History / Norman Davies - the Brit who loves Poland and becomes one of Us [250]

Poles are pretty big on history, Harry, Monia is right. However, for the resident Poles, please continue to show and corroborate as Harry also tries to do likewise. He may come across as a troll to you but he asks some decent questions and please don't take sources as golden. Build a case and then you are on solid ground. Don't assume correctness.

Food / Lentil pierogi & mushroom gołąbki [23]

That definitely changes things, Pol3. Well worth eating! Indian cuisine heavily relies on spices and onions and they really add a new dimension to food. Pierogi are simplistic but the concept is inspired. Lentil is a common soup in Scotland but, as the Poles do, we add a few choice spices to bring it to life :)

Ah yes, indeed :) Spices are the saviour and enhancement of many Polish dishes. The condiments that go into sour rye soup are really nice, bay leaves and pimento :)

Pierogi have a lot of potential. There is a new kasza restaurant open on the rynek here but I can't see them making much profit due to the rent costs being so high and kasza dishes being traditionally cheap.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

Blacks are generally left alone here but I could well imagine some conservative old hags turning their noses up at them. Thankfully, most are too indifferent to care but they could expect some huffing.

News / Military power (Poland #21 in the world) [97]

Poland has a very special form of defence in the mohair beret brigade :) Their bile is instantly poisonous and their axe-wielding skills are a sight to behold. When they charge at you, you had better run like hell :)

Food / Lentil pierogi & mushroom gołąbki [23]

I've tried mushroom gołąbki before. It goes down very well :) Lentil pierogi? A little weak I would have thought as a main ingredient but each to their own.

UK, Ireland / Poles in the UK not a problem as far as i can tell [79]

Whack job? I think he knows what he is about. Anyway, the topic.

What more can be said? Some are thoroughly decent and some are problematic. The UK has far more pressing concerns and worries, that's for sure.

Love / Advice on a Polish girlfriend who suddenly stopped contact. [32]

FP, I'm kind of thinking about that myself ;)

Wrocław, nah. I'm quite traditional when it comes to marriage. Like old style Poles or Japanese, longevity and endurance are values I admire. No playing around.

Sok, I didn't know that. Are you on familiar ground with that subject or...? ;)

As for the thread, we really don't know the full extent of the situation but, based on first impressions, she has done a runner and is looking for another victim.

Love / Advice on a Polish girlfriend who suddenly stopped contact. [32]

Midas is spot on here! The guilt eventually catches up with them and they sever contact. I remember an experience I had before meeting my wife. It was way back in early 2005 and a girl had taken a liking to me. One thing led to another (no games, quick progress) and she was all ready to start seeing me as some convenience. I asked her friends if she was single and they told me that she had a partner already. Needless to say, I cut the chord and she was devastated but starting hurling abuse at me. She was emotionally unstable. Another girl that got talking to me at a club couldn't accept the fact that I had a GF (my present wife). I told her that she was in the UK but would be coming back to me. She kept telling me that she wouldn't know but I'm not into casual flings. I think with the right head and told her that she should look elsewhere. You make your choices and life and live with them. My present wife, for any minuses she might have, has many many plusses and I stand by her. Loyalty goes a long way!

Love / Advice on a Polish girlfriend who suddenly stopped contact. [32]

I've observed that quite a few Polish women tend to have a Polish boy somewhere in their lives. You were the interim emotions propper-upper, Deej. They will lean on you until they see fit to return to their Polish BF. They are masters of shielding things. She will have returned to her lad with all her romantic idealism and then think, once again, that the grass is always greener on the other side. I've seen it so many times. Unless you can get her to commit to sth, there will always be that prospect.

Midas is right!! If sb wants sth enough, they will get it. Some women here have an amazing ability to make you feel like nothing. So many aren't settled in their lives and that leads to problems. She is between things and fumbling around for what she thinks best. Be cold, give her a taste of her own medicine! There's a lot of coldness here so you just need to roll with the punches.

George Galloway, a Scottish MP, talking about Polish workers and how good they are. He sees it well. I agree with him on almost everything.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

MC in Poland? When you give people rights, it can be hard to take them away. Let the wrong people in and you'll spend a fortune getting them out. Poland doesn't want a Chechnya style situation anywhere. Things are fine as they are. Yes, I'm focussing on a potential radical aspect but this is the way to disaster. Generally, a few more foreigners here wouldn't hurt.

I think the key is to have good ambassadors. There are many Scots I know that could easily tarnish the reputation of Scots as being good travellers and minglers. The same goes for Poles who sent many undesirables abroad. Some people here are amongst the best I have met in my life, esp my Polish family, and it is that which is important. With mutual respect, MC is workable but certain groups just don't show that.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

I-S, there is simply no comparison between Aberdeen and Gliwice in terms of foreigners. If you took away all the Africans, Indians, Pakistanis and Chinese then there would still be more as we have so many international students from literally everywhere. I kid you not, it's hard to pick out Scots sometimes. Is it a disaster? No but it's more than likely a strain on resources.

True Scots are really white too but MC is very evident now. More Africans and Chinese than Scots in some parts. Poles must be surprised when they visit Scotland.
