Life / Half-naked barbers in Poland. A Haircut with a difference! [27]

I have a friend that was supplementing her medical billing income with cleaning houses. She told me that one guy offerered her an extra $50/hr if she would clean in the nude. She said that was the quickest she took her clothes off in a long time. And she said it was kind of sad that that nice, well to do professional has to pay to see a nude woman.

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

I think everyone that lived in Poland knows that everything OP wrote is true. We have all exprienced frustration with bureaucracy, services, employees - all true!

OP took his time to write about his own experience, exactly what these forums are made for, so others thinking about doing the same thing can be more realistic about what lays ahead.

Why is everybody attacking him?
Everytime I actually read something usefull here, a bunch of bored shut-ins chime in and spoil it. Instead of attacking him, tell about your own experience! If you have any.

Life / WOULD YOU MOVE BACK TO POLAND IF.... [73]

Would you move back to Poland if you were offered a salary of 6k a month? This is for those Poles away, of course.

No, I could not take the cold winters ever again.

UK, Ireland / why do you shout and throw (question for english people) [30]

doesn't it sound like some unemployed Brits might be blaming their sorry circumstance on Polish workers? Little alcohol, pack mentality, easy target.. Now I'm thinking OP knows that, and this was a rhetorical question.

And you should ask yourself why do you think anyone must feel guilty if they think we are all equal. You take sides with a racist jerk, and then cry foul like a ... right!... a sniveling coward!

Hmm... you were the one talking about guilt, not me.
And how funny! I feel exactly the same way about your hateful racist bull! Keep it to yourself!

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

Holy sheepsheet. Yea, Poland is definitely off my list of "places to retire".

But wait. Unless you are paying hefty maintanance fees, or have family or friends look after the place, where in the world can you leave your house (I'm not talking about an apartment, where nobody might even notice you're gone) vacant for 6 or more months and expect to find it untouched?

Why can't you let a native guy do a simple job?

If a native wants to do a simple job, then he should not complain about competing with simple people. We should be rewarded for our effort, resourcefullness, adoptability, knowledge, not the things we have no control over.

I have a solution too. Why don't you get some education, get yourself out of the ghetto so you can be among people for whom the intelligence is the first and race is last of the considerations when judging another.

You are a bunch of low lifes that think the are better because they're white. How embarassing!
This is why I could not let anyone that knows me to know that I waste my time reading this garbage.

Love / Maintenance for child born between Irish/Polish parents. [60]

I say forget the guy and do the best you can. If you go after the support, his family might convince him to get visitation, get involved in the child's life and you'll have more headaches than the money is worth.

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

spread rumours that after the year/two/three of living on your farm in Poland, you've developed some unexplained chemical/biological/radiation poisoning symptoms, and if they don't see you, you're probably having medical test, and for God's sake, implore them to stay away until you have more information.

lol the villagers would probably feel compelled to exorcise the land. They might burn the place, or fix it up for you so they can cure you their food when you return.

Seriously, even if it's just to ease your russian lady's mind, keep the farm. Also, and just as importantly, a man with fall-back options is much much more exciting.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

better idea, they should have had a procession with the cross. an hour, and it's over with...

I like the procession idea! Especially when they do it on their knees.

Travel / My friends advise me not to go to Warsaw because people are horrible there? [30]

That's my town!
This kind of reputation has been besowed on New York, Miami, Paris.. it does not mean that much.
But, firstly, you might have a better time with some local connections.
Secondly, if somebody gives you an attitude, dish it right back. Sarcasm makes me feel better.

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

see if I got this straight:
with western girls, you pretty much have to be approved by her friends for her to talk to you, dutch and swedish girls just flirt and polish girls have no girlfriends when they go out?

I appreciate anyone that takes an effort to post their experinces here - good bad and inbetween. Thank you! I hope more people do.
I usually keep a bare facts diary when traveling. Highly recomended. It's interesting reading it years later.

Po polsku / Trzymajcie się ciepło! :) [25]

Torq, as much as you pi$$ed me off being a judgmental control prick, you have to realise that the only way to offset the negatives, is not to rip into the unhappy people that post it, but to point out the positive. You quitting like that only makes you a lightweight, and tips the scale in their favour.

So, chill, dude. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions, and being able to see the full spectrum is an advantage. Knowledge is power. If you're worried about those that can be undully influenced by internet rantings... don't. They're not going anywhere, and you can't change people. You can only change the way you react to them. Like Darwin said - it's not the smartest or the strongest that will survive, but the most adaptable.

Re: waves: that is the problem I had with my offspring. Given that we only have few weeks a year for our vacation, Poland did not offer the "x-treme" enough activity.. until we found the ice yachting. Spending my golden years spoon-feeding a quadrapelegic is not something I'd look forward to, but.. what the hell, you can't change people. You can only change the way you react to them. Like Darwin said - it's not the smartest or the strongest that will survive, but the most adaptable.

Life / What are the things which cause culture shock in Poland? [164]

I used to think that sending postcards from your vacations was such a sweet, thoughtful tradition. Oh, we're thinking of you on our vacation, wish you were here...

Now, for some strange reason that I am unable to shake, I don't think it's a nice custom at all. I cannot bring myself to send a card from a vacation, especially to those that are not taking any, and I'm downright embarassed when I receive them. What is the point? I would rather see your pictures and get together for a full report when you get back.

I don't think many Poles agree with me about the post cards, though... anyone?
