Life / As a black gay man (US) visiting Warsaw this summer, will I get beat up for nothing? [65]

Because Krystian is black, gay and in Poland and the poster asked what happens to black, gay men in Poland. Did you read the title of this thread?

Let's compare Krystian to OP:
I he an American? Nope.
Is he black? Well... Sort of black. Not really.
Is he gay? As hell.

Only 1 of 3 requirements for being beat up for no reason are met.
Therefore I declare this argument invalid.

BTW. It makes me think about a certain profile that would ensure the beating in Poland.
My proposition: Black-Jewish, openly gay, wearing Nazi helmet in public and sreaming "Jan Paweł drugi - chuj!".
Yep. That would do.

News / Anti semtism at Polish Congress [57]

Well - correct me if I am wrong, but if that is truth that 1/3 of the Polish government are Jews (as stated in the first post), the this is a final proof that Polish are definitely not so anti-Semites as we are told.

I mean - would an nation of supposed Jew-haters vote for Jews?

"As a black gay man (US) visiting Warsaw this summer, will I get beat up for nothing?"

Of course you wouldn't get beat up for nothing.
What do you think? That we are savages or something?
Attacking people for no reason is not part of our culture!
We don't beat up people without a good reason.

I your case - you will be beaten up for being black, American, gay man. That's definitely not "nothing" as you kindly described it.

:-P

Seriously though. It may be shock for you but there are Americans living in Poland. And gays. And black people. If you would look for hard enough you may even find a black American gay living in Poland in perfect harmony. :-) You're not so special.

If you are "openly gay" - I mean if you are one of these gays walking the street and screaming "Look how wonderfully gay I am!" (kind of Bruno character.) - you probably would be ridiculed and ignored in a cold Polish way. That's it.

You may even be mugged or attacked - you know - in the usual way like in every other city in the world. Just try not to be "in the wrong place and in the wrong time" if you know what I mean.

Calm down, be happy and good luck with your holidays in Poland. :)

News / "Shale Gas Revolution" will make Poland a Leading Country in Europe! [202]

I'm a geologist from the U.S. who has started traveling back and forth to Poland to help in drilling the first wells to tap into Poland's vast shale gas reserve.

Shale gas extracting facilities in Europe - ZERO. None. Null.

This is all I have to say about this matter. It's a myth.
And it's been used in the political warfare in Poland for at least three years.

Love / 12 years of marriage my Polish wife still doubts me [74]

Poor, poor guy.

I am Polish myself, and I would love to help you.
But I'm afraid it's pointless. If you didn't understand the nature of Polish (especially Polish women) in 12 years of your marriage - you wouldn't understand it now. On the PF. And probably - you wouldn't like my answers...

Keep calm, good man. Be like ice.

Life / Differences in Polish, American and British mentality [237]

Communists robbed all Poles!!! your money your health, freedom to hurt them was something good why is it so hard for you to see that?

Exactly. And your father was one of them. He escaped the commie paradise like a rat from sunken ship.
It's your and your father's problem. Not ours.

Just cut down the "Brave freedom fighters escaped Poland while the collaborators stays" - story? OK?

Life / Differences in Polish, American and British mentality [237]

Any time you hurt a communist or a communist government it's something to be proud of

You dad has served them for the decades. Are you proud of this as well?

In 1989 a lot of party members an collaborators escaped to the West. They know that in free Poland they would be held responsible for their doings. Some of them pretended to be a freedom-fighters and Solidarność members and applied for a political asylum.

But the true is - in 1989, when the Solidarność won the elections - there was no reason for patriots to escape. The patriots were freed from the prisons and started to build a new free Poland. But the commies and collaborators have got every reason to be afraid.

Life / Differences in Polish, American and British mentality [237]

I know the realities. And I am not saying that the "party loyalist" has to be incompetent. On the contrary - he has to be competent, well educated AND loyal. Especially if working in the factory that was important from the military point of view.

are you sure? can you elaborate?
Does it mean that in PRL there were uneployed engineers?

It was called a "wilczy bilet" (wolf's ticket - I don't know why they call it that way). If you get it - the only job available would be an odd, manual jobs. Regardles of the university degree.

Life / Differences in Polish, American and British mentality [237]

what is wrong with you, why are you assuming that Penn is lying? what is so unbelievable about an educated and experienced guy being promoted to a manager? or what is so despicable about a father who got a promotion and provide for his family? You have no right of judging people you never met and have no idea about their circumstances.

I don't think that the PeennyBoy is lying.
I think that he just believes in the story that his father has told him.
There are a lot of older-generation Poles who insisted that they made their carrier on the basis of the professionalism and the education. Some of them even trying to convince themselves that they were freedom fighters actually.

