Work / Questions about moving from UK to Poland - work, taxes, child benefit [30]

Harry is right that Polish tax office may decide, that since your wife lives here and children, then here is your living center, so you should pay taxes here. But maybe you can simply not inform anybody about you living in Poland. Don't register here, don't open Polish bank account. Then nobody will even think to chase you for taxes, especially that you pay them in UK.

You shouldn't move too far away from an airport, otherwise it will be very tiring to travel regularly.

The plan is for me to move full time to Poland although i assume until i can speak a good level of Polish my possible job options would be very limited?

IMHO If you don't have a good job offer from Poland and a lot of savings from abroad, then it has no economic sense to move to Poland.

We will have no major housing costs as we will be staying with her family to start with and will be converting empty property on their land.

At least don't stay in the same apartment with them. You now what you're risking by living with your in-laws?

With regards to health provsion can i apply via a E106 to get them covered in Poland? I assume i would carry on using the EHIC card until i moved over full time.

I would be surprised if your wife unregistered from UK and registered as resident of Poland could be covered by your British health insurance. Moreover EHIC is for travel only and covers only sudden problems. I think you won't be able to do regular checkup with it. Polish insurance for unemployed is 350zł/month currently:

Study / Where to study in Poland? Wroclaw University, Uniwersytet Gdanski or Lazarski? [9]

Yes, but 2h away from Wrocław are high mountains. I think Śnieżka peak is the highest around there - 1603m

So it's perfect destination for weekend trips.

Work / Moving Wroclaw/ Salary negotiations as a senior research engineer with PHD [23]

40000 eur = 173000 pln so it's nearly 15000 pln monthly gross which I mentioned as maximum available for most of people. It's 14400 pln gross monthly or 10000 pln net with current exchange rate. Meaning that you couldn't get better deal in Poland as a scientist/engineer. And if they pay for apartment then you can live great in Poland for that money. Only major expense would be English school for your kid if you don't want him to attend free Polish school. Wrocław is also one of the best cities in Poland to live and prices as you could see in numbeo.com are much lower than in Finland.

Find few Indians in this forum and send them private message with the same question (you have to register for that).
Start search here, but it's hard to tell which of them live in Poland, so better write to those who wrote many posts here:

Thank you for all inputs. Do you believe it a good idea to move from Finland.
How is the life in Wroclaw. How you compare it to Finland. In Finland, we are not feeling unsafe as foreigners. What about in Wroclaw.

You mean that you feel save in Finland? In Poland you will be OK too as long as you look as Pole. Otherwise you should be save too, but people may stare at you. I don't think that crisis hit Finland so much that it would be profitable to move to Wrocław:

Work / Moving Wroclaw/ Salary negotiations as a senior research engineer with PHD [23]

I'd need to see a job spec but I don't think 200,000 is out of the question, if this is a technical role in IT.

Most of jobs in IT which pay this much are in small companies which work directly for American clients. Nokia is an outsourcing center and it's here in Poland in order to pay as little as possible.

200 000 PLN gross in Poland is very hard to get. People with PhD rarely work in their professions and even less earn a lot. Check how much earn people from your profession with MSc + as many years experience as your working years + your PhD time. Simply treat your PhD as experience from a good company, nothing more. As it's Nokia's outsourcing center you can count on 5000 - 15000 zł gross per month IMHO and you would have to be very lucky to reach the upper range.

Here you have few salaries reports:

Study / Which is the best university to study international/european law and international relation in Poland? [29]

The free fees is for those who are residents of EU

No:

Study Abroad 365 has put together a list of 25 universities in Germany that are tuition free for international students seeking to study in Germany.

topuniversities.com/forum/studying-abroad-general-discussion/free-tuition-universities-germany-cost-living-visa-application-admission-deadline

I don't think there are universities in Germany whichprovide bachelor's degree in English as mode of instruction (i did not find any).

Official website shows 167 undergraduate programs in English: tiny.cc/x1iesx

Study / Which is the best university to study international/european law and international relation in Poland? [29]

You simply don't get my point do you? I have never asked about how is job opportunities in POLAND as i am not looking forward to settle in Poland obviously.

But Polish degrees don't have higher value than Indian in western Europe, so why would you study in Poland if not intending to work there later?

in Europe in some affordable recognized university. And to go for international internships in Europe while i study

But study in Poland will make only distance lower. In Europe there are only 2 English speaking countries: Ireland and UK (maybe Malta too, but it's tiny). So if you don't speak German or French you won't get internship there. And now Ireland has got crisis and competition for internships and graduate jobs is fierce there and UK is diploma factory for people from all around the world so the situation is similar. It's very unlikely that you will get into internship there if you study in Poland since British consider their universities superior to Polish. So it seems that you have forgotten that European Union is not United State and people speak different languages here.

Plus i can even start my own entrepreneurship business or go for a job with an international degree and no debts obviously which will be a huge positive.

You can start your business now too and there is no such thing as international degree.

1. If you do BSc engineering 7 semester. ( This is not valued as a engineering course anywhere in the world but will regarded as regular Bachelor science course)

Polish Engineering degrees are honored in whole European Union. But must people do later Magister (Master) diploma anyway.

since above listed are all accredited and public universities, i won't be having any trouble getting job in my country if i have an international degree from these universities but If i enroll in a privatized universities in Poland or other countries there may be a problem to make my degree valuable in the home country

All universities in Poland are accredited. Otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to be called university. So in the end you want to study European law in Poland in order to get a job back in India or in UK?

