Language / may/might (expression) [25]

Może (number 2) is the 3rd person singular of the verb you mentioned moć (on/ona/ono/to może). This word means to be able to.

Darn, I missed that one... good call.

I might not go there today. = Może tam dzisiaj nie pójdę.

Double darn, missed that one too.

word order is my biggest battle right now, but the fight goes on.

I still have a problem with this.
Trying to find out who is doing what to whom, is a pain in the neck.

My Polish grammar still has a lot to be desired.

Language / may/might (expression) [25]

mogę

mogę is different to moźe.
Mogę means "I can" or "I have the ability" or "I am allowed".

For the sake of confusion, I think it's better if you tackle one word at a time.

I have had Polish people tell me of the confusion they had in English with similar sounding words "cat, sat, mat, that, pat" etc...

It's the same for us.

but does the word moźe also mean ' maybe' i suppose the person you are talking to will know which word i mean by the context of the conversation.

Yes, 'moźe' also means 'maybe', 'it's possible', 'may' 'might', 'it could be'. All these mean the same thing.

Language / may/might (expression) [25]

would i use the word ' moc'

"Moc" means 'strength' or 'power', not 'may' or 'might'.
You can use it for physical strength or mental, same as in English, you can even use it to describe strong wodka ;)

'może' is the word I think you are looking for, meaning 'might' or 'may'.

i might not go there today = może pójdę tam dziś.

i may want to see you today = może będęą chciala cie zobaczyć dziś.

you might not like it = może ci się nie spodoba.

Classifieds / Upcoming Festivals in Krakow! [15]

how was it????
was the Muse concert really so great?!

My friends went to see '30 seconds to Mars', (it's your man from the film 'Requiem for a dream') and a load of other bands I'd never heard of but they said it was fantastic.

I must be getting old, they said the bands were more rock not dance, so it's finally back in fashion?

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

and go to every single thread & every single post and click "report" for no reason at all. I'm sure that will get their attention.

I just think this is a good example of why things aren't going your way in business, so I reposted it here.

Can all the Polish that are in my country, please go home and stop making it hard for British children to find work?
You are gutless parasites who can't stand up to your own government.

They had a fantastic time, 45,000 people bopping away to bands I don't know.
Great to see the young'uns enjoying themselves.

History / Pole who burned himself to protest the 1968 Soviet invasion [81]

So, no, I disagree - it isn't about "civilised society".

I agree with your comment.

Walentego Badlaka

Id say it happens in the same rate no matter what country you go to, where ever in the world.

Despite what WildRover was told about burning to death, it must be a nasty affair and as sometimes this was the ONLY means of protest (despite the lack of coverage), if nothing else it is a statement of how desperate people were.

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

This is PF, I thought it was the definition of free speech

Of course it is freedom of speech but freedom isn't free and in order to prevent your freedoms from being taken from you there are certain security measures that need to be enforced, for example not being able to disclose sensitive information.

We’ve had weird, wacky, feisty, bitchy, informed, uninformed, ludicrous, dumb, dumber, petty, pretty in quick succession.

Thank you for a most insightful, however mislead, omnibus.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

too many madmen

she went crazy

Is he mental?

The Gods of the past are today's symptoms.

It seems to me that most of the people in the bible, if they were alive today, would be locked up as nut-cases, hearing voices, seeing visions (or) hallucinating?

A perfect example is how Abraham would have been front page news as the guy who heard voices telling him to kill his son Isaac.

And we would have been shocked but instead it is being taught to children about how to love God.
My point is that religious people like this stuff, after all they are nuts.
Let them have their cross, it could be the next Lourdes or Knock and as far as I can see it makes no difference to the rest of us.

PPP is therefore this theoretical exchange rate that McDonalds have decided is the true value of the Polish economy; 2.13 (or 1 dollar is 2.13 zlotys.)

Thanks for explaining it so clearly.

Big Mac meal is considered a luxury food in Poland, regardless of the quality.

I told some mates here about this, man they cracked up, so do you think that a coke here is considered to be the equivalent of champaign?

If only it were a question I'd've stuck it in to this thread: What's the stupidest question asked about Poland?

America is great at fast food but not even Americans would consider it a luxurious meal in any regard.

News / Newsweek's The World's Best Countries (Poland ranked 29) [128]

I think people in Poland who are so anxious to eat at McDonalds or KFC are the ones that wanna fit in, with that whole western thing, do as they do out west, which isn't of course always the better way, as in this example.

Ah, I wouldn't read too much in to it.
I think some members of society like junk food, sometimes.

Home cooking can be very cheap here and very healthy and tasty and people do not go out to any kind of restaurants much but that is changing.

no. we all are bad in maths ;P

Looks that way alright, at least I am not alone, there are 5..no, no 7 of us here ;P

i mean, who can really eat one pound of french fries with a half pound of meat between 4 buns and a half gallon on soda... ?

Nut what a high standard of living they must have :D :D :D

Average Joe in US can afford to eat 3 big mac meals aday, average Pawel cannot afford one big mac meals a week. Yes, I've been to Poland and I know how poor the people are (no offense there).

There is a Big Mac Index

United States $ 3.57

Poland Zloty $2.4386 People Purchasing Power=2.13

Does that say that Polish People Purchasing Power means they can buy 2.13 more than in the U.S.? Or have I got that arse over elbow?

Luxury food?
It's not really considered 'food', never mind 'luxurious'.
It's fast food for crying out softly, Poland has a huge culinary history with fresh produce sold in markets in almost every town.

I think the fact that an average Joe in the US would eat 3 big mac meals a day, proves the low quality of food and therefore living.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

who wants to litter one of the most expensive (if not the most expensive) streets in Poland with a bunch of protesting grannies? ;)

Why does the picture of a combine harvester going down said street spring to mind? (in a comical way, of course).
No grannies were hurt in the making of this mental image.

State shoul;d be secular and no crosses are supposed to be in front of presidental palace

I agree whole heartily that the state should be secular, I believe Poland has achieved this to a greater degree than Ireland has. But old grannies? let them have their cross, no?

It seems to me that these people fought there whole lives and have plenty of fight left in them and will fight about almost anything that they consider important, so why not just let them have their cross, it doesn't do any real harm does it?

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

because they already took tthe wawel castle

Where'd they take it to? :)

It's in a conservation area, it doesn't have planning permission and additionally isn't located on public property, but rather Presidential property and is located within the so-called security area.

Emmm... So what?
Does any of that actually amount to a hill of beans?
