Life / There is still no option to recycle in Warsaw! [18]

So now it's MOST areas, first you said:

In UK it is normal to sort any waste into separate bins which is then picked up and recycled by the bin men.

It's also NOT normal if you live in an apartment.

So in short, it is not NORMAL. What people can do is ask their council for the extra bins, for which they will be charged...oh and, the council may not even have the bins anyway.

Look Im not having a go at you, but you seem to think the UK is some recycling mecca and slag off a city like Warsaw, have you been to London lately? Do you seriously think a lot of recycling goes on there?

Im at the end of my tether with M/c city council, I want recycling facilities and they wont give them to me because I live in a flat! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

It's not normal, not all houses have the different bins and consider the amount of apartments in the UK, none of these have recycling facilities either.

There are however plenty of recyling places.

Language / Polite forms in Polish vs English [49]

She doesn't tend to be so much into please and thank yous. I think you're right though us brits do tend to go overboard when it comes to politness and

There is no such thing as "overboard", I'm a firm believer in using good manners, I can't abide rude people!

Do you mind popping down to the shop and get some?

would be perfectly acceptable, as long it's followed with a please

We've run out of milk! Go and buy some.

Would make me go out and come back 2 days later, without the milk

News / "Poles want cut on foreign workers" - (in Poland obviously) [47]

I mean what do you think is the cause of poor third world countries and develpoed first world countries?.

Poor, corrup governments, Im not saying we are perfect in europe, but we are more regulated.

For me key point is respect to each other and Judging only individuals I don't care whatever people are doing unless it harms me I don't generalize or judge people according to their race.

But because of the state their countries are in it is affecting europe due to mass immigration and this harms europe.

So maybe it would be better for India to be massacred by their colonizers like native americans. At least their country would have a better infrastructure by civilized europeans !.

Not at all and you know full well that I didnt mean that.

News / "Poles want cut on foreign workers" - (in Poland obviously) [47]

America and Australia is still owned by the Europeans (It's not the locals who rule the land), not like the India which is colonized once but now they are ruling their own country.

Which of those countries would you prefer to live in? Which of those countries have good infrastructure? Of those countries which ones do not hand the begging bowl round when they have a disaster? India are a developing country and are developing fast, but the facts still remain they have a low opinion of human life and the devide between the dirt poor who will never receive an education and those that are living the high life are oceans apart hence the reason migration is so high.

Maybe our point of views on culture and civilization is different.

What is your definition of a civilised country?

News / "Poles want cut on foreign workers" - (in Poland obviously) [47]

These examples are really irrelevant and really has nothing to do with culture or civilization.

Why are they irrelevant? They are facts.

I don't defend or proud of this like you.

Im proud of being part of a nation that was great. Im not proud of some the actions that made us once great.

anyway if we think what europeans did to indians and aborigins it still makes sense

What was done to the aboriginis and native americans was disgusting.

And I am sure you know I didn't mean America and Australia they are very different case

Why?

News / "Poles want cut on foreign workers" - (in Poland obviously) [47]

Jeezzz, still with the racist remarks

Where was I racist?

Calling a nation lazy and then complaining that they work hard and under cut "your" country is not a coherent argument.

The government haven't managed to put an effective health care system in place, they have a crumbling infrastructure...I'd say that's pretty lazy. The fact they have little respect for human life is a different debate.

Where did the U.K amass it's wealth?.
I like the national museum in London but it is amazing how many cultures were pillaged from all around the world.

We amassed our wealth through trade and export. Not all of our past is something to be proud of, I have already said this.

This is true, again completely under mining your own argument.

Hardly, I was just countering his comments when he was thanking the poor Ukrainian working for slave wages in Poland who was contributing to this future pension, albeit not a lot! It was also a flipant remark, follow the thread carefully SBM before jumping all over me.

If the countries colonized by you is in a bad situation now, You are also responsible for this

America and Aus are fine, they were colonized by Euroepans who stayed there, the only ones that are not are the ones where the indiginous population are, how are we responsible for that? They gained independence decades ago, how long can you blame another for your shortcomings before you take responsibility for your own failings.

Also having power to conquer or colonize somewhere doesn't mean you are more civilized from them.

Cultures are different I agree with you there, but when in this day and age someone is still shitting in an open sewer and bathing in a river you have to ask why? I can only conclude that they are not as civilised as we are in the UK and that they are unmotivated to improve their situation, which I would call lazy and uncivilised by western standards.

Sucking someone's blood for a while don't give you right to suck their blood forever.

Ottoman Empire? Very few nations are without blood on their hands Mephias.

It also lessens the credibility of Brits complaining about an influx of foreigners

Not really, the countries we "governed" wanted us out and were agressive in some cases in their actions, they wanted independence, they got it and most of them can't wait to leave the shitholes they so dearly wanted independence for and want to come the country they hated "governing" them which I always find quite strange.

In a way, not always a very nice way.

Agreed.

So, now we have a colonies too. We called them a New UK-land ;-]

Grrrrrrrr ;0)

News / "Poles want cut on foreign workers" - (in Poland obviously) [47]

It makes me laugh when English speaking people talk about staying in one's own country. So why is it exactly that North America, Australia, half of Africa, India etc now use English as first or official language

We Ruled, we had colonies - quite impressive wasn't it?

