UK, Ireland / How long would it take for an English style restaurant in Poland to go bust? [80]

open a 'dutch' pancake house or something similar

costs will go into good decor, crockery etc.

the town centre and shopping centres are too expensive for a small business. my opinion.

places to eat are a growing trend.

there will be a new restaurant on the river soon. u could try something similar.

failing that... buy an old castle/palace out of town and try your luck.

some sort of student bar/food place. cheap with fast turn around

something like Ed's Diner in London. (where i did short orders for a while)

if u ever do chilli cheese fries... i'll be a regular

english style is not the way to go because folks have already formed a negative opinion.

Law / Nasza Klasa, rumoured to be up for sale for €130m [11]

What can be done to revive NaszaKlasa?

they could allow a forum.

if they understood that people use it as a search tool for genealogy then they could build sections of the site into something new.

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

Read about recent history of Polish ship-building industry, for example (in the past, one of the largest in the world),

at one time the largest in the world was on the tyne (UK). now no more. shit happens.

Poland still has some small yards, which produce a quality product. It is still possible to diversify.

Food / Kotlet schabowy again. I love it. [47]

pork is for the days when you're roughin' it anyway

don't say that on a Polish forum. it's the national choice :)

''Kotlet schabowy again. I love it''.

it's nothing more than a pork chop, but without the flavour.

Life / Tricks & Dodges (The Poles are nothing if not inventive) [26]

Saw another trick the other day

i doubt it would work, if the concrete was vibrated or tamped down during the pour the package would open and the mush or liquid that's left over would just mix with the water in the concrete.

the foil wouldn't make much difference either.

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

I don't know where you've been or when; it seems your experiences at Dover in the 1990s on Polish coaches was entirely different from mine.

i've just checked my post and your quote. for some reason i quoted u (talking about the whole decade) and then i wrote about the time of the flood.

Yes, at other times i saw people turned back. and there was always a small group of Polish folk waiting in France for the return journey.

the first time i went to the uk on a Polish passport (with details of my british place of birth) i was also questioned.

the rest of my (above) post stands.

Life / Poland's Next Top Model (TV show) [73]

My interest in Polish TV has been revived a bit. Or is it all like all the other "top model" programs, full of annoying, not-very-attractive women?

the show has been running a few weeks now. most of the girls/women are too skinny. one or two have meat on the bones. one or two are clearly good looking, but the rest are ordinary.

when they have make-up on and are photographed for the special tasks most of them look hot, which i guess is the point of being a model and the show.

this weeks winner normaly looks like any other young woman, but for the photo shoot she clearly had something the others didn't.

the presenters are full of themselves and can be quite irritating at times. however, they are doing a job in a particular field of work that demands such types. i quite like all of them now.

those involved have to get their kit off, work with animals and be prepared for any other aspect of their trade.

the stess some of these women go through is very clear.

most people either love or hate this type of show. if u get to see it the photos that are discussed and shown in the final segment are sometimes a lesson in photography and what is possible.

as reality shows go this is one of the better ones.

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

In a tragedy where 69 people lost their lives, not a solitary news item about these floods were mentioned on British news, TV, radio or press (I don't know about other countries).

simply not true.

When travelling from Poland to London by coach in the 1990s, all the Czech nationals at Dover were whisked through with no problem, but all the Poles were given the third degree

also not true

i was in wroclaw the first week of the 97 flood. i then went to the uk by coach, which arrived early.

while in the uk the only way to find out what was happening at home, apart from the phone, was watching tv and reading the papers. there was plenty coverage.

News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

Jesus or this: wroclawdailyphoto.blogspot.com

scroll down for wroclaw's Train to Heaven The biggest heap of junk i've ever seen.

A question arises: should jesus be wearing a crown of thorns ? with the statue the way it depicts christ i think the thorns are out of context.

Love / Polish girls fall for Indian guys ? [217]

I was talking about the racism only and it should be stopped right away.

That is not the topic of the thread.

News / Giant Jesus Rising in Świebodzin ( Tallest in world ) [323]

it may look hideous, it may look beautiful. all depending on opinion, but it will put the town on the map.

the same can be said for the Angel of the North (in the uk). but in the angel's case most locals hate it with a passion.

i've been waiting for wroclaw to cause a stir and build something of touristic interest. but it'll never happen here.

the statue doesn't look too bad. it might be better if the head were a viewing platform. Then it might pay for itself.

Food / What's your favorite Polish beer? [870]

What do you propose?

the proper test. pour the beer... get a fountain-pen (no other pen will work)...write your name on the head/froth...drink...take a photo of your name at the bottom of the glass.

it really does work. strange but true.

Life / The Polish people have a strange attitude to cats and dogs? [84]

People in the cities tend to be a bit better, but still often they get rid of their dogs when they want to go on holidays. A friend of mine found a dog in a forest, tied to the tree,

that's a negative for Poland and a normal way (for some) to get rid of a dog.

Life / Good Polish cigarette brands? [7]

one or two of them are still around. i know that u won't find Carmen.

every time ciggies go up in price there is a new, cheaper brand. that's why smokers switched from L&M to Viceroy. But now Viceroy are difficult to find so some folk are back on L&M.

Life / Good Polish cigarette brands? [7]

but are there any good Polish cigarette companies?

most brands are probably owned by BAT, as are viceroy.
