Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

Yup, simple statistics. Loving and responsible parents seem to produce better adjusted children than just those who are married. We could take a look at something like Scandinavian countries vs. say the Caribbean. I don't think that it's as easy as saying that marriage equals better chances of having a well adjusted kid.

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

Children born in wedlock have a better chance of a happy life. So, why not go for the best option?

Children born to loving responsible parents have a better chance at a happy life, regardless of marital status. I think cause and effect might be getting mixed up.

Love / Are there Polish women who date black guys? [281]

I guess it's because you are racist. Might as well wear that badge in public so that people that don't think the same way can avoid you. I wonder if that feeling comes from Poles being considered to be on the lower end of the social ladder and therefore needing to feel superior in some way? Strange world.

News / Coach crash in Germany. Polish coach... many dead [26]

Just saw a piece on ZDF...Some interesting comments. German rescue worker talking about saddness for the tragedy that took so many lives of our Polish neighbors. Tusk looking visably shaken thanking the work of the first responders (in German, which isn't too shabby by the way), and the TV remind us that it's a time of mourning for Poles and Germans alike. Tragedy is tragedy.

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

On the other hand, it's a relatively new phenomena that people are marrying out of love for one another.Marriage is an archaic carryover from a time when such contracts were needed for society at the time.

To all, this thread has been cleaned because some members can't stop using personal insults. Please refrain from doing so as you will risk an instant suspension next time.

News / Poland could emerge as new European and world power. If? [116]

Give Portugal, Serbia, Greece, Denmark, POLAND, etc 200 million people and you have a world power trust me. Especially a nation like Poland which has sufferred partly because it was attacked by nations with bigger populations. Especially nations with bigger populations COLLABORATION TOGETHER against Poland......but that's a story for another day.

Then you have Nigeria. The days of large scale conventional warfare in Europe are over.

Do you know that Iran in 1980 only had 22 million people? Do you know today Iran has about 72 million people with an average age population of about 27? That's half the reason why it starting to have the human resources to be able to make bigger and better bombs. Iranians also has a lot of European blood in them.

Israel, UAE, Qatar...those countries have quite a bit of weight that their slinging around. It's not population that's important, it's what you do with your resources. Stable population + Efficient use of resources = Superpower. Exploding populations means social problems unless you also have growth. Iran was a regional power before the population explosion, and would probably already have the bomb had the revolution not happened.

Life / How to Politely Refuse a Drink in Poland [72]

I heard that also in some US sates you can drive with such amount of alcohol in blood. Oh Mr Tygrys, do you still say that in USA matter of drunk drivers is taken seriously?

I think there are two major differences between the states and here. The first big difference is that the police presence on the roads in the US is much heavier. Feels like a police state, but that's a different story. I think there is more of a worry of getting caught in the US.

Second, if you blow over in Poland, and you're not completely wasted, it can be sorted out immediately. That's second hand information, but I have personal experience with "spot fines".

I think when you mix those two it tends to make it not be too serious over here. Just my opinion, but it isn't that far fetched.

News / €11,700 to every migrant returning to the Polish capital and starting a business there. [110]

Lowering business taxation for new start up business' in Poland. Not forever but for enough time for them to become competitive.

That's a good start.

I wouldn't start a gyros place, I can tell you that much :)

I'm doing what I do, and it's working out. But considering the cheap labor here, why not manufacture something with high margins? Turbine blades for instance :)

Kinda reminds me of what happend in the baltics with the bank loans. Everybody was happy to get a beneficial loan from the new banks that started to expand aggressively in the area. They started to buy buy themselfs new cars, expensive flats and many entrepreneurs started to build huge properties that they were gonna sell when completed. The banks even went so far to introduce creditcards for children...

Absolutely, if you want to make a boatload of money, go to the countries where the credit wave is first starting to roll over. Credit = 10 years of wealth introduced at once.

But giving away money is just a bad idea - I know from Poznan alone, many of the businesses started with government cash are run by people without a clue.

