Food / Polish Herring Appetizer [21]

Fish sticks aren't my fave. They have this weird, gluey compound in them. Can't stand the texture.

USA, Canada / Differences in How Polish People Raise a Child and How Americans Raise a Child [149]

I've noticed how quick Polish parents here are to take their kids to the doctor for the slightest cough or sneeze;

One thing that drives me crazy is seeing a child outside in twenty degree f weather coughing every two minutes and the parents do nothing, just let them play outside like there's nothing wrong. I wish there were more parents here who would take their kids to the doctor when they cough in winter. Kids sound so miserable with a hacking cough! Why on earth would anyone complain?

Food / Polish Herring Appetizer [21]

People criticize herring, and then go eat a big mac at Mcdonalds which is much worse than a meal involving a fish on a cracker.

News / 2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.. [52]

bollocks? uk below czech rep and lithuania? ireland with slovakia, norway, canada and lithuania on the same pleace ... wtf?

This puts things in perspective. Maybe quality of life isn't that great in the UK, compared to Czech Republic which is a beautiful country with the old buildings. It looks like a postcard.

News / 2009 Quality of Life Index: Poland behind Czech, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia.. [52]

There's problems in the US, sure, but, there's plenty of people living high off the hog too, and they make up for everyone who can't get it together and act civilized. More people live high off the hog here than not. Life for the vast majority of Americans is pretty good, if not great.

I don't see China so they must be close to last.

Life / Are Poles winter lovers? [63]

Just get a team of Huskies and mush :)
There's skiiing, too. Snowboarding. Snow Mobiling. Snow Man Building. Snow houses. Ice sculptures. Ice Skating. Snow Ice Cream (tho why would anyone want to eat ice cream in winter?)

I always liked horse drawn sleighs complete with bells.

Life / Are Poles winter lovers? [63]

...those of us with a 4 x 4 with decent tyres on just love to go out and play in the snow...

Four wheel drive makes all the difference. Snow is great. I love the way it covers the ground so the air is so pure because there's nothing in it like dust or mold spores. That's what's so invigorating about it.

yet here in the UK the whole place comes to a stand still with a tiny dusting of snow.

Well, you got to have snow plows, salt, and know how to drive without getting stuck in it. Helps if someone you know has a hydralic pull on the front of their truck.

Life / Are Poles winter lovers? [63]

I love snow. Not so much ice, which we get a lot of, but snow. Looks like the trend is toward snowier winters. I don't mind that. I hope we get even more snow next year than this year. Our side roads never get plowed where I live, just the main ones. We still manage to get thru.

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

A man who really loves a woman will say "If you don't want to have sex with me, that's fine. I love you unconditionally, no matter what."

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

I asked her why she didn’t want to have sex as much as before and her reply was that sex wasn’t an important part of a relationship!! I’m sorry but I was gob smacked at this you see I’ve always been told that its one of the most important parts of it, it is how you show what you feel for the person your with?!

Well, to women, it's more than just sex. Maybe she didn't feel that you really loved her, was just interested in the sexual part of the relationship. Maybe this explains her moodiness. Women want to feel loved first, everything else is second. Her stopping the sex was a way of testing you. If you really loved her, sex wouldn't matter that much. Love and sex are two different things.

News / Freezing weather in Poland, 42 people dead in winter freeze... and no-one cares? [140]

The majority of the victims were homeless men aged 35 to 50 who died of hypothermia while drunk, police said.

That's always a dangerous combination...the frigid night time temperatures and alcohol. You should never drink outside while it's below freezing. It's about to get down to near 0 degrees fahrenheit at night soon and I hope everyone gets indoors. It's nothing to fool around with unless you got a parka, a hat and insulated gloves, not to mention a good pair of insulated boots. Very dangerous temperatures.

USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

Poland doesn't want to lose all their educated people who will then stay illegally in the US.

That's utter nonsense. They will not "lose all their educated people" and, if it were possible, it would say negative things about education in Poland. It is impossible for a country to "lose all their educated people" to another country. People with educations move to places they can use what they have worked hard to earn, whether it be the country they were born in or elsewhere. Many educated can find work in Poland and stay but not everyone can. Should educated people who have worked hard be penalized? Or, should they be free to go to wherever it is they can use their degrees?

History / Life in communism vs democracy in Poland [234]

That is why money is so artifical. Some people believe the barter system should be the only monetary system because it's truer.

It's only worthless if we believe it is. It's artifical, anyway, because we use something that is worthless on it's own to bribe people to do what we want. The cabbage is actually the thing with value, not the money. We need the cabbage to survive.

History / Life in communism vs democracy in Poland [234]

Those pictures tell it all. Poland looks happier now. Let's think about this, though. Don't most places look better now than they used to? Where I live looks a lot better since we got these retailers, and we just got them in the past ten years. We didn't have them before, so, even we look better now than we did just ten years ago.

I did explain my answer. It's true, concepts like "hyperinflation" are used by the "haves" to oppress the "have nots". Money has value as long as people are using it to pay for goods and services.

Have you a link for that?

I can't provide a link to my brain because it isn't online. Think about it. Concepts like "hyperinflation" were invented as roadblocks to oppress people. Observation is enough proof of that!

If people are always spending money, it is never devalued. As long as we are using it to pay for things, it has plenty.

print as much money as we need
During the height of hyperinflation in 1992–1993, the Central Bank actually tried to derail reforms by actively printing money during a period of inflation. After all, the Russian government was short of revenue and was forced to print money to finance its debt. As a result, inflation exploded into hyperinflation, and the Russian economy continued in a serious slump.
Wiki

If everyone did it, maybe there wouldn't be such a thing as "hyperinflation". That concept was invented to derail prosperity among all people.

One way to end crisis: all the nations print as much money as we need and give it to us. If everyone did that, we would all have money and there wouldn't be any resentment or bad feeling between people.

History / Life in communism vs democracy in Poland [234]

Social programs, low crime, no unemployment, free education, free medicare, same standards for all.

The only way it can be truly "free" is if you can motivate people to work without any reward. Is it possible? That's a good question to ask. Will people provide everything for free without demanding payment? Then you can have that communistic state. Dreamers like to say "all for free". There's only one way to have everything truly free. Otherwise, it's taxes that pay for it and the govt that provides it. Is that really "free"?

People have found that money is the best way to motivate others to work, so they use that to get people to do things they hate.

History / Life in communism vs democracy in Poland [234]

Democracy doesn't have a dictator. In communism, you got to have the proletariat dictatorship first, then the communistic state can supposedly be reached where you don't need one. It's supposed to be a proletariat state which sounds good until you got the proletariat all vying for power, trying to knock each other out. Then it sucks.

It's got some things in common with American democracy and the concept of majority rule, or, at least, it was that way with the Bolsheviks.

Food / Polish culinary dislikes [83]

The barbeque slow cooks meat over low heat for a long period of time. The grill cooks meat fast over higher heat.

A sweet potato certainly is similar to potatos. They are roots.

you mean the sort of crunchy/french cake with apple filling like in macdonalds? is that apple pie in the US? i feel sorry for you lot lol.

That's not good apple pie, it's just fast food. The apple pie that has the filling inside the crust, in the pie pan, with crust on top that is baked is really good.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

Keep in mind people in the US eat CATFISH. If you can't find a carp for your Wigilia here, just put a catfish on the table instead. Catfish are easy to find here and are a lot like Carp in many ways.

America is more dangerous...in spots...and if you ever been to Florida, you'd know cars get stolen and shipped off to Latin America.
