History / If i could write European history i would unite Europe under Polish language [67]

what a great idea.....

an entire continent saying things like SMS'ow, Obamie, hollywoodski, Kim Jong Il'owi, favoryt, owac'ing everything under the sun along with constantly hearing "how do we say 5 of this?" on top of alienating even more foreign visitors and future business partners with a language nobody can understand or learn.

Poland struggles enough having a language incompatible with the other core languages of the world....why wish that upon all of Europe?

News / The EU's 1 Trillion Dollar Rescue Package [144]

NEW YORK - Stocks tumbled for a second day Friday after concerns grew that the deep spending cuts under Europe's bailout plan would slow a global recovery.

The Dow Jones industrial average ended down 163 points but closed well off its lows of the day. The Dow and other indexes posted big gains for the week after rocketing higher Monday on hopes that Europe's emergency loan package would prevent a debt crisis in Greece from spreading. Enthusiasm about the plan wore off as the week went on.

i'm not singling you out amathyst, i have no beef with you personally, but I can't help but yet again think about how many people on this forum talk smack about America and comment on how the country is run, how it compares to Europe, it's financial systems, the intelligence of its citizens, lifestyles, how we're all fat, etc. etc...........when time and time again, 99.999% of those posters all share one very very big thing in common, that being:

"Never been to the States but....."

but what.

please compare The United States of America to communist eastern europe. i'd love to see the similarities you speak of.

In fact, I can only count one of my clients who doesn't own her own place - and that's because she's a student.

what........in the world.......are you talking about.

I never have, and never will understand the motivation behind your posts. I'd be willing to put money on it that you pleasure yourself to a map of Poland every night. You truly boggle the mind, Mikey.

wrong, the elite will be rich and the rest will have at least a job and food on the table.

this is essentially the difference between Americans and most Europeans. say this to an American and you'll get this answer

This is your idea of a life fulfilled.. food on the table?

every time.

Yup, and we get to keep our homes and we didn't have to pay a penny to bail out thieves a.k.a. banks.

what homes? certainly in Poland, who owns a home? aside from old people living in Eastbumble Pole Wielkie village, I don't know anyone who owns a home personally excluding of course my rich students. the rest grew up crammed into a 50 sq. meter flat with their siblings and parents and still live in a little apt. 25, 30, 35, 40 years old, living in a little apt.

and for what it's worth, this week is a baaaaad week to bring up bailouts darius. hint hint, take a look at the title of this thread. spending money is spending money, sure, but countrymen bailing out their own country is fundamentally different than one country having to bail out another.

Yet, that's what Obama wants for the U.S.A. When will they ever learn?

regardless whether it will work or not, you still cannot compare the USA to the EU. The EU is comprised of several different countries with different cultures, languages, political views and self interests. This is a network of countries that are competing with each other yet at the same time.....working together.

America is one country, one passport, one dominant language, 1 government meaning everyone is paying into the same federal tax system so everyone is in the same boat cheering on all 50 states to do well.

If Obama successfully socializes the American health care system, it will be Americans paying for Americans. If I were an Italian, I wouldn't want to be paying for hip surgery for some dude in....oh....i don't know.....Poland.

America doesn't have to....for example....bail out Canada if their economy starts going in the toilet.

it almost feels like an unfair request. a few countries start failing and instead of being held accountable for it, other countries should start buying their products to bring them back? if Pepsi starts failing, should Coca Cola start buying Pepsi stock to "help them out"?

like......reverse capitalism? it's not how mankind works.

if you ask me, the entire EU is doomed to fail and the Greece issue is only the tip of the iceberg. too many countries with too many separate economic, cultural and idealistic views that eventually some countries that are doing well are going to get sick and tired of bailing out the weak. the USA has it's problems, sure, but they're all in it together and everyone is playing for the same team meaning everyone wants every state to succeed. in the EU, being ahead of the next country is simple competition, but when they get too far behind, they are obliged to write up a "bail out".

USA, Canada / Do Poles feel America is going down the drain? [149]

i still simply don't understand this thread.

you're asking Polish people whether they think America is going down the drain? where would they be getting such information.....Polsat? Since TVN or Tomasz Lis know what's up in the states.....(eye rolling emoticon)

threads like this is exactly why i started this thread months ago:

No, it's just in case anyone attacks. I guess Texans just enjoy the ability to defend themselves in case of attack, instead of being rounded up like sheep and not being able to protect their families in the case of a catastrophe. I'm trying to think of another time and place where that might have been useful, do you have any ideas?

I have this conversation with poles all the time. they say, "why do they have so many guns?" I lean towards what convex is getting at, but it's a topic not even worth having with polish people in most cases.

also, if i may add, regarding the title of this thread:

What do Poles know about America anyhow?

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

Babinich wrote:

You've been truly Americanized!

interesting comment.

i remember the first few weeks I spent in Poland at my school. i was simply baffled by what the other teachers were eating during the day between classes. breakfast was almost always some sort of donut/pastry looking thing, and lunch time it wasn't uncommon to see more than one teacher munching on a prince polo or a snickers bar. I simply never saw this in America and it was so bizarre to see people eating candy bars as if they were real wholesome food.

as a teenager and young college student in America, I worked in a deli for several years and saw what people ate all day long. when it comes to sweets and chocolate especially, polish people simply eat more of it and more often....regardless of the time of day.

Travel / POLISH PKP BAD ATTITUDE [14]

i didn't want to start an entire thread for this, so I'm just gonna post it here.

I have to say, after 3+ years of riding PKP trains and hating them, I rode Inter City yesterday from Poznan to Wroclaw and was pleasantly surprised. you have better seating conditions, more "normal" people on the train.....so less drunks/bums, the train rides smoother, is cleaner, and I made it to Wroclaw in 2 hours. I don't like public transport in general, but for a few extra zloties, Inter City trains are well worth it.

USA: 309,000,000

Law / Visa Stamp if you overstay (American with a Polish Wife) [29]

i know a small handful of expats in poland. every single one of them are, or were before they left, living here either on a work permit or karta pubytu.

there's another difference worth mentioning.....when americans overstay their visas in poland, it's generally because they simply don't know the law (like the guy that started this thread) or they weren't sure but came anyway and didn't do their paperwork in time, whereas then this person usually ends up going back home. the same can not be said for america.....when foreigners come, they know damn well what the laws are and how long they can stay, and generally end up staying for a much longer time.

in america, nearly every native born pole i knew was living illegally or wound up in america on some fly-by-night sketchy marriage decision. along with that, while living in poland, i routinely hear, "oh, my brother was in america and lived with our aunt for a year.....," or, "yeah, I worked there for 18 months, i just overstayed my visa and then came back to poland eventually," and the like.

it's simply routine in America. those that don't believe this are those that haven't lived in America to see for themselves.

to all that like to ***** about it, quit *****ing about the visa issue between america and poland. poles overstay their visas....constantly.

everybody should be subjected to a country's laws. if you're an american living in poland and you overstayed your visa, it's time to go back home.

i'm sure you will find a wealth of information in there......oh.....wait......actually, it's a complete wasteland with little to no information at all, z powodu = lack of true candidates on this forum.

sorry, can't help you.
