hypocritical

Hypocritical but par for the course for the KOD hypocrites. 90% of the time Polish officials conferred about security issues including July's NATO summit in Warsaw. Only a few journalists brought up constituion- and tribunal-related issues

Duda easily explained the situation which was all the more understandable since the US are currently involved in a similar contorversy over Supreme Court appointments.

KOD hypocrites

POLISH REBEL LEADER GREETED IN DC
Mateusz Kijowski, a former nobody who sparked off an anti-government revolt among Poland's poltical losers, will predictably be greeted in America's liberal-leftist circles. Posing as a great human-rights champion, Kijowski's visit was arranged by Freedom House, a Washington think-tank. All the average American poltiican or official knows about Poland is what comes through via the feedback between the ethno-ideologically kindred GW and the NYT.

US media

You should have been more precise and said liberal-leftstream media which largely involves the Michnik-NYT feedback effect which then bounces back amongst CNN, the Washington Post, NBC, LA Times, Newsweek, etc. In other words, KODerast snitchery in action. Only the KOD creeps are overemphasising the alleged snub. In actuality, Obama has had private meetings only with three Asian nuclear powers as scheduled.

Since the snitchery it has evoked more European intervention -- Jagland and Timmermans are due to descend on and check up on "wayward" Poland shortly -- probably the most apt description would be: neo-Targowica.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

The US decision to send an armoured brigade comprising dozens of APCs, tanks and other gear as well as 4,500 troops to Poland means, according to the Straford analytical centre, that Washington regards Warsaw as their main ally in this part of the world. Defence chief Antoni Macierewicz told a TV interviewer that Poland is regarded as the only force able to serve as a counterweight to Russia and that this decison changes the entire geopolitcial situation.

lot of people

You mean a lot of resentful and frustrated KODerasts who will say anything about PiS and Kaczyński as long as it's bad, negative, pejorative or demeaning.

Most Poles would not want the likes of a leftist-libertine Obama ruling Catholic Poland nor quasi-tsar Putin, but Orban and Cameron are another story. They are admired because they've got the guts to stand up to the Brusssels dictatorship, do what's best for their countries and choose an opt-out when the Eurocrats start getting too pushy.

without outside interference

As a backer of the KOD/PO/Petru snitching brigade, you're certainly not one to distance yourself from outside interference. Now, in addition to your trademark Church-bashing, hetero-bashing and Pole-bashing you have added Yank-bashing to your list of favourite pastimes.

America was at war in Afghanistan and Iraq, boots on the ground are a peaceful deterrent. The neo-Soviet empire has never invaded a NATO country and the boots are an additional largely psychological safeguard.

neo-Soviet

Adam Michnik's son Antek (Antoni) has criticised GW for inadvertently supporting PiS' politcial campaign. GW has speculated that in exchange for the return of the Tupolev wreckage Kaczyński will agree to mount an anti-Western crusade thereby playing into Putin's hands. Such preposterous claims are working to PiS' advantage and turning people away from GW, Antek Michnik contends.

Russia is no threat to Poland

Very short-sighted. If Russia is a threat to Ukraine then it can become a threat to the Baltics, Georgia and even Poland. Is economic blackmail (boycotting Polish agricultural produce) not a threat? Is colluding with the 4th Reich to bypass Poland and the Baltics with the pipeline not a threat? GI boots on the ground are the only guarantee that Russia will stay out. Some way should be found to plant GI boots on Ukrainian soil as well, inclduing Donbas and maybe eventually Crimea. Long live the USA, the arsenal of decocracy and guarantor of world-wide freedom!

Genealogy / Gierz surname. My ancestors came from Przedborow, Poland. [6]

Przedborow

Check out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmina_Mikstat
To find out whether any Gierz still lives there, phone Biuro Ewidencji Ludności. They don't give out addresses but may say whether anyone by that name lives there.

from earlier so-called 'pagan

All nascent religions to a lesser or greater extent incorporate the practices and customs of their predecessors. That is nothing new. Chrsitiniaty was an imrpovement on Judaeism but also included elements of modified Graeco-Roman customs.

Genealogy / Need to find out the birth date of my Grandfather Konstanty Klimowski [5]

Klimowski

KLIMOWSKI: root-word klim (short peasant form of Klemens {Clement}); probably toponymic from localilites such as Klimów, Klimowo, Klimówka, etc. (Eng. equiv. Clemton, Clemville).

CYMAŃSKI: either from 1) Belarusian Tymofiej (Timothy) or 2) German name Siemann (from older German Sigiman = victory man).

DĘBORSKI; one of many surnames derived from dąb (oak).

