News / U.S., Poland sign military aviation accord [24]

Germans definitely don't want them anylonger

They can have the US nukes from Belgium as well. Nobody wants them (and for that matter nobody wants any Yanks as well). Here in Poland they will be thrilled. JK and laptop ziobro will put a "kokarda" around them :)

And no, we leftist loonies from Belgium do not need visa for the US :)

History / Polish martyrology during WW2 - today`s monuments [54]

In the west of my country (Flanders) there are monuments and war cemeteries every square kilometer. Because that is where the front line was in 1914-18. In Lommel there is the Polish Military cemetery (including quite a few David Stars, too bad for the OP). But nobody makes a big story out of it. It is history, not be forgotten. But just history.

History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

Even today Germans, our BB included believe themselves to be a superior species.

As compared to you from the namiotist type who think all smolenkists are born saints?
Actually I think Germany is a sound nation.

History / German Traitor And Polish Pig [96]

You know that in France in 1944 prostitutes were not punished for their "relations" with Germans? Because it was considered they were working.
Besides of that, I wonder what the intention is of the OP? He does not know that this was Germany...

Nope, Silesians are a distinct ethnic group thats about 100.000 large, possibly smaller, everyone else is just an ihhabitant of Silesia, thats like calling US citizen a native american.

That is because all Germans in Silesia in 1945 were 1. murdered 2.murdered during "evacuations" to the West 3. murdered in ex-Nazi concentrations camps 4. deported to Siberia 5. Pretended to be Polish to save their skin.

Nemmersdorf was not a detail, it was routine.

Love / Polish dating tips [40]

Why is that ? From my experience married men tend to fall asleep on the sofa watching the telly, instead of going clubbing. Could also have to do something with the age :)

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

TheOther:
The question I would ask is: would Poland be better off without a membership? I seriously doubt that, because without being a member of the EU those millions of Polish citizens I've mentioned in my previous post would most likely not be allowed to work in Britain, Germany and elsewhere in Europe.

Poland could do well on her own, thank you.

How Poland could do well on her own?
Every single investment made these days in Poland in the public sphere is financed by the EU. Poland is a part of the EU too.

Today we went on a very agreeable boat trip from Warsaw to Serock. First sign in Serock: Beach side rebuilt and financed by EU funds.

Came back to Warsaw. Hit on anther yellow sign mentioning the construction of the second metro line. Financed by the EU.
Last weekend we went to my wife's family in Rabka-Zdrój. Who is financing Zakopiańska? The EU.
Which peanuts?
I think your Endacja mind cannot accept this.
Poland is a part of Europe, and not a part of redneck country. In PIS times the CIA tortured people here. But that stopped.

Poland could do well on her own, thank you.

Of course you can sell yourself to the rednecks, but will they pay you handsomely for that? You still would be at the mercy of some US bureaucrat who could do you the favor of giving you a visa. For what?

There is not anymore "on her own" these days. There is no going back to the days of liberum veto.
Maybe you have not noticed it, but Poland is a part of Europe.

that monies are only peanuts really - the real value of those funds is in the propaganda element.

You are talking nonsense. Look at the yellow investment signs all over Poland, and see how much of the project cost is covered by EU funds.

Travel / Car Museum in Warsaw. [13]

Antek_Stalich
I have no idea to be honest. 8 years ago is way back and my (then future) wife arranged it.
As concerns the papamobile... I think it is a reconstruction. There are a few of them in Poland :)
But they are doing good business with their old cars.

Travel / Car Museum in Warsaw. [13]

Great museum. We were married (ahum, drove to the wedding place) in one of their cars, and so did friends of ours.
If you watch a Polish movie with old cars in it, they come from there.
I heard they have a branch somewhere in Praga these days ?

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

Who is poor in Poland? People who spend most of their income on utilities, food, clothing, transportation, taxes and they're left with a very little disposable income.

This is aboslutely correct, 100 %.

Off-Topic / im a true polish patriot [30]

Im a true, 100%, polish patriot - my father and grandfather fought to liberate poland in 1945 and then they helped to rebuild the country

How do you define "a Polish patriot" ? If tour family fought in 1945 and then helped to rebuild the country, they were most likely witg Berling's AL outfit ?

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

No. I am talking about people having to go to work where it takes ages to get without a car. Logistic centers means towns like Błonie, Mszczonów, Grodzisk Mazowiecki...where a lot of companies are located. Try to get to work there without a car. To the train station into town, yes. And then ? That means about everywhere around the city off the beaten tracks. (and I guess this is the same for the big five all over). You assume that everybody is able to get to work by public transport in no time. This is not the case.

I get by on my Karta Miejska just fine. But a lot of people have no choice other than using a car.

There's normally all sorts of stuff available for 1-2zl a kilo - for instance, potatoes never go above 2zl a kilo, and I've seen them as cheap as 60gr at one point last year.

I seriously doubt that. Here in Warsaw for 10 PLN you buy at the moment for example one kg of strawberries. (not in Bomi but in a local kiosk).

The only thing available for 2 PLN would be onions.

Define remote. The people who want (and buy) cars in Poland largely fall into two groups

I do not agree with this. Take my city Warsaw.
In the city, yes I fully agree with you. I hardly use my car here except for the weekly shopping on Saturday.
But try to get to any of the big logistic centers out of the city without a car. No way you can do that in an acceptable time by public transport. In Belgium people as a rule accept 1 - 1,5 hour to get to work as doable.

Try to get to ProLogis in Teresin or Błonie for example in that time :)
Fuel prices in Poland are basically the same as in Belgium - not relative but in reality. Income-wise however it is a huge difference.
Also the prices of clothes are the same. Step into Zara or H&M in Warsaw...or in Antwerp. Again little or no difference. Of course you could say "why you have to shop there". But we do not buy our clothes in "Tani Armani" stores...
