Work / Thirteenth Salary in Poland [13]

I had the 13th salary for years. It is a communist ploy to remove proper entitlement to a living monthly salary. In the EC it ought to be illegal in my view. Scummy practice.

walking around naked

We've just had this - naturists have their own areas, set up either within their associations, or with or through local government co-operation. The general public are either warned off or are in the know.

Unfortunately there are some gay meeting spots which should really be fenced off so as not to frighten the horses (one in Katowice Ligota.....)

If you want government legislation against all freedom of expression, try parts of Russia.

Otherwise.................:)

Try Pogoria 4 in Dabrowa Gornica - we can all see that you are actually rather fascinated by the concept. I would wait until next June though; that wind doesn't half put it up 'em.

what do you need walking naked outdoors for - what kind of pleasure does it provide - is it necessary for living - how strange it must be to be a person who is uncomfortable in clothes

Do you live in Tri-City gumishu? I only ask, because they are a bigoted lot, and have no concept of how to mind their own business. What has it got to do with you that naturists want to take their clothes off? Aren't your pair of binoculars powerful enough?

Might I suggest that we all go and do our thing and leave the OP (who is a friend of mine) and others to get on with their interests. Now, isn't that a better idea than being scummy?

Is this very popular in Poland

Huge.... :)

Lazy, Rowy, Wisla somewhere south of Warsaw, Krakow lakes.... ..Not my cup of tea, and I suppose dog would be barred in case he is frightened by all the swinging parts and decides it's all a part of some biting game.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Do you expect to obtain the right to vote in a country of your residence without securing citizenship of that country?

I voted in an early 1990s election, yes, and Italy allows foreign residents to vote. So your point is mute.

You aren't willing to take on Polish citizenship which would allowed you to vote and at the same time you are winging and crying that you are not allowed to vote

Do catch up chap. For MANY years the Polish authorities were under the impression that Poland was as important as America and DUAL citizenship was not possible. Only recently has it changed.

I think that is understandable, even for you.

Are you for real? Do you expect to obtain the right to vote in a country of your residence without securing citizenship of that country?

And Poles retain voting rights in their country while not paying taxes here?

I have paid into this country for 23 ******* years.

Who is having the laugh.?

As I said, taking citizenship of a country comes at a price. I would never give up my Britishness, and why should I? I can't say why actually, as Vincent would ban me :)

but you shouldn't complain about the lack of voting rights (in general elections).

Ah - but for many years the ONE citizenship rule DID apply, and guess who was one of it's biggest advocates?

Kaczynski. that's who.

the source for that information (about driving license).

Now, let me see...

Two of my learners here in Trojmiasto have candidly admitted to me that they bought their driving licence ( from a sample of about 150).

Maybe some of those other adults did too. maybe not.

In the UK that has been impossible for over 50 years. Although there were cases of people impersonating the would be test driver, that is still not as disgraceful as Polish driving instructors taking hard cash.

Yes, I know that. But I don't want the bureaucracy that it brings. For example, I still drive on a UK licence, and would have to give that up.

I prefer a UK driving licence. It cost a lot, and proves that I can actually drive properly and didn't pay a bribe :)

Que? Says a socialist PIS supporter? Lol. You need to study the different programmes.

If you are happy to get up in the morning, and do a day's work, and innovate, vote PO

If you get out of bed in the morning, and count how much money you are going to be allowed to earn that day, vote PIS.

It really is that simple.

So, care to tell us what are you going to vote

You are not listening are you? Poland doesn't allow a vote to people who have lived here for 23 years and paid ******* ZUS and 33 per cent taxes for most of that time.

Of course I could have taken Polish citizenship, but in the past that involved giving up my British citizenship.

Give up British citizenship for these jokers?

They were 'aving a larf.

And there is no way Poles living in the UK should be able to vote on what happens to my money. Disgusting. We all know that Poles living abroad have rose tinted spectacles and are stupid enough to listen to nationalist brainwashing by the remaining twin and his xenophobic mates.

edted...

quote=johnny reb]I agree or pay taxes to the that country..
I have always said, to be able to cast a vote you must present either your property tax receipt or proof of income tax.
Those are the people PAYING for what and who you vote for.
To have welfare recipients who vote for a living instead of work for a living that pay nothing into the public trough to pay for

what is being voted on should not be allowed to vote either.[/quote]
Excellent post Johnny. So absolutely right.

if you use May as a barometer,

With respect Delph, the president vote is completely different to this "real vote." Even people in the "Monaco" of Poland are ****** off with PO for some reason. I have absolutely no idea why, other than they want to vote for somebody new.

Kukiz? Lol - there is a Kukiz "office" on my dog walking route, and I have never seen anybody enter or leave the place:)

the most likely scenario right now is that PiS will fall just short

I wish you were right Delph.

Tromiasto is solidly PO (liberal) by past years, and everybody has forgotten what vast changes have taken place and are not going to vote in sufficient numbers for PO. We're doomed, I tell ya!

A lot are thinking of voting for the new business party, damp squib though it be.

That's a totally marginal issue. Poles that vote abroad (and there's not that many of them) are usually recent emigrants, who send money here, frequently visit, often are not yet sure where they are going to live in the future and generally contribute more than many living here.

Source? Your comments smack of opinion.