That does not make sense. Most of the immigrants would not have any work whatsoever if they did not emigrate from their own countries, so what kind of exploitation are you talking about

What bollox! Most are to lazy to improve their own countries, look at India they have the majority of the worlds trade in garments manufacturing and call centres yet they still flee India faster that a rat up a drainpipe.

No, I get it quite well, thank you very much. I am enjoying myself in England, earning enough money to pay for my education and mortgage I have back in Poland. I'm just slightly worried that at the moment nobody is working for my pension there, I was hoping a Chinese person would but now you guys are telling me my government isn't letting them.

Good for you, tell me why you are in the UK, hmmm, let me guess, the wages are poor back home? Do you think massess of cheap labour are going to improve that??? A friend of mine is a time served steel fixer, he has been back in Poland since mid December, he still hasn't got a job, the money being offered is peanuts and he feels that it's an insult to him for someone to offer such low wages.

Anyway thanks for your NI contributions towards my future pension :)

colonialism??

I think's he's a bit stupid Mr KB ;0)

Pure adonis :)

I always wonder, how spoilt, lazy and uninspired must be people who complain about immigrants taking over their jobs.

You really don't get it do you! Do you think cheap labour is benefical for your "average" pole? Do you think your "average" pole can aford to take home peanuts to feed his family and pay his mortgage? Do you think your "average" pole wants to feel like a foreigner in his own country?

Be careful what you wish for, is all I can say!

UK, Ireland / Immigration and Identity: how to keep Polish identity when living in UK. [30]

Very true, you have never met any professional polish or non-polish persons so why do you profess that they would not want to spend the rest of their lives here. You make it all up as you go along, or whoever upsets you on the said day.

And you seem to think you know me...which is quite untrue, why not sign on as your usual ID or are you scared? Silly girl....Im not going to be provoked by someone like you...! :)

Such as? Come on Shel, let's have some stereotypes. 'Pakis' are all benefit scrounging Jihadists? Somalis are all knife wielding maniacs?

Not exactly what I meant, but since you wrote what you did, yeah why not.

What the hell are you talking about? Bjesus. Most Brits don't share the same ethnicity - 'White' is not an ethnic group!

It was a mistake...

UK, Ireland / Immigration and Identity: how to keep Polish identity when living in UK. [30]

Despite Shelley's ludicrous comments about no professional or intelligent Pole wanting to stay in UK, many do. Part of it is simply that work was/is available in UK and the career opportunities are/were better.

Whatever, i dont know any professionals that want to spend the rest of their lives here....and very few in decent jobs want to disrupt their familes lives at home, since as you pointed out:

An example; a friend of mine is a teacher but teaching pays crap money in Poland so he moved to UK to work, found the opportunities of reasonably well-paid factory work and decided to stay to earn money for a flat.

The above is the reason they are here! Not to create a home.

You also might want to note that I used the word "majority" which doesn't cover the entire population of Poland.

Polish people in the UK generally do their shopping at Sainsburys or Tesco - there are some "Polski Skleps"

Some Polish people will go to Polish socials, some don't, some Polish people have Polish TV some who speak English, dont have Polish TV....Some Poles are "clannish" some are quite friendly and open to having English friends...

Dmustudent, there are no hard and fast answers to your questions, Poles are not like certain other minorities from other countries that have landed on our shores, Poles are for the most part very much the same as any other nationality in Europe, the only difference between other European nationals and Poles is the numbers they arrived in the UK and for those Brit that haven't done a lot of travelling they seem to think anyone with a foriegn accent these days is Polish, here is an example: A woman was complaining about how loud a guy on the bus was, she said "bloody Polish" the guy was Hungarian!

UK, Ireland / Immigration and Identity: how to keep Polish identity when living in UK. [30]

I'd say the ones who are quite low class as we have a better benefit system than in Poland, even Poland has it's under-class and whilst stories of how good british benefits filter through, those sort will still arrive and settle, lets face it they have fuck all in Poland so why not come over here - fee housing, benefits, free school dinners, the list is endless - it's a totally different story in Poland......

No professional inteligent pole would want to live in such a shite hole as the UK for any prolonged period of time let alone move his / her family - those that are in these kind of positions are here purly to make money to make a nice nest egg in Poland, I seriously doubt they would think for one minute that they would move their family here.

I'm really interested in migration in general, and can see how Polish migration is simmilar to many other forms of migration, and am using Polish migration as a case study to explore migration as a whole.

It's purely economical - the vast majority will return home - Poland is not some 3rd world slum from which people are risking life and limb to escape.

Think British ex pats in Spain and you bascially have Polish ex pats in the UK. Fortunately Brits get a much better deal since they have sunshine, fab wine and heavenly food :) (all Spanish that is).

Looks to me like they're doing the same as any other ethnic groups who move to another country 'en masse'.

Can you explain what you mean by the above, Poles are the same ethnic group as Brits - or did you mean, nationality? rather than ethnic?
