Isn't half of zero still zero?

Des, please don't add sarcastic remarks.

I think your instincts are right in this case.

I did say "some" as some people on here ask about Celta etc. I also think the previous poster answered in a fair manner, and "no" I'm not taking sides.

Off-Topic / Are you living in Poland? [77]

But... why would someone stay here if they hated it?

For some the reason could be, their wife's/girlfriends/partners/boyfriends wish to live there , and they have no choice if they want to keep them. It also makes me wonder why a teacher, or other professions would want to work in another country with a low income? My instincts tell me that some probably wouldn't be good enough to do these jobs in their own native country where the wages could be 5 times higher, or like I just said, someone from the opposite sex are somehow involved in their decision.

I know from my short visits to Poland, that's it's easy to fall in love with the country, or admire the generosity of the Polish people when they accept you as a friend, or as friend of their sons/ daughters etc. Others could have Polish roots and wish to live there amongst their own, so these could be two genuine reasons to live there, but I just don't get why anyone would go to work somewhere, where the income could be up to 5 times less, than it would be at home?

Language / Polish past tense of chodzic/ jezdzic? [23]

Can you restate it, say it with different English words?

In the UK a "takeaway" is a fast food place where you take the food with you (usually home) because they don't provide an eating area, so it's take away only.

Sounds a bit big. If it was 800mm or 900 mm I would agree with you.

Isn't it a waste of time?

No it's not a waste of time, don't be put off by a few racist thugs who are in the minority. BTW since your little break from PF, your command of the English language has improved 10 fold, and it seems you have reached an advanced level.

Off-Topic / Loading a photo of Poland from your mobile/cell phone takes 30 seconds, come on! [86]

I just want to find out if ridiculing people for not having the newest gadgets is so prevalent in Britain as I suppose it is

In general I don't think this is the case as most people look for value, and only people with more money than sense buy the latest gadgets when they first hit the shelf. The smart people would wait 6 months or a year and get them at nearly half price.

Only today, a group of people with money to burn, queued up over night to be the first to own a smart phone that has a battery that the consumer cant change him/herself, has no storage upgrade, and maps that have towns invisible or in a different place, The cost of this new wonder phone? £525 for16 GB storage or £699 if you prefer 64 GB

One could buy a good PC/laptop and a £100 smartphone that does more and still have change.

Feedback / Look alike screen names - is it allowed in PF? [15]

Would an IP block answer it?

If the gentleman creates a look alike username again, with the sole purpose of using it against the member with the original name, then the gentleman will find himself locked out from PF by whatever means. If the gentlemen had dynamite instead of brains, I don't think he would have enough to blow his hat off.

I meant LLOK ALIKE names not same names.

But you have already tried this a couple of weeks ago, and got yourself suspended and your new look alike name account did too. If this didn't answer your question, then I don't know what will?

Language / The most effective methods to learn the Polish language? [56]

but anyone learning Polish should get a teacher to help them.

That's very true and I will do so myself in time. I also think it would be best do a lot of self study before taking lessons with a teacher. The reasons are, it would give the learner a good head start on how the language works, and they would also know what to expect, when they take their course/lessons in the future.

Language / The most effective methods to learn the Polish language? [56]

The run before you can walk approach might be OK in a classroom with a Polish teacher, who can give you explanations of how the language works in your own native language, As a self study book, it would probably be a hindrance, if you have to look up every other word in a dictionary. Asking a Polish friend for help may not be the answer either because chances are, if he or she is not a teacher of Polish language they probably won't be able to explain the language's nuances etc. There are exceptions of course.

Language / The most effective methods to learn the Polish language? [56]

One of the big advantages is that you have to speak Polish, this is particularly useful if you are learning Polish outside of Poland,

I still can't see how a beginner would know enough Polish to ask the teacher to explain the cases, conjugation, declensions and other grammatical concepts. Surely a book in you own native language would be best to explain this?

My school textbooks for French were always written solely in French... quite common, I think?

I take it you were allowed to ask your teacher in English for explanations?

Feedback / Polish Forums Android / iPhone app? [14]

but in the "settings" menu there is no "view" option.

Yours is a newer model than mine. I found the option in the settings menu (the last one in the list) under "view mode"

I would add, viewing web content and editing messages on a mobile phone is a hassle anyway, and not a pleasant experience. Laptops, desktops and possibly tablets, are the best way to go for sure:)

How do I change view from mobile to PC?

It might vary from phone to phone. Mine is a Samsung and when you open the web browser there's a "settings" icon/ button, with an option under "view"

How do you quote someone's post? the quote button doesn't appear.

I've had this conversation with another poster before, and it seems it works for some and not for others. I found that holding my finger on one of the words in a sentence will highlight the word and bring up two arrows, which can then can be dragged along a sentence or paragraph. I have also set my internet view to PC, rather than mobile view ,and the quote button is there in the normal place.

Life / Which sim card to buy in Poland? [30]

Roaming charges only apply when making calls, not to receiving calls.

Roaming charges are charges when your network provider uses a sister network in another country. If you have a sim card from a certain country and you make calls within that country you would not be roaming, you would be making calls at that country's network providers rate. At least that's how I understand it.

Life / Which sim card to buy in Poland? [30]

It might be cheaper to buy a pay as you go sim card in each country. If you just buy one card, you will have to pay roaming charges which will be expensive.

Feedback / Look alike screen names - is it allowed in PF? [15]

So meaning that look alike names are not permitted thus PF follows strict copyright like rules?

I don't think it has anything to do with copyright rules, it just doesn't make sense to have two or more members on any website using the same user names.

Maybe the look alike name was gay and was banned from posting for cpl of months as far as I remember.

I'm afraid you have lost me there.

The best person to answer your original question would be admin, so check back here in a few days or so.

Feedback / Look alike screen names - is it allowed in PF? [15]

A very strange question indeed. I wonder why anyone would feel the need to copy another members user name? A quick scan through current members user names showed members had either uppercase or lowercase, but not a combination of both (obviously the first letter can be capitalised) . My guess would be that when you register a new name for your account ,a filter or script will recognise that the name is already in use and you will be asked to pick an alternative one.

On the same topic, in the past we have had trolls copying other members user names by reversing one letter etc, but these "copycat" names were soon noticed and were quickly taken out of circulation, and of course, so were the trolls.
