Life / Standards of Living in Poland [42]

Don't give him ideas.

what ideas. The hight point of living in Szczecin is the proximity of Berlin. Good for shopping and entertainment.

my advice is to go to Szczecin for a holiday and see if you like it.

good idea, this way you will get a feel of the city.

- how about communications? Will I be able to manage with my English, German and handful of Polish words, or do I need a full blown Polish course in order to merely survive?

hmmm....it all depends, but Szczecin is visited by many tourists, so I don't think that that should be a problem since you might find some who speak English , but not to a large degree. You need to ask yourself if you can live in a country where English is not the first language first.

Szczecin is a fairly nice city, close to Berlin, so if you need to get away you can always visit it on weekends - it is 1.5 hour away from Szczecin.

1350-1400 Euro or 4500-4800 zł

not bad at all, as Sok said that would be enough to have a comfortable life including rent and all necessities.

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

me? NO. I lost my mother 4 years ago and I still don't remember who was at the funeral and who was not. Honest. I was too upset to see or care, but people grieve differently:).

I just think it's over the top.

yep

Same as all world leaders are expected to risk themselves, even if the risk is minimal, to come to see the funeral of the president not the Taoiseach.

yep, I actually find this disrespectful to all the victims of the crash and their families to even talk about it, but that is my opinion. If one was really grieving the loss, as some clam, they would not have enough energy to pay attention to who was coming and who was not.

I think it will definitely get the world's attention when he dies but I am unsure how Polish people will react.

he is values more abroad then in his won country from what I understand.

People, people... you're all like kids' toys - so easy to wind-up :)

the only kid here is you.

In all fairness - some countries used the ash as an excuse and that's obvious.
I don't give a flying (pun intended) f**k though - just trying to wind yous
up a little bit ;)

Also, why should they come?

good point. The irony is that some maybe learning a lesson about taking even less risks when flying.

why is he being buried in the Wawel?

I don't know, I personally have no problem with that.

I think Wałensa's death would warrent this response but not this, as tragic as it is.

there is a possibility. I really don't know, since it is hard to predict the reaction of others really:).

Sorry but that is how I feel.

nothing to be sorry about. I still think that there was a tragedy, but the degree to hysteria, even tough not surprising, is quite .......I cannot even find a word to describe it.

Who's blaming them?

you, indirectly.

I'm just saying they have no balls and/or don't give a toss about relations with Poland ;)

You don't know what went into a decision pro or against flying into Poland for the funeral. But you are welcome to make speculations, because this is what you are doing.

Vulcano ash spread to such a degree does not happen very often and if some governments decide against flying, I am really not surprised, because they are being extra careful.

Do you know how many airports have been closed, or how many flights have been cancelled? it was a total mess and I can only imagine how it would be, because I got stranded in London once because of the fog and it was a disaster, so I can imagine what happened with the ash. I looks like you have never had your flight cancelled.

some countries are willing to take more risk then others and I would never blame other countries for not flying into Poland if they were afraid that that in any way would increase the risk of the crash.

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

From what I read the problem is on the rise in the US and Canada.

well, there is a possibility, but I just got out of the system and most people would laugh in your face if you told them that. There is not way one can cheat in North American unis as one can in Polish unis. It is very strict here and if one is caught, they are in a lot of trouble, including expulsion form the studies. I personally have not heard of such case over the period of 4 years. Nobody is willing to take a risk, although I am sure that there are people who got away with it, but those are very LOW numbers.

As for the thesis as a standard requirement towards an honors degree, that's not what I observed. It is quite a bit different than it used ot be in Poland. The "thesis" here is just another full credit (two semester) course where students have some freedom in selecting a topic of their interest. This is by no means a compulsory course and many opt to select other courses of equal weight.

true.

There is one thing which makes the systems of Canada, the USA and UK clearly superior: extra mural courses.

true.

I think I have reasons to not believe in the alleged superiority of educational systems in Canada, US, or UK over that of Poland. I met idiots in academic circles in all those countries, and I also met exceptionally great minds. A lot of this recognition of diplomas has nothing to do with the actual level of education in various countries but is rather of purely administrative nature.

well, I disagree. We are talking about the system, not about people who enter the system. Polish education is a joke in comparison to Canadian one- that has been my experience. I have been part of both. However, it also depends on the ranking of the Canadian uni a lot.

Life / Bilet, controler and the Poland Police. [78]

Your mass transit is a perfect analogy for what's happening there.

that would be easy to say but the reality is more complex then you are trying to paint it I think.

Let me tell you what my problem is. BTW, I didn't mean to offend anyone.

so this is what you should have said at the beginning instead of banging on about the system. You don't accept how things are run in Poland. Get over it.

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

well said and a good job.
Those are my favs:

- the fact that Olga is capable of switching from one proof to the other when proof seems futile

- evidence that the Russians switched on their volcano machine and sent shivers down the spine of the Icelanders

- pictures of boys with mullets claiming to have witnessed the last seconds of given plane
- pictures of boys with mullets claiming to go to school on Saturday morning
- pictures of boys with mullets happen to have a photo camera handy on a Saturday morning while going to school

- evidence of the fact that even Mother Nature is against the Poles, as an angry volcano prohibits world leaders to attend president Kaczynski's funeral.

- undisputed proof that EU means nothing but bad business for Poland, Ireland and all the other poor states in Europe

Excellent summary:)

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

no thank you. I already have indigestion reading this one.
One the serious note, the situation in Poland is serious enough, people like you just bread more fear then necessary. Trolling is not gonna solve anything, you are hear to get attention, not because you care about the tragedy.

Seeing that people is firmly refusing your PoV due of lack (absence) of real proofs, why don't you just stop keeping on with that?

GOOD question. Olga can always get a job in Hollywood as a script writer, but I am afraid Sokrates has already filled out the post as a delegate from PF. Maybe next year.

I know it’s a silly example,,, in essence this is how you grow/do business here though.

indeed, and this is precisely how you want the business to be done anywhere else, correct?

Love / ARE POLISH GIRLS GOLD-DIGGERS? [359]

my 2 cents.
If one spends money, affection, time with the one he likes and loves, he or she does it out of its own will. Things may work out, or may not.

What I noticed though and I find it strange is the fact that some people think they can buy love with money, buy affection with money, buy sex with money alone If anybody thinks that then they are fools really, we all know it takes more then that.

UK, Ireland / Polish workers humiliated at the Laurens Patisseries - protest [45]

going back on topic:

I think that there is much more to the story ( we actually don't know the story) and the latter incident is probably just a result of the previous conflict between those workers and the employer.

Love / Polish blonde and a British pensioner. No fool like an old fool, or is it love. [57]

Aesthetically speaking, the Northern or Eastern European mix produces a superior look, Greek men are not all that.

Ive seen several English/Greek mixes and the men are (apart from one who looked like an albo) very handsome.

Probably very attractive ones, this is because he doesnt look Greek.

sounds like a textbook on eugenics to me.

Northern-southern mix look like spicy Anglos or out of the water Greeks while the greco-Slavic mix produces wonders Serbian alike.

History / Kaczynski's Legacy [88]

It is only after his death that we have a chance to start to develop normal relations with Russia.

and being perceived in a much different light in general. I don't think that Kaczynski was a good representation of Poland. He was only representing certain circles. While we are at it, what is your take on Tusk?