You know, Doug, there is what people say and what they do

But people are sick of PO - they say that PO has broken promises and have done nothing in 8 years, so why should they give them four more years?

We all know that's nonsense, as Poland has undergone a sea-change in the last 8 years, and is unrecognisable from before, but people always demand chang - when actually it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't ( as it were - as in this case we know the devil is PIS...)

ALL of the people i speak to in Trojmiasto will vote against PIS. But they are very reluctant to vote for PO.

Spread this straw poll across Poland and PO have no chance.

Absolutely zilch. Zero.

Terrible news, and like others I am seriously considering the future of continuing to reside at Dougpol Towers, as the PIS scum will be auditing my businesses, or should I say, harassing me, at every turn, as before. I am older now, and wont stand for that **** again.

UK, Ireland / London Strip Clubs? What's it like for women working there? [74]

Bigalan. At university there was a stunning example of the opposite sex in my palaeontology class. B/f was nerdy/different. The situation was, apparently, that he just said hello, and was naturally friendly, and didn't' slobber over her like we losers did :)

There's somebody for everyone. Being 50 doesn't disbar you.
Just stay away from student discos :)

I'm so glad that it's 11 more days and we will stop seeing your "amazing" political analysis :-)

What has it got to do with you.? You don't live here. Delph does, and has to suffer the ****. The **** that your country produces in copious amounts. Still. Because it is still communist in thinking a lot of the time.

UK, Ireland / London Strip Clubs? What's it like for women working there? [74]

below average looking men who pay for sex

It also depends on how highly sexed you are:) Those people who say men who pay for sex are exploiting women are full of it IMO. A lot of ladies enjoy their work (with responsible clients). Or so my friends tell me :)

That's because it's only average to below average looking men who pay for sex.

Again, absolutely not so Bigalan.
My erstwhile pal, in a Silesia backwater, who I thought was a mate, until he stabbed me in the back, was even better looking than myself, and had a fit wife who never seemed to age.

He was also a (second-rate) politician:)
He had an addictive personality and was always on the job horizontally speaking , and that included the professional ladies, although he was the one nighter king of the town. He was the male equivalent of James Brown's "Sex machine". I know, because I was there, trying to keep up:)

UK, Ireland / London Strip Clubs? What's it like for women working there? [74]

those who have to pay for girls because they can't get it for free are far more pathetic.

Mmm....

Winston Churchill] Madam, would you sleep with a man for a million pounds?
Lady(For that is she..)] Well, I don't know.... I would have to think about it. Well, yes, I suppose I would.
Churchill] But would you sleep with a man for a pound?
Lady] Mr Churchill! What kind of a lady do you take me for?
Churchill] That Madam, we have already ascertained.

The moral being that the oldest profession is like everything else in this world, a service to be priced accordingly. What about those who cannot meet women? Or women who cannot talk to men? For example, I know of one lady who only sleeps with escorts.

You are young Marsupial, and would of course come out with that old chesnut of derision for those who avail themselves of some company.

News / Looted Polish paintings found and return to Poland [14]

First looted by the Nazis from Poland's National Museum, the 1728 oil painting ' Portrait of a Young Man ' by Krzysztof Lubieniecki, spent 70 years in Columbus, Ohio,

Fantastic. If it belonged to the nation it bloody well should be returned. Of course, if a Turner had been looted, then we British would have to declare war.

Fortunately, Turner did the right thing and bequeathed his talent to the nation, and we enjoy it today for free. Unfortunately the Poles were naive and didn't think to take their national heritage with them when the establishment fled to Romania. Anybody caught auctioning Polish looted art should be taken outside and shot.

relics of communism and the nanny state" is another myth

I really meant that the old traditional method of tables in rows are still employed in a lot of secondary schools, and not the groups of students around table A. table B and so forth........and that "children musn't do experimentation because there may be accidents" and "the teacher would lose their authority and the need to actually teach/demonstrate."

Study / Bachelors in Civil / Mechanical Engineering Degree in Poland [39]

That's pretty much a nationalistic myth propagated during communist times that persists.

Very true. All of what you say. It is ridiculous that industry doesn't get more involved, or most authorities do not allow students (at school level too) to conduct their own experiments in practical lessons.

Cost of equipment, chemicals and reagents are often cited but surely it is because of the relics of communism and the nanny state?

In the meantime, the lecturer often has to demonstrate and there is little kinesthetic learning.

Don't be silly. Polish engineers are sought after all over the world and in communist times Polish sedimentologists practically ran Iraq's oil exploration projects. Stop spouting nonsense.

Work / Companies and pay for a Native English Teacher in Warsaw? [46]

I don't think so Jardinero. Dominic is Polish, and knows nothing about the TEFL market from a natives' perspective. He is doom and gloom, as others have said, but he means well. However there is a lot of work around. A sound functional ability in English is a must for any youth with ambition, and help with teaching/motivation/training/whatever is in constant demand. I keep annoying learners by offering services that I can't deliver on, and have to pass on down the line.

Mind you, I am the best at what I do in the area :)

Where Dominic is correct, and it is completely OT, is that working in TEFL you will never have that house on the hill, but I teach some of those very people, and I have never had any inclination to emulate them. A polite way of putting it would be "horses for courses":)
