Love / Confused with my former co-worker - absolutely stunning Polish woman [21]

@Terri: of course touching "below the belt" or the breats for a woman means "business". But touching or taking someone's hand or arm when talking to him/her is not sexual, it just shows that we appreciate the person, his/her company. This is normal in for instance Southern Europe but in Poland it is not so the woman was implying something else. In Poland people don't touch don't kiss unless they are "together"..

@Terri: this is clear what the guy was aiming at. If you travel to Mediterranean countries (but not only) you'll notice that people touch and it has nothing to do with sexuality.

A few days ago, I had to move to another seat on the bus because the guy right behind me was caressing my shoulders in a strange way. As said there is "touching" and "touching".

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

Absolutely ok with Dominic: the very few jobs at Indian (or other nationalities) restaurants go to the owners' family and relatives. Also in order to work as waiters/waitresses, Polish language is necessary in Poland (since 99.99% of clients are Polish).

Like Dominic does, I say, if need to finance one's studies with a hypothetical job in Poland (less than 0.01% to find a job), Poland is the wrong place to come to.

Since the big majority of those students won't make a grosz while in Poland, how the hell shall they pay for the studies, for rent, for food and the rest? What about emergencies, like dental needs (last week just to replace a filling that I had lost the day before, I paid ... 237 ZL - not cheap).

Life / Poles - what other nationality would you say you are most like? [125]

Absolutely! Spaniards are the opposite of Poles and as to the Dutch, although not very "merry", there are not conservatives.

Poles are more similar to other central and Eastern peoples rather than Westerners - common sense ! ;)

Love / Confused with my former co-worker - absolutely stunning Polish woman [21]

@Wulkan: originally from Mediterranean :)

There is of course "touching" and "touching" and for me it's normal to touch hands, arms, even shouders when talking with people I like and I enjoy being with, even to kiss them when greeting but in Poland it is not so and therefore that woman "means business" with the guy and if he does not want a complicated situation, best to stay away from her.

Since in Poland, I keep my hands "on the table" ;)

@Asn: Hi! No, what she told you is wrong. In Polish culture, people do not touch. I come from a "touching" culture and sometimes I realize that my touching people in Poland makes them uncomfortable.

If she touches you, it's because she "means business". Her marriage may be ok but she seems not to have enough (and why not thinking about "plan à 3" ;)).

In my opinion (I am a woman) if you don't want complicated things in the near future, stay away from her.

Love / Confused with my former co-worker - absolutely stunning Polish woman [21]

I have known quite a few married Polish women inviting guys over for lunch in order to discuss work related things but what bothers me in your story, it's the "touching thing" (Polish people are not tactile unless they really mean "business"). The woman may want to play with you and if she has more money than you do, she'll use it ...

Best to find a single woman! ;).

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Although proofreading is not easy (sometimes impossible to understand what they mean ;)), it is badly paid in Poland.

I do proofread once in a while (= so not my job) for a Polish company. The texts are easy and repetitive (only problem is that they are always in a hurry). Per page, they pay me 12zl (net - I pay tax) and very often on each page, there are only a few lines. When I started 2 years ago, I did not know how much to ask, they told me the usual rate in Warsaw is 6-10 per page (1,800 characters) but they have offered me 12 ZL/netto per page (and like said, very often there are no more than a few lines on some pages ;)).

This is occasional and when I have work, it's usually max. 35-40 pages at a time, so no way to live on that, it's just a few ZL dodatkowy.

Based upon my "experience", I believe no more than 3,000 ZL, which is very low considering how difficult it can be. Coming from Germany to Poland to make such kind of money does not make much sense to me.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

@Jon: this shall go on and on and on for ever but please be wiser than Pol3, just stop answering his attacks. When you stop responding, he'll drop it. I know this is extremely hard and painful to be attacked because of stupidity and ignorance due to bigotry but unfortunately we still have those in the 21st century, and not only in Poland but all over the world.

I am sure that in real life you don't hang around such people so why should you waste your time and energy on a forum? Pol3 has a deep hatred of homosexuality, which does not even seem rational to me. How the hell can one hate someone just because he/she looks/is different? It beats me.... There are good and bad people in all social groups and Pol3 should learn this.

