everyone needs a degree to work.

Life / WOULD YOU MOVE BACK TO POLAND IF.... [73]

She were saying that Brits refer poles as rats and she seems to agree on that or atleast believe it...

I didn't catch that first part, but I think the point that she was making is that some Poles are extremely hypocritical concerning racism considering that they are usually considered part of the lower end of society in their host countries.

And yet you refer poles as being rats in UK.

i don't think the meaning behind that comment managed to penetrate your skull.
