UK, Ireland / Polish migrants fight to sleep in toilets overnight in London [11]

a couple of homeless guys sleeping in a toilet - untolerable

Did you read the article? These weren't homeless guys, these were people actively using the public conveniences as a home because it was cheaper than rent. They had tools and were clearly workmen, so if anything, you could say that they were taking away warm sleeping accommodation from those that truly needed it.

you should be proud of yourself

I'm very proud of myself.

Twenty pence to take a leak in central London?!

I find it to be rather offensive that they were abusing the good will of their host country by sleeping there. Public conveniences are hard enough to find in the UK, and for them to use them as cheap overnight accommodation is just beyond the pale.

UK, Ireland / Polish migrants fight to sleep in toilets overnight in London [11]

A rather hilarious story from the Evening Standard in London. It concerns Polish migrants in London, who were brawling amongst themselves to get the right to sleep in a toilet overnight for 20p.

From about 10.30pm you can see people fighting over the best cubicles. You can see cardboard on the floor in the morning where they have been making their bed. Every morning the cleaners have to try and drag them out...Some of them are clearly Polish builders

standard.co.uk/news/the-superloo-where-polish-migrants-are-fighting-to-spend-the-night-for-20p-7202318.html

Does anyone know how this problem was solved, or if it was solved at all? Are they still sleeping there? What about in other cities? And what are good honest British citizens supposed to do when they need the toilet and it's occupied by some hairy Polish builder?

Obviously the Polish proclivity for spending time in toilets as cleaners in the UK meant that the idea of sleeping in toilets was a natural progression for them.

Study / Young Nigerian Sets Record in Polish University [75]

What's up here?

I wondered the same, actually. Could it be that they count grades differently there, and that each subject is worth x.y% of the final grade? I had something similar with one class at UAM a few years ago - each piece of work was worth a small percent of the final overall grade for the class, so as the semester progressed, so did your grade.

Study / Young Nigerian Sets Record in Polish University [75]

A nice story here:

vanguardngr.com/2017/06/20-yr-old-oluwasona-sets-record-graduates-5-0-cgpa-poland

The intellectual might of Nigerian students was shown by young Mr. Oluwasona, who set a record at the University of Computer Sciences and Skills in Łódź. To gain such an overall grade requires plenty of hard work and study, and Mr. Oluwasona should be proud of his efforts.

The Examination Committee was so impressed, and that earned me the 5.0 CGPA/overall grade, which was acclaimed to be the highest in the whole school during the year'.

With grades like this, there is an excellent reason to encourage more African students to Poland, who can then join our workforce and became embedded into Polish society. This news will no doubt encourage plenty of other students to complete their studies in Poland, and the Polish government has an open door policy towards them and many others. I know several Nigerians in Poland, all of whom have started families here and are fully integrated into Polish society.

Polonia / Half-Polish Terrorist attack on the Champs-Elysses [55]

I have only protested against 'Polish roots' as he never been in Poland and Islam has nothing to do with Polish culture.

I mean, you're welcome to disown him as Polish. I would as well in your position.

Polonia / Half-Polish Terrorist attack on the Champs-Elysses [55]

Stop babbling and post the link.

So a link to a random website is all the proof he has. Meanwhile, one of the media outlets controlled by the Polish government confirmed that he was born to a Polish mother.

I wonder why gregy is trying to claim that the government is lying.

News / Thousands of teachers to lose their jobs in Poland [57]

We want to step away from common education methods that are all about taking tests."

Which is quite strange, given that their plan for the 8th class exam is to have one big exam that will effectively determine the future of children.

We shouldn't kid ourselves, this is a simple and straight return to the PRL system. Amusing to watch people defend the Communist system of education over the pre-war system, though.

News / Thousands of teachers to lose their jobs in Poland [57]

never heard of it - do you have some official source on that?

It was all published a while ago. I'm sure you can find it on the MEN site - the key point was less hours, less science and more history.

how do you know it was the old model that was failing btw?

Numbers don't lie. More to the point, why would anyone want to return to the PRL system when you could have the excellent pre-war system instead?

Dirty tricks and propaganda in short commie BS.

It's really a shame that you're so blinded by ideology that you're willing to lie through your teeth just for the sake of said ideology.

I know 4 teachers that have lost their jobs as a result of the deform. Consider this an open invitation to come and tell them that they're just "school administration".

