News / German legal discrimination against Polish speakers [209]

Did Polish people have minority rights in what is nowadays Germany? No, because they were immigrants there (e.g in the Ruhr Valley). As to why Germany did not repeal Göhrings decree, take a guess.

Perhaps because the affected area no longer belongs to Germany?

And he even said this almost one year after the referendum.... .

This picture tells us all we need to know about British preparedness for Brexit.

Life / Political correctness in Poland [210]

First Marxism, then Leninism

And the UK sheltered Marx after he was exiled from his homeland because of his revolutionary ideas and gave him the freedom to develop and spread his theories. If you blame Germany for Leninism, you have to blame the UK for Marxism.

Regarding statistics, it is also important to note that countries have different standards regarding rape and other things. Sweden for example classify more things as rape than many other countries. Russia has recently decriminalized "light" domestic violence, so if we go by their crime statistics, it will no doubt look better than by Western standards.

You do have a point, though I believe you are directing it at the wrong people. It is not BB who constantly dehumanizes refugees as "raping invading hordes" and "parasites". The Nazis did the same regarding jews in their efforts to dehumanize them and prepare the Germans for their elimination.

@Bratwurst Boy

Just add the numbers and you will see that the european immigration to Germany offsets any african/muslim immigration by far....

Indeed, especially of you consider that European migration to Germany has been high since the start of the Euro debt crisis in 2009, which üredates the refugee crisis for several years.

Net migration from the EU has been over 400k last year alone.

Indeed, 2017 saw more arrivals from Eastern Europe than refugees.

Spike, look at the statistics, they are giving a better picture than some limited personal experience. Net migration to Germany from Poland has actually increased, and there have been quite a lot of articles how Polish families have helped stabilizing dying communities, especially in Western Pommerania.

who are concerned enough to quit everything

Perhaps some individuals, but the trend goes in the opposite direction. You can see the same (if not more pronounced) with Hungary. Orban is constantöy ranting about refugees, while all the young Hungarians are leaving. Well, Germany does benefit from it, but it is still sad seeing a country bleeding out.

We have had a net immigration of 100k from Poland for almost a decade by now. Polish people are already the second largest group of foreigners in Germany. Many of those will stay in Germany with their children.

@Dirk diggler

Germany paid reparations to Poland after German reunification after a special agreement was made. The other countries waved their claim to reparations with the 2+4 treaty.

And if anything, the refugees should grant Germany the right to ask Poland for financial compensation. Because Germany pays for them, Poland does not have to.

Poland received compensation, in territory and money from Germany.

Now it is more like "We are sorry that our great-grandparents did this to you, but obviously we are not going to pay you additional money for what they did. Which is the only logical thing to do. Even if Germany were to pay, the next Polish generation would just demand more money.

Well, Southern Europeans seem to trust German politicians more than their own, so that is a good start. And the relationship between the French and Germans is nowadays really close, both politically and economically, with many people working in Franco-German companies. You simply see what you want to see, and if it makes you sleep better, so be it. I know I can sleep soundly knowing how secure Germany's position in Europe is right now.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

It's easier for The UK to find new countries to buy from

Countries such as? There are not many advanced economies outside of the EU to choose from, and those who are (basically the USA, Kanada, South Korea, Japan and Australia) are a large Ocean away.

You're talking about bureaucratic negotiations

Matters like free movement are no mere bureaucratic talking points. This is not something some bureaucrats in Bruessels want to uphold, but all of the other EU member states. The problem is that the Brexiteers subscribe to the notion that it all comes down to Bruessels being punitive, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

@mafketis

But assuming the persona of a punitive monolith won't help it either...

You keep using those words, but how can justify this description? The EU is not punitive wheb it points out that the UK won't enjoy the same priviliges as a non-member as it did before. That is simply common sense. What the EU has offered the UK so far has been very reasonable and is orientated at deals that were made with other countries.

It is not "punitive" to point out that "having your cake and eat it" is not going to happen. The problem is that the politicians who advocated Brexit created so many unrealistic expectations (they need us more than we need them - any person with a basic understandibg of economics knows this to be untrur) that anything less is now seen as deliberate punishing.

You do know that it is not the EU that is against a Norway style solution right? The problem is that both Norway and Switzerland accept things (free movement and EU regulations) that go against the promises of the Brexiteers. But without those concessions, it is impossible to give the UK a similar deal.

. In theory at least, the voters could express their approval or disapproval.

The IR happened in the 18th (UK) and 19th (most of Europe) century, when the common people had no say in the governance of their country (that includes the UK). There were no safety or health regulations to speak of (those came only slowly in the late 19th century), and the misery of this time is reflected in many famous works of literature (most famously by Charles Dickens).

Karl Marx can btw. only be fully understood if you consider those circumstances (which is also why he is now mostly outdated).

Nowhere in the EU documents does it say that any country can on its own admit and redistribute any number of OUTSIDERS who enter the EU illegally without prior permission.

Indeed, and nothing of this sort happened. It was not Germany who let the refugees into the EU (that would be Italy and Greece) and it was not Germany that let them into Schengen (that would be again Italy, Austria er al.) The decision to allocate the refugees among the Eu was also not made by Germany, but by a vote of the other EU states.

Why do I have this feeling that Poland was never informed i

You have a lot of feelings about things, usually misguided like this one. The fact that the EU was always more than an economic entity was never secret, and for all plain to see in the 90s at the latest.

and letting the hordes in is part of the EU rules

The refugees were there in any case. Instead of ketting only the border countries shoulder the burden, it would have been appropiate to divert it on many shoulders. Poland has been very eager to demand solidarity in the past, but it failed to show it when it could have helped.

Germany is one of the few countries that is keeping the EU together, because it is still willing to show solidarity without which the EU can not exist.

Populist governments like Italy are the ones who seek to destroy the EU, not vice versa.

You can bet 9 out of 10 times that if someone pulled out a knife and started stabbing people or raped a woman its gonna be a foreigner, not a native European

Utterly ridiculous. Are you really that stupid to believe this?

Perhaps Trump told her sonething about Poland in this scene. If so, he most likely asked her a) where poland is on a map and b) if they should simply offer it to Russia with the Ukraine.