I freak out when a gay/lesbian kid has parents such as Pol3, Johnny Reb & consorts. The kid is in real danger.

News / President-Elect of Poland, Duda, rescues Eucharist [45]

It would be interesting to know how much that Church has cost to taxpayers and more generally how much money the RCC in Poland gets from taxpayers. At the same time, at Centrum Onkologii there is periodically lack of some medication, a lot of retired folks cannot buy their prescriptions and some people just survive.

I was in Willanow this morning and I can say that they have cut off a lot of trees ;).

I Wonder how much all this thing has cost to taxpayers? Do Polish people need this rather than better hospitals and other insfrastructures? I am not sure ;);)

Law / Opening English and Business College in Poland [19]

@Wulkan: 100% agreed. If the guy was serious, he would seek Professional advice and he could start for instance with comercial attaché from Irish embassy in Warsaw, with a foreign (since no Irish) chamber of commerce in Warsaw rather than from "random clown from a random portal" like Dominic would say ...

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

@Lolek: how can you associate a gay or lesbian who wants the same rights as their hetero fellow citizens (normal in democratic societies) and a nutcase pretending to be a bird? Gays and lesbians don't pretend anything, they are just gays and lesbians and expect to be treated like anybody else, nothing more nothing less...

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

@Polonius: since according to you, being homosexual is dangerous (it is true though that gays are more likely to catch aids), what do you want to do to them? To kill them? To forbid homosexuality? Homosexuality has been around since the origns of mankind.

99.99% gays and lesbians want peace and quiet. They just want the right to live and they don't bother anyone.

PS: I walked this morning along the rainbow and guess what? Still there and no police cars/dogs itd...

PPS: I am sure gays and lesbians are not obsessed by heteros the way you are with gays and lesbians ;). How many of them have you interacted with? I am not saying you have seen on tv but you have really known. I bet 0.

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

@Lolek: "no children no marriage"! How about hetero married couples without kids? People don't have kids for a lot of reasons, often because of medical ones.

How do gays and lesbians and same sex marriage affect your life? They sure don't so let others live their own life! Same sex marriage gives the right to gays and lesbians to marry the persons they love, they don't have to get married, they may if they want to, just like any other citizen. This is EQUALITY, a basic concept in any democratic society. Furthermore, nobody forces you to become gay/lesbian and/or to marry one.

So please some tolerance!

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

@Prohama: Yes, a work permit is for a specific employer and for a specific job.

If for instance, you quit or get fired, and then you find another job, you'll need another work permit. If also for instance you work for a company and then within the same company, you get another job, then the employer has to apply for another work permit since other job (logical).

I believe that if you quit or get fired, you have to leave Poland within a given time since you are illegal.

Obviously, there are a lot of risks to accept jobs under such conditions so need to think it over before accepting. Also be aware that Poland is not opened to foreigners all the more when non white, non catholic and thus, you will not socially interact with a lot of Poles (if any).

And forget the idea of living and working abroad with your Polish docs, which are valid only in Poland.

To be honest, unless paid a real fortune, I would not accept such conditions. ;)

@Pol3: concretely, what does the law consist of? I know quite a few Poles who say "terrible" things re the catholic Church and they are still around.

Also, are homophobia, racism, antisemitism illegal in Poland? For info, such behaviors can lead to .... 3 years in jail and 75,000 euro fine in France so it "calms down" ;).

News / Poland's Space Programme ;) [6]

Poland has other priorities. Most Poles survive on peanuts, millions have to earn their bread abroad and I am sure that most Poles would be against the country "wasting money on NOT necessary things".

Work / What is deducted from a salary in Poland apart from Income tax? [155]

@Prahama: it's clear that you only want to come to Poland to move to other EU countries ;). Just realize that Polish work permit enables you only to work with ONE employer and only in Poland. In order to live and work in other EU countries, you need to have residence and work permits from the other countries.

Pitiful such attitude to exploit Poland and the Poles!