Genealogy / Gierz surname. My ancestors came from Przedborow, Poland. [6]

Gierz

GIERZ: probaby derived from such first names as Gerwazy or Gerard; this short monosyllabic form was borrowed from the Germans who use forms such as Dietz from Dietrich and Stetz for Stefan.

MARKIEWICZ: patronymic from first name Marek = son of Mark or Marcusson.

more ceremonial

My own feeling is that Latinos (Mexicans, Cubans, Spaniards, etc.) try to turn everything into a big show or funfest. But shouldn't there also be a time for solemnity, dignity, meditation and taking stock of oneself? The Poles IMHO strike a balance betweent the two extremes. On Holy Saturday there were not only throngs blessing Easter food and praying at the Lord'sTomb tableaux, but also long queues of penitents waiting to go to confession. That is beautiful!

zieje nienawiścią"

Zieje, zeije...

eating eggs

Święcone (Easter breakfast) begins with sharing wedges of eggs sprinkled with salt & pepper all blessed at church on Holy Saturday.
Eggs in other form are also consumed at this festive time -- my favorite or hot stuffed eggs in shells, seasoend with salt. pepper and chopped dill. Deeeelicious!

moral/social messag

Esp. during martial law the tableaux were silent protests. The eagle or the map of Poland in a crown of barbed wire, spent tear-gas canisters and the like were hard-hitting symbols of those dark days. Some tableaux showed empty vodka bottles and pictures of aborted unborn babies as a protest agassnt human degradation. When the Jews protested against crosses outside Auschwitz, crucifixes became the dominant Lord's Tomb symbol.

well worth a look

You're in Poznań, right? Is it also the custom there for fmailies in the evening to visit the tableaux in various Old Town churches? Do the tableaux convey various moral or social messages or are they pure aesthetic creations??

wo people sharing their life together

Looks good on paper, but.... There may occasionally be exceptions but by and large the more things a married couple have in common, the better chance of success. That inlcudes nationality, language, religion, worldview, attitudes towards family (children and child rearing, family size, inlaws and extended family), type and location of home, interests, hobbies, etc. One or two of those may diverge but ideally there should be more convergence than divergence. Whaddya think?

Thats corruption

Voters voting for rthe officials of their choice is corrupiton? No, that's direct democracy. Switzerland also has direct demcoracy via the referendum route.

cannot be removed

Even if a judge is caught taking bribes, molesting young boys or embezzling court funds or goes insane or becomes paralysyed? If so, that's a pretty stupid law.

once appointed

America has true democracy because judges are elected by citizens at the polls.
As are sherrifs, bailiffs, town treasurers and many other officials. The more direct democracy and the fewer appointments, the better. Since nobody likes to be herded to the polls too often, usually electiosn are arranged to combine federal, state, country and local officials as well as referenda and millage votes (increasaed school taxes).

Not my list. I simply shared something from a PolAm newspaper which does not mean I necessarily endorse it all. If anyone destroys the EU it will be Frau Merkel, specifically the consequences or her ill-conceived invite.

he list goes on...

As does the increased volume of pencil-pushers or keyboard tappers. Dunno which version is true, but some say he has trebled the number of bureacrats. At any rate, there has been a sizable increase.

It's like everything these day is compurterised, but go to the bank, chemist's, outpatient clinic or other institution and there still is a lot of additional, non-digital paperwork. Or at the supermarket when the paper roll runs out and the cashier has to fumble with it as the queue grows increasingly impatient.

Everyrthing looks good on paper because as the Poles say: Papier jest cierpliwy.

still be communist today

Thanks to the powerful Chruch and attached-to-the-soil peasantry Poland was never more than radish communist -- red on the outside. Today's China is not communist, its leaders prepetuate that charade but ordinary Chinamen are largely consumer minded.

Keep to the topic please

public servant

I do remember Tusk's campaign promise of an "oszczędne państwo" (economical state) that would slash red tape. He left in his wake a bigger army of pencil-pushers (maybe keyboard-punchers would be the updated version?!) than any previous post-1989 government.

average Pole

Sounds like you have zeroed in on the Polish lumpenproletariat. If you had really conducted a survey most would of course prefer extra cash (who wouldn't?) but if they were truly frank, a majority would porbably put cheap beer, vodka and cigarettes above the other options you listed and to hell with the TK, constitution, KOD and terrorist threats.

Actually they wouldn't admit that to a stranger. According to TVP some 90%of Poles put family as the highest value above all else, and that also sounds good to interviewers. But if you could gain there confidence through prolonged interaction... Well, dont' take my word for it. Give it a go!