The problem is that it creates short term growth, people are employed...only until the handouts end. Poland needs stable long term growth through good ideas, not charity.

Life / How to Politely Refuse a Drink in Poland [72]

Do you know such person convex? I don't like when people spread legends about "polish alcoholism"...

Yes, just particularly in the countryside where there are no night buses or cheap taxis to catch. Check out the statistics on road deaths in Poland (#1 in the EU!), how many of the drivers were under the influence.

I think they will have some contracts/rules that will make sure that the money will come into right use. But yes i guess some people will take advantage of it in a "wrong" way. But hey!! Rules Are Meant To Be Broken right!!!??? ;)

The SME incubators here fund some of the most retarded ideas that I've ever seen. It's bad, really bad.

You'll look responsible and anyone that would challenge you further would look irresponsible.

haha, that doesn't work here :)

Anyway, your best bet would be to send me a PM when you'll be around, and I will solve your problem for you.

I fall into the Jesus camp,IMO religion is very good for giving younger children the foundation for what is right and what is wrong. The vast majority of parents have good intentions, but somehow with all the good intentions there is still the rising crime.
At least we found a home in business studies.

Teach the silver rule, then right and wrong is taken care of. Religion introduces too many illogical concepts that don't help in refining the decision making process...Especially when you start reading around in the old testament...

i like this picture and feel real joy being aware that mega trends in Europe and world push things in that direction

I think Germans would support you in this as well...nearly doubling the size of the country.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

Keeping with restaurants Novocaine in Wroclaw Rynek does a storming trade and rightly so those pizzas are amazing. Straight outta Rome.

It seems like there is some sort of aversion to actually seasoning or marinating the meat. Even the factory made minced meat skewers are all wrong...would it hurt to throw a tomato on the top of the skewer to keep from feeling like you're eating cardboard?

Novocaina is awesome. The interior is amazing as well....but, with that location and the money they dumped into it, the only thing keeping it above water is the club. I think without that cash cow underneath it, they would have long since closed up shop.

A good English pub or fish&chips shop should go over well in Poland. There still aren't that many, are there?

Funny you should mention that. Just on the note of business acumen, there has been a space here (50m2) that has been occupied by five different little eateries over the last two years. Always the same thing, Polish food that doesn't transport very well or gyros. The problem of course, is that there are three other larger gyros places within 25m walking distance. Why on earth would you open another one on a side street? I'm heading down there later to ask the guys who run the place what they're thinking, I can't see it staying around for too long. Even crappy fish and chips would give you some kind of advantage over crappy gyros.

If you do not speak Polish, then you have a communication problem, so expect to pay the premium. IMO it's deeper than that, many non-locals turn up in Poland with the idea of changing Poland from the outside, it is much easier to find your opportunity within.

It's easy, either import an idea or better business/marketing practices, that buys you a bit of time to learn. Foreigners won't make money here unless they're innovative enough to offset their competitive disadvantages.

Travel / Flying in Poland information [9]

Poland is a JAA member, same deal applies.

Depends on your hours and ratings. FAA-JAA is much more difficult than the other way around. Basically it looks like this:

For conversion with more than 100 hours tt:

JAA Medical
Sit the Air Law and Human Performance tests
Check flight

You can also validate your FAA license. Same deal, but without the written tests.

You'll be issued a license which is dependent on your FAA ticket being current. Validation is done in each country and is only valid for that country.

I haven't done either, but I know a couple of people who have. If you're interested, just send me a PM and I can put you into contact with people a bit more in the know than me.

Good news is, you can fly in Europe with an N registered plane without any restrictions or validation. There are quite a few in Western Europe, not so much joy here or further East.

If you're planning on staying for a longer period of time, there are N reg'd planes for sale, or you can buy and then convert. It was about €3500 for my TB10 (includes a fresh annual).

BTW, if you actually need to go somewhere, expect stuff like this right before you want to leave the house:

EPWR 120930Z 33003KT 270V020 1000 R29/1500 -DZ BR SCT001 BKN003 05/05 Q1019

Yup, nearly noon. Good times.