Polonia / Half-Polish Terrorist attack on the Champs-Elysses [55]

Isn't it strange that the PiS-controlled wPolityce confirmed otherwise?

wpolityce.pl/swiat/344994-matka-zamachowca-z-paryza-jest-polka-policjanci-z-francji-i-tunezji-potwierdzaja-pochodzenie-sprawcy-ataku

Matka zamachowca z Paryża jest Polką.

Or for our non-Polish speaking members:

Mother of the bomber from Paris is Polish.

I wonder why you're spreading lies that are even contradicted by government-controlled media.

enough to say, that this story was fabricated and spread across internet by libtards.

As we can see, it was spread by rightards.

Language / Poles struggle with English vowels [42]

Absolutely and totally insane, I agree. It doesn't cost anything to give them the extra language, and let's say in your case that you want to learn Slovak - you'd be able to pick it up incredibly quickly. A lot of it is just stupid snobbery by people who think that Polish is "beneath them" because they moved to the big city.

Plenty of other people in your position can't speak a word of it, having brought up solely in "Anglo-jabber" as Polly would call it.

How about you, WP? Do you have any problems with pronunciation as a Polish speaker that has never lived in Poland?

News / Thousands of teachers to lose their jobs in Poland [57]

A Pole hating patriot.

Quite common story, it seems. Many good teachers will be losing their jobs, while young teachers are also leaving to move into the corporate world simply because there's no guarantee that the profession won't become highly politicised.

They are PO voters anyway. Redundant pen-pusher in a school administration not teachers.

Really shows how little you care about Polish families, doesn't it? Of course, your hatred of teachers is nothing new on here.

Quite the opposite those reforms are supported by the majority.

Anything to be contrary, eh Ironside?

CBOS themselves found that 60% of voters want a referendum on the matter. That clearly means that the majority want to have their say on the matter, and now they're going to be denied that say.

Yes, which is why nearly a million Poles signed a petition asking for a referendum on the reforms.

Clearly Szydło (who promised to listen to Poles) has no interest in listening to the people.

By the way, two separate polls on the issue have confirmed that around 60% of Poles want a referendum on the matter, while only 30% don't want one. No doubt plenty of angry parents and their childrne will represent a significant electoral bloc next year.

News / Opole townsfolk outraged by mayor's destruction of their song festival [137]

but was forced back to the bargaining table

Forced? He got TVP to agree to the integrity of the Song Festival, which is all that Opole wanted from the beginning. Now that it's been agreed that TVP will not impose censorship or blacklists, Opole can go ahead with the festival, which is what the original problem was about.

By the way, PiS only have three councillors in Opole. I very much doubt those three were able to place much pressure on him.

Polonia / Who still speaks pidigin Polish after many years in the country? [59]

You're the big e-gadgetarian. I' m sure YouTube must have some sites showing native speakers pronouncing different Polish sounds.

I can hear them, but reproducing the difference accurately and consistently is an issue. It's the whole fluency/accuracy debate, but I'm of the opinion that it's not something that even native speakers are concerned about in speech. Of course, getting it wrong in writing is a far worse crime.

It's because you don't speak Polish (regardless of the lie you wrote in your profile) and can hardly even distinguish "cz" sound from "ci/ć" sound.

Of course, of course. Keep telling yourself that, durny.

Cz is close to the ch in chat, whislt there is no easy way of popularly rendering ć.

With ć, I think it's easiest simply to treat it like cz. It's not correct of course, but I don't think it really affects the intelligibility of the word in question, especially as ć is usually word-final.

Would be interesting to examine the speech of those who acquired Polish as a second language from a non-Slavic country to see if anyone is able to produce ć consistently.

Polonia / Half-Polish Terrorist attack on the Champs-Elysses [55]

Haven't seen this reported anywhere. Yesterday, a man deliberately drove his car into a police car on the Champs-Elysees while heavily armed. Today, it was revealed that the attacker was half Polish - born to a Polish mother in France.

thenews.pl/1/10/Artykul/312550,ChampsElysees-attacker-%E2%80%98had-Polish-roots%E2%80%99-report

It's clear that the hostile attitude towards the West in Poland has resulted in this attack.

Study / British Council CELTA in Krakow, how would you rate it? [60]

This could very well be true.

Yes, anyone familiar with these courses know that it's very hard going. 30 contact hours a week, a lot of homework and reading and a lot of unfamiliar terminology thrown at learners as an "introduction" is not easy, even for the experienced.

Those not familiar with the courses are far more likely to believe the nonsense they read online.
