History / If Poles were antisemitic, would they ...? [240]

I want to say the creator of this thread has a very silly mindset considering the examples he listed.

Yes, some thread creators have no idea whatsoever.

Naming things after Jews is something the majority of Poles had no saying in.

It sounds as if some aliens dropped from the moon and arranged things for Poles without their knowledge and permission.

If they were antisemitic,

would they put such displays in classrooms?

Yes, Poland has no tradition of making tasty fruit vinegar.

Hey, how about a new riddle?

What`s going on? The date is important.

No, don`t give up, you just guessed perfectly correctly. :) Except that not only for kids but by kids, too. :) I must repeat it with the next set of kids.

On the right, ingredients for the beetroot juice.

Language / How many tenses and cases in Polish? [33]

Hello, can anybody tell me how many tenses

Hmm, shortly speaking, in English terminology, Poles use: Present, Past Simple, Past Continuous, Future Simple and Future Continuous.
The difference between Simple and Continuous is called completed and uncompleted.

For Present tense the time reference is provided with proper adverbs of time:
Ja piję mleko means both I drink milk and I am drinking milk. Therefore, Poles add teraz as now and każdego dnia as every day to show the difference..

That`s madness. How can a NATO member attack another member? Please, come to your senses, your arguments are ridiculous, don`t let emotions carry you beyond all limits.

Genealogy / From which region can this Polish guy come from [4]

My idea would be to approach and ask him a direct question. That would save you a lot of painful guessing. Besides, you would let him know you are interested.

, many eggs so is it going to be an omelette of some kind?

it's not for breakfast after all!

Don`t worry about the times, it doesn`t matter if it`s breakfast or lunch, we are not orthodox. The setting and utensils are more important. E..g, what about those cans?

Yes, I initially thought of beetroot,

They look rather like beetroot

Yes, thanks for correct guessing. It is all raw beetroot mixed with celery, horseradish, ginger and garlic. I pour water and wait until it ferments into a kind of red borsch which is good for liver and hair. I drink a lot of wine so I use borsch as a detoxicant. Healthy hair is also important because I like to look young. :):)

No onion, though. I prefer it raw.

There are plenty of articles about fermented beetroot juice, e.g.
articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2016/12/26/fermented-beets-benefits.aspx

Next - still about food, I can`t stop, heeelp.....

What is going on?

Have they been bought for children on All Saints' Day when visiting graves of the deceased?

Yes, especially in Lesser Poland region, because I am not sure about other regions` customs. One correction only: not only for children!

Still food: what is it?

Classifieds / I need someone to help with ADDRESS (to keep my Polish permanent residence) [3]

having a polish permanent address required me to have an address

you probably meant permanent residence, not address.

I understand you want to pay sb in Poland for registering you at his/her home address, right?

If so, I can`t help you, sorry.

PS. But I am curious how much such a service costs/should cost.

Yes, meat supply for Christmas time, we get it from a befriended local producer who doesn`t use any additives. The second pic is an extremely modest Christmas Eve supper

Swienconka?

If you mean Easter basket, then no, dates in the pics are important here, it is December.

Still food: What is the context of these sweets? I couldn`t resist and opened the packet with my fav ones:

I think Atch is correct with vinegar.

Yes, it is spirit vinegar. That jelly dish was served on a table during a celebration, I didn`t touch it, I never do, meat surrounded with jelly is disgusting to me. Once, as a boy, parents tried to feed it to me and I threw up after the first forkful. It is the only food which I consequently avoid throughout all my life.

No, but food poisoning can!

Well, you can usually see and smell the raw meat before mixing the ingredients, so the chances of rotten food poisoning aren`t so high.

although perhaps they're quail

Yes, very good - two quails. Funny food.

Now, these are ingredients for a certain dish - what?

Don`t worry, tapeworms from tatars don`t kill instantly, it is a longer process. :)

Wodka... And galaretka around it.

I might be wrong, and it might not be a vodka shot either.

