News / Officials in Poland are hailing an upcoming visit by Donald Trump [720]

That is Serbia.

Yes, America could learn a lot from the Chinese involvement in Serbia. Where America destroys, China creates.

Trump would be well advised to consider the possibility of American companies building infrastructure in Poland on favourable terms.

If, today, NATO's putative right to be a judge of other nations and their governments and to enforce these decisions by way of violence is recognized, this right may tomorrow be directed against any nation in the world, Poland included

Yes, I agree completely. I was never a supporter of the NATO bombing of Serbia, and I had a friend from Belgrade who was devastated by what was happening. I remember her e-mails at the time, telling me that they never, ever thought that the West would attack them.

Poland would be wise to remember that America may be a friend today and an enemy tomorrow.

Its true usa can't stand a large successful block.

It's a huge threat to their interests. China has been making deals with Europe and Russia, and if the EU and Russia can come to a long term, stable agreement (despite America interfering at every step), then the USA will pretty much be very much left out of the world. China already has secured control over much of Africa, too.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

The thing is, almost everyone who faithfully and regularly buys his publications lived in Poland during the PRL years...

Not only them - wyborcza.pl is very popular online among the post-PRL generation. As I recall, it's one of the few profitable paywall sites in Europe.

They don't give that out lightly - it's for the most distinguished Poles.

Yes, exactly. Worth looking at the recipients - these are really the elite of Polish society.

that's why not a single of his 2 dozen or so awards came from poland.

Just a point, but you should have checked this properly.

He's a holder of two important decorations in Poland. He has the Order of the White Eagle (highest and oldest decoration for civilians in Poland) and the Medal for Merit to Culture. There's a picture of him receiving the first one here - pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Michnik#/media/File:Wreczenie_Orderu_Orla_Bia%C5%82ego_2010-11-10_im6.jpg

Can't get any better than that as a civilian in Poland.

These are the privileged people who pay a lot of money for direct transportation to see President Trump.

They're getting it paid for by the government. You don't speak Polish, you don't know anything. Each member of parliament in the the ruling Party is getting money to pay for a bus to take PiS supporters from villages to Warsaw. Essentially, they know no-one is going to show up from Warsaw, so they're resorting to taking unemployed people to demonstrate a crowd.

Like you said Delphi, they are coming from all over Poland to show their support says it all.

It doesn't say anything at all, except that these are mostly people with nothing better to do with their life.

Who besides you would go to see her ?

Don't make me post that picture of Trump's inauguration when no-one turned up :D

Most Poles are hailing his visit and its going to be historic!

They most certainly aren't. The fact that PiS has had to resort to bussing in people from villages all over Poland says it all.

If he was so popular, they wouldn't need to bus anyone in, would they?

Im sure Trump isn't worried about what some Scottish expat thinks.

True, he's too busy insulting the daughter of one of the greatest Poles of the 20th century instead.

I'm sorry that you as a proud American think that it's acceptable to mock family members of great Polish people.

Polish leader says other nations envy Trump's Warsaw visit

Yes, but his grasp of reality is tenacious. No-one envies Trump coming here, in fact, no-one's even mentioned it.

No deplhy, he is very respected president of the United States

Can I have some of what you're drinking tonight?

I'm proud he is coming to visit Poland just like the majority of people in my home country.

It's pretty amazing how you repeat the propaganda coming out of Nowogrodzka almost word for word.

Trumps visit to Poland will be a boost of moral for those fighting against the PC takeover of Poland..

Not really. Most people regard him as a joke, which is why the government has had to pay for free buses to take their supporters to Warsaw to greet him.

Trump's visit will change nothing at all. Over 80% of Poles are in favour of the EU, no matter how much Americans like you beg otherwise.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

I wouldn't mind going to sgh but id imagine a degree from sgh would be worth more in poland than from univ of Montreal.

Usually in Poland, people say that they graduated from the institution that provided the instruction, so in this case, they've got an MBA from SGH, not Montreal.

It's not the case everywhere, but many of these courses provide double diplomas - one from the home uni, the other from the foreign uni.

Yes but we are comparing Texas with Scotland (not Poland)

I don't really see what Scotland has to do with PolishForums.com. We're comparing America to Poland here. Discussing Scotland would be off-topic and not relevant to Trump visiting Poland to examine the superior highway experience.

as there is not another country in the world that has an interstate system as America does.