You know what, if you want study this international law in Poland. At least we will make some money on you. But if you want to have a job in the west afterward here is simple instruction: Learn German. Study computer science, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering in Germany. If you cannot get accepted into free studies in Germany do 1st level in India (or in Poland) and then do Master in Germany. In case you cannot get accepted into free master in Germany you will have to pay for 2 years only (and it's cheaper than in UK or USA). As Engineering graduate with MSc from the biggest European country with lowest unemployment and knowledge of it's language you will get a job there. I know few Indians who successfully did exactly that.

You won't get a job in International Law in Germany, because to work in humanities perfect knowledge of the language is necessary and competition for job is bigger.

Study / Which is the best university to study international/european law and international relation in Poland? [29]

LOL among indian universities there are only 2 private unuiversities which are not even in top world 500 universities list.

So you have confirmed what DominicB wrote. Poland doesn't have any technical university in top 500.

i don't know what type of people you meet or come across, they are probably the most dumbest people in earth like seriously you get a bachelors in management or law and you F@#k@#g park cars and work as a waiters.

Where are you from? This is reality in Poland, where 50% of young graduate university and management happens to be one of the easiest to get into and pass specialties. Perhaps it's not so common in India, where 50% graduate primary school...

diploma course in graphic design and web design

Because currently there is demand for that. But there is no demand for inexperienced International Lawyers or Management graduates.

My dad is an engineering in the biggest steel plant of country and even my big brother did an engineering eventually ended up in a software company after studying mechanical engineering.

That's caused by ease of IT outsourcing and current boom in IT. But In advanced engineering economies like Germany IT people don't really earn more than other engineers (yes, programmers are engineers too).

Plus here 80% of jobless people have engineering degrees or they end up in a software

You see, they don't end up unemployed.

and those who take management studies get easily placed in a company of their stream.

This is reality in India?

it's not guaranteed anywhere, its you who have to excel to best whatever you choose

So why don't you study management if it nearly guarantee good job?

I know i can't make money in Poland while i am studying 3 years neither can

But in Poland, expect if you study Computer Science, you will not get a job after graduation too.

Study / Which is the best university to study international/european law and international relation in Poland? [29]

Both are true. Engineering in Poland is not bad and Poland is not good for International students because Polish diplomas aren't much valued in the west. Luckily engineers can have their knowledge relatively fast checked on interview and trial period and as long as there is demand for them (because for example in Greece or Spains there is not much now) no diploma from prestigous university is not a problem. But if you can do study in the west, because you will have easier access to internships in western companies which do more R&D (do more engineering work) than Polish.

Work / Thinking of working or investing in Poland (Think AGAIN!) Experience and attitude of British toward Poland. [80]

Employers more often than not appreciate the fact that someone was able to adjust to their circumstances and did what they had to do to earn a living, even if they had to cut down a bit.

In IT it would be hard to explain why somebody has worked as English teacher instead in the profession locally or online. Not with the current job market. All my colleges from university who don't work in IT are either very bad at it or don't want to work in front of computer. Now big companies open branches even in 100 000 people cities in order to find affordable workforce.

Study / Archeology studies in Poland? [7]

Better in Greece, Malta, Croatia or Portugal. Similar costs, but better weather and same job prospects after graduation. Archeologists in Poland mostly check land before road construction start. All job places are already taken. But if weather is not a priority for you, then Poland is good country for students.

Study / Which is the best university to study international/european law and international relation in Poland? [29]

Studies for foreigners are free in Germany and perhaps some other countries, so if you cannot afford UK, then check Germany and perhaps think about some other specialty as DominicB has suggested. And 20 years old is not a problem. Problem may be, when you will realize graduating the law at the age of 24, that you cannot find any job and have to study something else again.

Study / What requirements for moving through ECTS to any other European Country, if coming to Poland on student visa? [15]

You have to find it out from the university where you want to move. Here is some general info for medical students transferring to Romania:

Transfer medical students in Romania

Can transfer to medical universities in Romania:

Medical students who have started medical university in another country and want to continue his studies in Romanian medical university, without losing his ECTS credits;
Student who has started university studies related to medical university studies (Biology, chemistry, biophysics, etc ) or has finished such studies and he want to start medical university studies in Romania: those ECTS credits that he has gained in his previous studies and which are common to medical studies can be evaluated;
Medical student in Romania transferring from one university to other

studyinginromania.com/medical-university-application.html

It may look similar for other specialties and countries.

Here in Germany:

If you have already begun with a degree course abroad and want to transfer your credit points to a German university, you need to talk to the university you are switching to. The decision is entirely up to them. Try to find out as much about your new degree program as you can beforehand -- you might need academic transcripts and letters of recommendation as well.

Life / Want to become an expat to Poland? Consider your options before going abroad. [18]

And here is the problem. If these people are badly payed - minimum salary, then foreigners speaking less fluent Polish cannot compete with them. Employer perhaps would employ foreigner if could pay less, but because of minimum salary cannot. I've heard that quite many Ukrainians work during summer season on Baltic Sea. And it happens mostly, because they agree to work illegally (so employers save on taxes) and often for more than 8h per day.

Work / Thinking of working or investing in Poland (Think AGAIN!) Experience and attitude of British toward Poland. [80]

I wouldnt employ the OP in the UK because of his poor command of English and bad development attitude. So its not surprising he couldnt get a job in one of Polands unemployment blackspots.

There is plenty IT jobs in £ódź. It's really surprising that he couldn't get any. I know that IT isn't just a programming, but for programmers there is currently 560 £ódź jobs adds less than 1 month old on this website:
