Travel / Which Poland's city is LGBT friendly? [43]

@Polsyr: I have never been to Lodz and I know I should. I know about the city but for one day it can be alright

Food / Can you do online food shopping in Poland? Supermarkets. [42]

@Polsyr: that's right re free parking. I happen to buy a lot from TK Maks too.

As to Piotr & Pawel, I normally never buy fruit and vegetables from them because too expensive. They have otherwise great products and have their own brand "Piotr & Pawel", and believe me it's very good and no more expensive than let's say Carrefour. I buy their dairy products, cereal, cookies and they are really good and cheap...

It seems that everybody shops at same places so why not organizing a shopping meeting some day?

Travel / Which Poland's city is LGBT friendly? [43]

@Jon; yes, they can be found online but what I meant is that one does not find them by just walking around. Imagine if they were indicated as such, they would need riot police with dogs 24/7, like Polonius would say and there would be "an@| orgies in the middle of the street" (the best I have ever read in PF) like Levi would say.... Indeed gay places need to keep a very low profile in such a society.

Food / Can you do online food shopping in Poland? Supermarkets. [42]

@Jon; that's right, I forgot! Most people go to Reduta (Carrefour) or to Blue City (Piotr & Pawel) so even Biedronka on weekends is rather quiet.... I was used to going to Zloty Terasy and to Galeria Mokotow but I have lately started to go to Blue City/Reduta as I don't live far away (some 10 minutes' bus ride) and have now some work closeby. Blue City at first is very hard to figure out but after a few times, it's ok...

As to Leclerc's French products, athough basic and cheap (contrary to for instance Carrefour), they are very good. Like said, they have a lot of organic products including cleaning products but sorry I don't buy their French organic "Ludwik" that costs ..... 34 ZL. I am not stupid ;)

@Polsyr: is the question for me or for Jon? I very rarely order online and when I do, it's only for (organic) cosmetics...

Study / Is the University of Warsaw good? [26]

That's an another topic issue so everybody keep to the thread title question please.

Study / Is the University of Warsaw good? [26]

@Dominic: ok! I think that besides study financing, visa applicants should prove that they have a minimum of 2,000 ZL per month. Counting on a theoritical job to support oneself while studying is pure non sense as 99.99% of those people shall have no work.

Please note that gay places first of all are very limited in Poland (compared to western countries) and also that they are kind of "hidden" so necessary to know where to find them ;).

Food / Can you do online food shopping in Poland? Supermarkets. [42]

@Jon: maybe we can meet at Leclerc;). Besides the fact that it is never crowded (thanks to Biedronka next door ;)), I like it because they have a lot of organic products and quite a few French products (not fancy like at Carrefour but basic (generic brands) - for instance they have chocolate mousse for ... 0.69zl and it's really good). Yes, some Carrefour are much better. I often go to the one at Zloty Terasy (was there 1 hour ago ;)).

@Jon: PS: I don't know whether we can order online from Carrefour but I suppose info can be found on their site. I think possible with Leclerc. I never order. I go to such stores once in a while since buying from small neighborhood shops every day/other day...

Study / Is the University of Warsaw good? [26]

@Dominic: what is the amount? Such would be students are completely disconnected from reality. How many of them do get work in Poland? I would say let's than 1%. They don't know Polish, they have no skills and also they are not "white, catholic..." and on top of that Polish students struggle.

I think Polish consulates should tell the truth instead of letting those people dream...

Study / Is the University of Warsaw good? [26]

@Dominic: Hi! Don't Polish consulates check applicants' financial situation before processing visa applications? Very strange to me that people have no money to finance their sudies and stay and expect to find work (of course 99.99% of them shall NOT get any work).

Food / Can you do online food shopping in Poland? Supermarkets. [42]

Besides buying fresh fish once in a while at Tesco, I now don't buy anything else there. Over the years, Tesco has gone downhill and now most of their products are pure s... and the customers I see there are really "low class". Carrefour is much better but I prefer Leclerc. I go to that one near Al. Jerozolimskie which has the advantage of never having huge lines thanks to the Biedronka store just opposite - most people shop at Biedronka ;). I went a few times to Auchan and was not impressed. Real is cheap and sh...ty. I'm talking about stores of the same category.

Law / Pakistani married to Polish Girl in Sweden [40]

Completely obvious that most stupid to judge a WHOLE group (nationality or others) based upon 1, or a few examples. Within any social group, there are a lot of différences... Only kids and/or people who have not travelled jump to easy conclusions (too many people in PF do).

Life / Living Expenses in Krakow [42]

@Cardno: I have passed the age of living like a student ;). I have never really counted but I must be spending 1,000/month for food. I must admit that I buy quite a few organic and also many foreign products. I shop at small shops, Spolem (a lot of quality products), Piotr & Pawel (their own brand is very good and not expensive), Leclerc (a lot of organic products + a lot of French products) and also Marks & Spencer (cookies (I love "short bread"), crackers, bakery, cereal....). In summer, I buy a lot of vegetables and fruit on the street. I eat out of home 3 or 4 times a week, when I am at work and I spend 15/20 ZL/meal. I don't buy meat other than chicken breasts or already cooked "antrykot". I buy fresh fish. I don't buy alcohol except when I have guests over for dinner.

Life / Whats with going to sauna naked in Poland? [41]

@Jon: sorry, but I like "real beaches" with warm and clean water so Poland out ;)

You must be kidding! Some guys don't want to go to public toilets if not alone!!!!

I myself am not "brave" but undressing in front of people, even of other sex doesn't bother me. I mean to get undressed when necessary not just for the sake of it ;).

Before being operated on, I went through comments written by Poles and one (Polish) woman had asked whether during operation, she could keep her ... underwear on ;).

Remember that a lot of bigots keep their nightwear when having sex and when washing....

Life / Whats with going to sauna naked in Poland? [41]

@Jon: beach in .... Warsaw????

Anyway, even the Baltic Sea is too cold, too grey for me so I never go. I need warm and blue sea ;)

I have never been to a sauna in Poland (all the more as for heatlh reasons I can no longer) but I have noticed in a lot of occasions, that Polish girls are shy to undress (even to try a garment on) in front of others. I am a woman and I had several situations with (female) friends of mine not undressing in front of me (they had to go to other rooms) I must say that each time I was not comfortable.

Once again, the religiosity of most Poles ;(

Life / Living Expenses in Krakow [42]

@Weeg: could be but a young single foreigner shall not live like a monk and in order to do so, he'll need min. 4,500 per month.

PS: I live in Warsaw and occasionally go to other places and believe me, I am not impressed by their prices. I may pay 2 or 3 ZL less for a cup of coffee or a sandwich and that's all...
