Genealogy / Slavs are descendants of Sarmatians? [600]

The NORMAN Conquest, read "NOR[TH]MAN Conquest....William The Conqueror might as well have been called "Vilhelm Eroberen", because of course wasn't French at all, not even "Frankish", but Scandinavian by extraction, if not birth:-)

Polonia / Ever been to Sweden? [185]

I'm merely decrying the glaring failures of globalization as well as rampant multiculturalism.

Ah, but to live...and as a foreigner no less?

Although I haven't been there for years as you know, I do correspond often with Swedish acquaintances and they are middle-class citizens, native Swedes, both university teachers, and don't share your optimism, I'm afraid.

Losing ground quickly though, as in Germany, due to reckless and misguided immigration policies aka over-foreignization brought on by over-liberalization!

The Nordic Model USED to be the envy of the world, but sadly, no more.

I already have and my opinion still stands.

Much like Poland, Sweden was historically one homogeneous, Christian country with essentially zero "minorities", unless one considers the relatively scant number of Jews in Stockholm, stray Lapplanders or Saami in Northern Sweden, and a number of Finns:-)

Furthermore, the Swedes (as with the Poles) were never directly consulted concerning their views on the government's allowing hordes of non-European foreigners to stream en masse into the country!

Public anger? As I said before, I can well understand the outcry, even though I strongly disapprove of their methods.

News / Intentional Miscegenation in Poland [26]

"Genocide's the wrong word, Ironside! It's called population remission based on attrition owing to lower birth rates than ever up till now.

Polonia / Ever been to Sweden? [185]

I was there in summer, "Midsommar" to be more precise, and while it was to be sure a good deal chillier than New York, I noticed most of the restaurant staff in all but maybe the finest, five-star hotels were exclusively foreigners aka brown-skinned Pakistanis....barely a native ethnic Swede in the service industry to be found, save for some occasional front-desk staff of student age.

Sweden, that is Goteborg and Boraas, was great and while the Swedes were slightly taken aback a first that I spoke to them only in Swedish, they appreciated it in the long run.

From what I have seen what's happened to much of urban Sweden of late, I'm starting to seriously re-think a return trip(:-

Polonia / Ever been to Sweden? [185]

I was last in Goteborg in the early 90's and encountered there some stray Poles who apparently didn't speak any Swedish. The city's a knockout, but couldn't imagine living in (not even just visiting) a country without knowing at least the basics of the language.

Had a wonderful time though and would return if I could:-) However, knowing the language, for me, made all the difference.

I agree. A number of us also tend to take a more serious and responsible view of both marriage and parenthood!

As a history teacher, I surely am interested in putting forth my views and indeed have done so. You simply might disagree with some of them, that's all:-)

Nothing wrong indeed with interracial marriage, biracial adoption and so forth. Nothing "morally" wrong, that is. Only thing is that on must ask onself seriously why an average white male or female from a European country would choose such for a life mate, parent of any children etc., if not to prove some point about multi-ethnic cohabitation or more to the point, simply to shake up convention.

Call me a skeptic, but I question whether it's always just out of love in every single instance.

The Jews remain the ever-popular scapegoat because they typically stand out and often steadfastly refuse to compromise, particularly the Orthodox.

Right, Delph! Poland, unlike Germany, France, even Sweden and Holland, hasn't as yet gone whole hog into the entire diversity concept, is therefore not applicable, that's basically correct.

I couldn't agree with you more! People who promote spurious opinions or something similar shouldn't be taken seriously.
Glad I'm not one of those people, aren't you?

News / Intentional Miscegenation in Poland [26]

America has always prided herself on being a melting-pot society. However nice sounding the words, the reality has been far different for all except perhaps for those immigrant communities themselves.

Run-away diversity coupled with affirmative action have crippled America.

Although as a Jew myself, I naturally cannot bring myself to side with one-time Senator Cabot Lodge who once stated during the end of the 19th century that Southern Europeans, including even Slavs as well (along with Eastern European Jews) were an unassimilable element within the predominantly W.A.S.P., Northern European culture at that era, I do feel that the ever-prevalent allure of cheap labor has degraded the once proud United States and turned that erstwhile "culture" into something less than desirable to those who grew up and knew far better times aka the Roosevelt Era. Many African-Americans apparently also would tend to agree with me:-)

When my grandparent came here, one of the first things they did was to learn English morning, noon, and night, assimilate as much as they possibly could, secure employment and become as self-sufficient as humanly possible. For a family of at least eight, this was a indeed a heroic feat.

No era is perfect and yet I find myself understanding Poland's dilemma more rather than less.

History / Do Prussians still remain in Poland? [33]

Because I omitted that piece of information, nonetheless would hardly mean I wasn't aware of it:-) The question was asked re: Tannenberg and her relation with Prussian history. I responded as I did, correctly, if perhaps not completely enough to your tastes.

Indeed there is! Tannenberg was a well-known spot, celebrated for the famous battle there during the Middle Ages.
Incidentally, Old Prussian was the last extant Baltic tongue before becoming extinct at the end of the 18th century or so.

What, pray, are "freak" Germans, Crow? Please explain, better still, translate from Crowese into plain English! Can't well respond intelligently to a post I don't understand, can I?

News / Hungary Veto on Poland Sanctions may not happen [108]

Europe feels herself bombarded by liberally imposed "empathy fatigue" and has unfortunately decided to swerve ever more to the right in order to avoid getting hit broadside by even more social programs, seen as bleeding the state dry. Once the left lane has been cleared of an ever increasing "pile up" of wrecked trash in the form of the growing number of dependents, she'll hopefully get back on course.

Hate to admit it, but it's true.

History / Do Prussians still remain in Poland? [33]

"Prussia" itself no longer exists as either a political or a cultural entity!

Moreoever, as you are doubtless aware, the "Prusi" way back when, weren't even Slavs to begin with, but Balts.
People still refer to the "Prussian Tradition", "Prussian Reformers" aka von Stein, Scharnhorst, and Gneisenau, but this refers exclusively to the Pommeranian area in and around Berlin.

There was a famous Polish author, Boleslaw Prus, perhaps a descendant of Prussians.
