UK, Ireland / Pronunciation help (Pawel) for sensitive social work issue [12]

well if the mother has enough English to manage without an interpreter surely he can just ask?
No offence to your husband but surely an interpreter would be needed in the case of safeguarding ( if that is what it is?).
The thought of a SW making a report on a family who does not really speak the language would be v worrying.

Language / Przypadki (Polish language cases) [59]

I know a bilingual English/Polish speaker (born in England to Polish parents) who doesn't make mistakes with cases, yet who doesn't know what cases even are! It massively impresses me how native Polish speakers can correctly apply - at speed - the often bizarre and illogical permutations of noun and adjective declinations...

but you do the same in English - there are some cases in our language too! Do you know what they are? probably not but for example you would not say 'that is him bag' would you?

Work / Typical rate for 1-on-1 English lessons in Poland (Krakow)? [37]

It depends - do you have experience, knowledge and qualifications?
Or does it just sound like an easy way to make a bit of dosh and you are a 'native speaker'?
What does 'afraid' mean in English?
Why do we say 'it is time we were gone' when you have not done that yet?
Is this verb intransitive?

These are typical questions from a learner.

Love / Polish girlfriend told me we cant have sex because I'm not religious [40]

levi could you link us to those news stories about Catholic churches in Birmingham being torched by North African immigrants please?
Also gosc makes a good point - is a society 'modern' when women are forced to back street abortionists or to do the job themselves? I think not/

I repeat to everybody - check the topic title, off-topic posts will be removed

OP she probably doesnt want to have sex with you as she would not be able to marry you if she got pregnant. Abortion not being an option.

Genealogy / Why Polish aren't white?? [272]

'ethnically' British is a meaningless term. As I said, British name, accent and birth and passport genearlly makes someone...........drumrollls....British.
It is not that hard to comprehend now is it?

Genealogy / Why Polish aren't white?? [272]

"I am Black British" You will never be British, you're Black, how can you be?! 😂

look if someone is born in the UK, four generations after their forbears came from the West Indies, has a British name and British accent. and British passport... then duh they are British.

Life / Why are Polish so conservative and religious? [240]

I am not sure that is true Harry, I heard that the catholic priests of the UK were delighted as the Polish influx meant their churches were full again. Not to mention church attendance and Catholic schools which are full of Polish children by all accounts.

Food / POLISH RECIPES! [287]

It is poor, boring, heavy, greasy, tasteless.....

that is a bit unfair, some Polish dishes are delicious.
I really like the salads, bigos, schabowy, pierogi. Not all together of course! oh and that lovely poppy seed cake!