Now let's talk about the realities of the People's Republic of Poland.
Wast majority of factories, shops etc were owned by the State. In every factory there was an official Party cell. The party was paranoid, the didn't trust anyone, even themselves. Every employee was constantly observed and checked. Every promotion (even to the level of mere shoe factory foreman) has to be approved by the Party cell. And only trusted people get green light.

To be "trusted" one have to prove themselves as a loyal Comrade. Being neutral and keeping the head down was not enough.
How can one prove himself worthy? In two ways. First - the obvious was to become a Party member or a member of various pro-Party organisations. And by being an active member.

Other way was to work "undercover". The Party needs a spies in every factory. Their role was to listen to the people talking and report.

This is an average factory.

In the military factory - there was absolutely, totally no way for somebody who was not willing to collaborate to get a job. Even as a floor sweeper.

It could be a good, interesting and entertaining discussion.
But it wont. Because this is a PF, dammit - that's why the topic would be as usual:
"Who is the biggest moron and why?"

Sometimes I fell sorry.

Life / Strange laws in Poland [39]

Agreed, except the part above - of course there are local regulations, but maybe not going as far as death penalty or generally criminal law

Local regulation are not considered "Law". You can't be charged and sentenced on the basis of local regulations.

Life / Strange laws in Poland [39]

Nah. Poland is not the US. We haven't got any local or town laws. Also - there is no death penalty in Polish law.

In this case the guy would be charged for indecent behaviour in public an/or for breeching tha Animal Cruelty Act. And of course would be laugh upon for the rest of his life. :)

UK, Ireland / UK: How to create a perfect scapegoat? [54]

nah, your way down the scale mate.......starts at dark brown in shemaghs and slides down the degrees of islam first....

I wouldn't be so sure. Attacking them would be racist, wouldn't it?
Attacking us is much safer.
Last week two polish guys were deliberately run-over by a car on the pavement.
Few weeks ago three Polish families home were set on fire.
Cars with the Polish plates are destroyed almost everyday.
Polish guy was stabbed to death on the tube station.
It's the beginning.

The ground for attack Poles is already prepared. That's why there are a lot of articles like the one quoted in the first post.

Have you ever read article about "Bloody Somalians living on the benefit, stealing jobs, hunting swans and having a knife culture"? I don't.

History / Shafting The Poles - article by Ralph Peters NYP [17]

The decisive turning point in the West's long struggle against Islamic conquerors came on the afternoon of Sept. 12, 1683, during the last Turkish siege of Vienna. Severely outnumbered Polish hussars - the finest cavalry Europe ever produced - charged into the massed Ottoman ranks with lowered lances and a wild battle cry.

UK, Ireland / UK: How to create a perfect scapegoat? [54]

What amazed me at first when I come to live in the UK is the impression that this is a country under the occupation by the foreign power. It seems that the every aspect of "britishness" is targeted and destroyed. Slowly, but systematically.

The children are told that the British Empire was entirely evil an that they shall be ashamed of it.
Famous red Routemasters in London were scrapped. Red phone boxes replaced with the new non-descript design. Old guys from the British Legion were told to better be quiet and to not sing their "silly" patriotic songs publicly. Even the St George flag has become "hot and controversial topic". In England!

I agree - these are just symbols. But on the other hand - symbols are the grid on which the national identity is build.

Another shock for a newly arrived guy like me: handouts. Numerous benefits offered to us. Believe it or not but this aspect of life in the UK was a total shock for us - Polish guys. Nobody expected this. And nobody asked for that kind of treatment.

But then I met a guy from Albania. He told me that he is NOT ALLOWED to work and support himself while his asylum application is being reviewed. (for 3 years). 3 years of holidays paid by the taxpayer.

Then I learned that the asylum seekers have got a privileged position over the natives. They are first in the queue to receive council houses etc.

At this point I started to asking myself "Why the British government hates their own people? What kind of madness is that?"

I think I found the answer.

It's about power and power only. New Labour has constructed system where the government is in total control of people's lives. First they rob people of their money. Then they give it back.

The people are told: "Look - 30% of your income are benefits. You will not survive without our help. We will take care of you - just vote for us". I know this well from People's Republic of Poland.

Mr Cameron is trying to disassemble this system. This is a huge mistake. I think the Labour would win the next election and will rule for ever.

Of course - even the "commies" from New Labour knows that the economy has its rights and that the crisis in this system is unavoidable. I mean real crisis - when the bread become luxury. They know that the people will be angry at them.

