News / The cross in Polish parliament - Does it bother you? [100]

And since religion has been the major cause of killing, torture and death if you look back in times

Absolutely. And do we know a Religion which treats women well or at least normally?
Apart from Buddhism which is more of a philosophy than a religion ,i don't.

News / The European Health Card. Why don't the Poles know about it? Free Medical care. [26]

In Europe we are all entitled to free medical care in any of the 27 countries which are part of Europe.(+ Norway, and a couple of others)

I have noticed that my Polish friends don't know about it and most of them have never asked their health card although it is free and extremely useful all over Europe.

The way it works is that basically depending where in Europe you are from, you need to get this card from your local Health institution ( the card has to be renewed every year) and you may live or travel in Europe and get free medical care, which is very useful for students for example.

Check the EU website for info

UK, Ireland / The Slavic Tax Thieves Stealing from the UK [29]

Nothing to do with Poles being smart,

You just said it they had to leave the country because Poland failed them , they chose countries with generous social policies ( Norway ,UK, France,) so i call that beeing smart .

I do not defend cheaters claiming benefits in both countries but it is the responsability of countries to make sure there is no possibility of abusing their system, fraudsters are everywhere in the world and if countries do not establish strict rules our tax money financing those benefits will always be claimed by fraudsters.

UK, Ireland / The Slavic Tax Thieves Stealing from the UK [29]

Please Hudsonhicks spare us your acrimony about Poles claiming benefits in Britain, as Europeans they are entitled to exactly what anybody else in Europe is entitled to regarding social benefits anywere in Europe.

You can come and move to Poland with your family, work ,live and do the same as a European citizen and the fact that you would get less money than what Poles get in the UK shows that Polish migrants are smart and pick up places with more economic opportunities.

That's what people and their families do Hudsonhicks, they go to where the grass is greener and cannot be blamed for that.

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

Wow excellent, your house will be paid off next year ?
When you say that you and your wife had no holiday for 6 years because of your house you mean no holiday at all for 6 years ?!!!

you mean no holiday abroad or you mean you had to work every single day ?
I think that the only people who work 7 days out of 7 are farmers, anyway you both were very brave.

News / Poland a top pot producer? Legalization? [30]

Wanda Nowicka said: “Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes…”
Do you agree with this line of reasoning?

For me the only point of legalizing pot is to prevent or stop Drug Dealers. In the The Netherlands where pot is legal or in Switzerland Zurich there is less criminality liked to drug dealing than in the UK, US, France Germany etc

However what is scary now in the Euro zone is that because of the drop of the US dollar $ versus the € euro, some people are buying hard drugs like cocaine or heroin because the prices dropped.

In Poland i don't know what the situation is regarding to soft or hard drugs and where people buy them , all i can see are some drunkards everywhere on the streets day and night and without doubt alcool addiction is a real pest in Poland.

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

You can't compare the two - Krakow doesn't have the same problems that Berlin has. Young people in Poland often move to Krakow to work - with Berlin, they move away.

OK Delphi but i could also have said that Krakow is more expensive than Montpellier,France or Firenze, Italy ,Budapest ,Prague.
I understand the attraction of Krakow and young people moving in for their studies but it is not that economically dynamic compared to Warsaw, it would be interesting to compare the Warsowian and Krakowians 'income and the city of Krakow is also in huge deficit.

So we hunkered down and took a bit longer to build. For me banks are simply usurers.

Typically Commercial Banks( not brokers ) that provide mortgages will ask that you "domiciliate" your salaries in the bank which issued you the home mortgage and push you to leave your regular bank ! That' s how they get new customers .( you speak about beeing morally wrong but i have never heard of a bank beeing morally right, they are all greedy )

So teflcat what did you do ? Where did you get your mortgage ?

Real Estate / Banks in Poland selling fewer mortgages in 2011, down 49% [285]

just heard on TV Polonia that real estate will fall by 50%!!!!..

PF members who still believe there won't be any Real Estate crash in Poland have not watched this programm.
The prices for Real Estate in Poland has increased in a surrealistic way in some regions for 4 years and for instance Krakow is more expensive than Berlin when salaries in Germany are at least twice as high as in Krakow

If banks don't lend anymore, new developments are sitting unsold and empty, it does not look good for clients exept for those who have cash and will be able to get great bargains.

News / Gap is setting up shop in Arkadia in Warsaw [20]

I remember when C&A first came to Warsaw and I kept seeing people turning up to things wearing near identical clothes.

I heard some Germans call C&A "Cheap & Awful" , i agree with PIP that Gap will be doing very well, i v noticed that city Poles especially young and old women spend a lot of money on clothes , shoes, cosmetics, hairdos, they seem to dress up even to take their dogs out.

Poles in general are elegant even over the week end.

News / Gap is setting up shop in Arkadia in Warsaw [20]

Merged: GAP store opening in Warsaw

Just read that a new GAP store is opening in Warsaw(Arkadia center) ,i found it interesting because Gap is no longer doing very well in the US but apparently after the conducted market research it should be very successful in Poland.

I believe Gap will be doing fine with the GAP kids branch because Children' clothing stores in Poland are no longer that great and they are as expensive if not more than Gap ( ex: 5,10,15/ Crocodillus )

News / Damien Perquis Football player granted Polish citizenship insulted by the PIS ? [30]

Damien Perquis is launching a legal action against Jan Tomaswewski , hopefully Tomaswewski should pay a huge fine and make a public apology for his kind statements in the Sports world and before the cup in Poland.