Germany, France, Italy and Spain all have comparable systems. Germany has a system that is the envy of America, as drivers of high performance German cars can drive legally without restriction. It's an absolute pleasure to drive there, as I do frequently.

Does America even have any real engineering feats? Perhaps Trump could visit Croatia to examine the beauty of the A1 motorway between Karlovac and Zadar. The Sveti Rok tunnel and approach is truly a modern wonder.

the infrastructure of them is far from crumbling, in fact they are in superb shape

The American Society of Civil Engineers thinks differently. They rated roads as D, which is a long way from "superb shape".

Trump will do well to analyse how Poland has built and renovated infrastructure over the last 13 years. We certainly have no scandals like in Flint here.

Neither can the Scots since your top speed limit is 112km/h in Scotland also. lol - who wants to enlightened Scot Boy. (140 km/h in Texas......son !)

140km/h on one single road in one single state, which is only 66km long. It's not much to boast about, not when Poland has much, much more.

When Trump lifts the travel ban you should try to visit America to get enlightened about your jealous fantasies of America.

Jealous of what, your D+ infrastructure? No wonder Trump is coming to Europe, he needs to learn how to build and maintain decent infrastructure. We have infrastructure that is over 1500 years old and still works!

News / Trump will hold Poland up as an example for other nations to follow [106]

More and more Poles returning form trips abroad say they have encountered West Europeans who envy Poland.

They envy the salaries that are 3-4 times lower, the pensions timebomb, the huge amounts of political interference in education, the rule of Party over the rule of law, the alcohol problems, the inequality between men and women and more?

Doubt it Polly. I really doubt it.

Quite. Perhaps Trump should also make a visit to Scotland so he can learn about how Scottish innovation enabled much of the American Dream.

Still, he could learn a lot from Poland on how to overhaul a train system. While America's rail infrastructure is decaying, Poland's is thriving.

The rail system is not used like it is in Europe for travel because everyone in America owns two or three cars which are much more convenient.

Not really. You can't drive from Paris to Marseilles in less than 5 hours, meanwhile the train will get you there in 3 hours. Likewise with Rome to Milan and many other high speed connections, much of which is the envy of America. There's nothing more convenient than stepping on a train in the centre of Barcelona and arriving in the centre of Madrid after just 2:45, while driving on high quality Spanish highways takes nearly 6 hours.

Perhaps Trump should be visiting Europe to learn something about high quality transportation.

European streets are so small they can barely drive the tiny little cars they own on them.

Unlike half of America, where the maximum speed limit is 112km/h. Meanwhile in Europe, highway speed limits are much higher, and Germany has unrestricted speeds. I always wonder how Americans actually get anything done when they can't drive above 112km/h!

Oh, but wait. There's a single road in Texas where you can drive 140km/h. Meanwhile I can drive on every Polish motorway at 140km/h, haha!

Perhaps if Trump wants to come and learn something, he can learn something about how Europeans do transport.

Maybe but most likely Poland could send their top people to America to get idea's to develop infrastructure.

Why would Poland send anyone to America when the American infrastructure is crumbling or simply isn't there?

For instance, rail. The highest speed reached in the US is 201km/h. Poland has trains that run at 200km/h currently, with work ongoing to bring that up to 230km/h. Poland's regional airports are modern and well equipped, while Poland is doing just fine at building large highway projects.

Not much to learn from America there.

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

Usually it was to criticize a 'cis white male' as an oppressor, and to force that person to defend themselves against being an oppressor.

The thing is that they're doing a lot of harm this way, because even people like me (who sympathise with LGBT issues and believe in the right to marriage for gay couples) instantly get pissed off with such stupid language.

trade route north and south

Slight problem. The main trade routes north and south are through -

- Czech Republic (German-orientated)
- Slovakia (heavily influenced by Austria and Russia)
- Hungary (Russia-orientated)
- Croatia (heavily German-orientated)
- Slovenia (heavily Austrian orientated)
- Lithuania (distrustful towards Poland)

None of those countries for historical reasons are going to suddenly fall into Poland's camp. They may agree common strategies for obtaining funding for some things, such as Slovakia getting money for the N-S route from Zilina towards Zvolen, or Croatia getting money to finish the A5, but they have little reason to ally themselves formally with Poland against others.