That's why they need a scapegoat. And we Polish are perfect target.
Although we are just a drop in this deluge of immigrants - we are the one being deliberately targeted.
I am sure that when the time will come - the people wraith will be directed at us.
We will pay the price.

Why do you think the British government doing this to this country? There has to be some logic reason behind this.

Life / 'Whites only' nightclubs in Warsaw? [51]

I did read this article. I also read the original report.
The blacks were allowed entry in some places while the Poles were not!
In other places it was other way around.

It seems that the Poles are not only an "average racists".

They are Super racists! They discriminate EVERYONE!

No matter if you are white or black - sometime the won't let you into the place!

Outrrrrage!

(I admit, I intentionally decided not to mention the Jews. Don't even start this with me.)

I am not talking about medical issues here. I believe that no matter if someone is a a payer to the system or not - he (or she) shall receive free medical treatment to save his life. Why? Because this is Europe. No mater if we are talking about Poland, UK or any other part of the Europe - this is civilised land and we have got obligations to save human in danger of death.

Child Benefit is a quite different matter. Nobody forced this theoretical Polish family to live in the UK. It was their choice. It is their own risk they freely taken upon themselves. They have got their own country to come back if their are unable to support their own child in the UK.

enkidu:
I would go one step forward - only the British citizens (or subjects lol) shall be entitled to receive the British benefits.

I wouldn't go that far but it should be based on what has been paid in.

Why? I certainly would go as far. And I am an immigrant. Every immigrant has got a right to apply for the British citizenship after 5 years of living here, paying a taxes and contributing to the community.

If someone would do this and additionally if he would respect the tradition of this land, learn English, show real commitment to the Queen and "britishness" - he would become a British subject.

At this point he shall be entitled to every benefit and help that this island may offer.

Of course - this wouldn't be quite fair if you consider the native British. They, and their fathers and theirs grandfathers has contributed a lot to the well-being of this country. Comparing to this - 5 years of paying taxes by the immigrant is nothing.

Nonetheless - this is more fair than the current state of matters.

As I said before - Only the British citizens shall be entitled to receive the British benefits.

To answer the question that may arise - No, I have got no plan of becoming a British citizen. I respect this country, I live here, but I am Polish. I was born this way and I will die as such. I decided to start my new life on this island. This was my personal choice and my personal risk. I do not expect the British taxpayer to pay a bill for that.

UK, Ireland / UK: How to create a perfect scapegoat? [54]

one of the conditions Poland imposes on EU nationals

Frankly - it's a law in the UK too. It was agreed that the rights are exactly the same for the EU nationals in Poland and the Polish people living in the EU.

Basically - as a Polish national I have got a right to live and work in the UK under the condition that I can support myself and my family. If I fail this - I can be legally deported. That is what Polish EU access treaty says.

I would call this a fair deal.
Very fair indeed.
That's why I came to this country. For a hard job that is well paid. To make my life better.
I have never apply for any benefit and never get one. And I am proud of this.

Of course this is only theory, because for some reason I don't understand, this law is not enforced in the UK. And this is pure madness. For some reason the UK government decided to support a numerous Polish immigrants that are unable or unwilling to work hard for themselves. I don't even blame these people. The "free" money has been offered to them. So they took it.

And I don't blame the Polish government for enforcing the law properly on the Polish soil.
The only to blame is the UK politicians that are so soft and "culturally aware" for the needs of the minorities that they actually betrayed their own people!

Forgive me, I am just a poor immigrant trying hard to understand this country, but I don't understand why the British government hates so much the British people?

Good lesson:
express.co.uk/posts/view/232505/-250-a-week-for-every-migrant

Average reader's impression:
A 100000 Poles will get a £250 a week. The UK would lost is £25000000 weekly. And £1300000000 yearly!
Outrage! They are robbing us! This evil EU ruling has to be stopped! Arrrgggghhhh!

Actual information: Before any citizen of the "new UE country" can claim any benefit in the UK, she or he is expected to work legally for a certain period of time. This period is now shortened from 12 months to 3 months.

That's all.

Thats the issue here, most Poles will think why go to a bar and spend x amount on beer or vodka when its so much cheaper to drink at home.

An then head to the pub to pick up a girl or at least a good fight.
I am Polish and I know what I am talking about.

Dear pub owner - looking for trouble?
Throw a "Polish Party"
Don't forget to invite some Albanians (just for extra spice). lol

News / Lech Kaczyński statue in Warsaw? [66]

This is a hard task to project a monument for somebody whose greatest achievement in Poland is a sudden death in the plane crash. But some projects exist.