No, it is not vodka, I wouldn`t show you such obvious things. :)

It seems only a truly Polish person will know. :)

As for the main dish, it is chicken in jelly

News / Poland's young voters turning to the right - DW news [105]

The US would not tolerate any crap within Western Europe then or now.

Wrong again. One day it wouldn`t, another it would. That`s the problem with the US. So undecisive... :)

Did you salute the US flag as I asked you? You don't have to kiss it, just salute.

No, not yet, because I only have the Russian flag. :):) Shall I salute it on your behalf? :):)

The german worker gets poorer and poorer. Poverty is on the rise, people have less income

That`s the price of the technological progress. The EU has hardly anything to do with it.

So, kudos to Atch who guessed fava beans and Chemikiem for fish, cod exactly - those square fillets are still popular here. I remember eating them as a small boy. As for fava beans, they weren`t frozen, I grow them later than regular farmers, so instead of May/June, I relish it in July and August,.

but

whatever they are, I bet being fried in smalec was involved :

No, I hardly ever fry anything in smalec, prefer veg oils. But I like smalec - I make my own one, with big crunchy chunks of melt lard, because shops offer only smalec with little chunks. I put it on sandwiches when I decide to have a rural taste.

Now, what is in the glass inside?

was a gift from the US. Nothing to do with the EU

Wrong, narrow perspective again. I didn`t mean the war between blocks but between seperate countries. The main idea behind the EU was to forgive Germans and develop the European cooperation with them as the main driving force. It has worked till today.

Because the EU was imposed

Of course it was imposed by the ruling class. So what? Elites always propose and implement such major schemes, it is natural. What you say about slave class is also illogical because they took great advantage of over 50 years of peace in Europe. Who died on European fronts? Ruling classes? Don`t be childish. :)

News / Poland's young voters turning to the right - DW news [105]

Well, let's start with the fact that young Poles turning to the right is a positive thing for Poland.

Don`t get so excited about Polish youth turning right. It is a temporary phenomenon, a result of the atmosphere of zealous patriotic nationalism created by PiS government since 2015. The youth traditionally like to follow things they consider trendy. When PiS loses power, the situation will get normal again.

Besides, it doesn`t mean they will show it during elections. Young people generally don`t go to ballot.

Looks like it contains yellow split peas, is it Grochówka?

Yes, exactly.

Zalaweika (or however you spell it:) )

Sorry, zalewajka is much thinnner. That`s why I never eat it.

I've never seen it with corn or potatoes

Actually, it is not corn but yellow peas which fell apart and got deformed during long cooking. As for potatoes, they are OK in pea soup. You should have rather pointed to the presence of carrot in it, it is not so common. But, I am not orthodox.

What is on the main plate?

Oops, I am sorry, due to required low quality of photos (only 100K), I have problem with seeing the content properly. I thought I was loading the photo with my fav shrimp pierogis ala Danzig but now, at a closer look, I see it is frog legs indeed. I am really sorry. Glasses are a must.

Here is sth really typical. What soup is it going to be?

Shame you can't post photos, I was really hoping that thread would be revived!!

Thanks for encouraging me to try to revive the thread. Yes, I remember we had a lot of fun here.

In case one wants to look through older posts, don`t, because most pictures are lost, particularly the ones which were loaded directly from the net. A lot of useful info has been lost. Pity, but that`s life.

So, a piece of advice - if you plan the pictures to stay for a longer time, load them from your own PC into Polishforums account. Dear admin/mods, what is the capacity of the Forums` hard discs? I hope big enough.

So, let`s go. My fav topic, food, goes first.

What is this typical Polish food? It is so delicate and refined I have it only twice, thrice a year.

Language / What do you like in Polish language? [70]

I disliked Polish language so much that I left the country.

I hope you understand it is ridiculously implausible. Do you expect people to believe that you don`t know the Polish language because you once disliked it so much that you even left the country? You`d better change your profile story to sound more credulous. Who told you that Poles are so dumb? Your only hope now is that some foreigners might buy it and really think you are connected with Polishness.

One doesn`t need any papers while fishing on private lakes. Pay admission fee, that`s all. If you catch something, you pay for it. Simple.