"How can he pull on the White Eagle shirt, the one in which we true Poles won honours. A piece of French trash, of footballing trash, who never made his mark at home," Tomaszewski said."

What would this Jan Tomaszewski think if Polish Football players in France in Germany etc were publicly insulted this way and called "piece of Polish trash?"

Real Estate / Demand for apartments low in Poland's main cities [89]

Bubble in Spain, Bubble in Florida,Bubble in China, Bubble in Ireland, and now Bubble in Poland.
Less than 3 months ago we had a debate on PF about Polish Real Estate falling down and i with some others had the same opinion this article is reflecting now in October 2011.

If thousands of newly built flats are sitting empty in Poland the bubble will burst in less than 2 years.

UK, Ireland / Business process outsourcing in the UK. [14]

the BIC(Brazil, India, China) area is getting a lot of outsourcing and a huge growth, however Poland is renowned for it excellent workforce and skilled professionals in many fields such as HiTech but also the absence of labour laws for manual workers( We can see construction workers on building roofs without any security, crazy) ,the cheaper costs of labour( and no strikes) encourages companies to set up plants and invest a lot in what they call "the new Europe".

News / Palikot or the Poles getting rid of the Polish society old Taboos in 2011? [30]

A Taboo beeing a a strong social prohibition (or ban) relating to any area of human activity or social custom that is sacred and forbidden based on moral judgment and religious beliefs, one can say that with 10% voters in favour of Palikot in 2011, Poles are getting rid or at least challenging the old taboos of Polish Society which are so far:

1) Refusal of Public funding for the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and henceworth challenging its omnipresent place in the society
2) Equality in terms of salaries between men and women
3)Freedom in sexual orientation(gay friendly) and transgender
4)Same- sex marriages

What else?
Is there any other taboo you can think of in Polish society?

In otherwords Poland is becoming as tolerant as Spain or the UK but given its History it is a new Revolution for Poland.

Law / Polish Citizenship, do I have to travel to Warszawa (Warsaw) to get it? [13]

(the blood line counts, not the place of birth)

Is that true ? then in this case it is a bit stupid, reminds me of the old German way: Germany changed that rule but before they used to have the "blood right" rather than the "land right" which granted a German person who had never set foot in Germany and hardly spoke good German German nationality if his ancestors were german by blood whereas someone whose both parents were English or rather Turkish but born in Germany was not granted German nationality if his/her parents did not have German blood.

News / Will you be proud of tranny (transsexual) representing Poland ? [124]

will you be proud of "Anna" when "she" will be representing Poland in Russia, US or UK ?

If Anna is a good politician i don't see why Poland should not be proud of her work. Why not?

Israel won the Eurovision contest with the transsexual artist Sharon Cohen -Dana international , most countries voted for this excellent singer andi don't think any one was ashamed of her performance.[b]

News / Poland Elections oct 2011/your feed back about RP Janusz Palikot? Poland is changing! [106]

rather to finance a lot of socially useful projects, and it is not as if the Church was getting some monies for free,

Do you agree that Poland beeing a secular Republic public funds and tax money should not go to any Religious group in Poland?
Only church goers in Poland and the Vatican and the wealthy Roman Catholic Church should pay for that , it has to be paid privately.

News / Poland Elections oct 2011/your feed back about RP Janusz Palikot? Poland is changing! [106]

The idiocy of saying that Poland is changing because 'one man and his dildo' champions certain causes is staggering.

Well Seanus I may be an idiot but if the existence itself of a party such as the RCC( i am not saying those people would have any chance to rule the country of course but as a counter power ,it is not bad) is not a change for Poland what is it then?

News / Poland Elections oct 2011/your feed back about RP Janusz Palikot? Poland is changing! [106]

Hi all,
I have the feeling that after the re election of Dnoland tusk (PO) and with the arrival of the RP party Janusz Palikot denouncing the church "mafia" and defending the rights about sexual and ethnic minority groups, Poland is politically changing fast.

I am personnaly happy about this change although i do not vote in Poland, what's your feed back about the PR?

Study / Eastern European Studies internship/ job [10]

I think that it should not be a problem to find an intership in Poland as an American student for instance in Hotels (Krakow, Warsaw) .You could either send your CV and resume to Hotel Groups in the US such as Radisson,Sheraton,Starwwood hotels etc or directly at the hotels in Poland .

Be aware that there is a big competition among students for those interships because in many european countries students have to do a 1 year intership as part of their studies ( 1 year abroad after a 2 years studying Business).

Basically they get "free workers" who on top are young and hard working so there should be plenty of opportunities .

UK, Ireland / Culture shock (my neighbours in the UK are Polish and Slovak) [88]

When we moved in our neighbours, who do not speak English well, insisted on helping and I mean insisted and then charged us,

I hope you did not give them anything because HELP is a universal concept in any language and any culture and it is FREE of any charge.

As for the "OK" reply to your" nice to meet you" just take it as a deficit in language skills rather than a lack of good manners because their level of English must be really low .

In anycase regarding the guy who asked or rather demanded "give me a cigarette" : this is abrupt and impolite, He should have said please/ prosze, if he is Polish he is rude by Polish standards or by any standard.
