Love / Need Advice: I have fallen in love with a Polish woman... [65]

It has, because a priest also takes a vow, so you could say there's commitment between the priest and the church. So the church doesn't find it a scandal to sever its ties with a priest who went bad, but they do find it scandalous when a woman wants to sever her ties with a man who went bad? It's simple really, you don't have to honour your promise if your other half doesn't honour his side of the bargain.

Marriage is different because it's the sacred union of a man and woman before God and that's the most important thing of all to the Church. It's up to the clergy to counsel the man and the woman. If the man "went bad", find out why. See what's making the marriage impossible.

They don't do what? Some priests are oldschool Catholics aswell, and they've abused children. Does that mean the church should keep them because there's a commitment? No offense, but why should you keep your promise to a man who treats you like you're garbage? Because the pope says so?

Yes, the church has tolerated some criminal acts among it's clergy. There's no excuse and those guilty should have been handed over to authorities. At the time all this was happening, sadly, child abuse wasn't prosecuted like it is today. Oprah hadn't yet liberated the masses and most people didn't discuss such issues openly.

This hasn't much to do with the sanctity of marriage within the church. Catholics take it very seriously. In some families, a divorce is positively scandalous. A married man or woman has little choice in such families. The church exerts a lot of pressure. Catholics are not as likely to divorce as members of other denominations because of this pressure.

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

That's why we should start the "spirit of cooperation" propaganda campaign, to encourage everyone to get along and work for the mutual benefit of the other :)

Love / Need Advice: I have fallen in love with a Polish woman... [65]

Oh, and how is she committed when she wants to leave him? Why should she commit herself to a husband who doesn't want to take care of her, himself and their kids?

Um, aren't the kids seventeen and twenty? She's the one who married the guy, so you would have to ask her what made her marry him in the first place. Those kids are almost grown. Most people would say screw the marriage, but these people are old school catholic and they don't do that.

Catholics can divorce, they just can't remarry because, according to the church, once you marry, you are married in the eyes of God to the same person forever and ever. If you get a divorce, you are still married in the eyes of God and remarrying can only mean adultry to God. This is why Catholics can never remarry. If you choose to stick with this woman, you will be living in what the church calls adulterous state. I, personally, would never go out with some married dude. With all the men and women out there, why would someone want to waste time with someone who is already committed to someone else?

If this woman is a devout catholic, you might not be able to convince her divorcing her husband is a good idea.

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

There already is something of that kind.....Berlin (we love us), Paris (French love us), Madrid (Spanish love us)...Rome (Italians love us)...I dunno about Moscow...what about Warsaw???

Is it really love? Most countries want what other countries have. I wouldn't call it love.

News / Poles and rest of us needs strong Poland [49]

It would be good for Poland and for the rest of Slavic world if as much as possible Poles from Polish diaspora decide to come back to Poland and resettle there. Poland needs all her children.

My belief as all Poles should just come to the US and live here. That way we can all be together

News / Poland - the least liked German neighbour. [210]

Now that Poland has no national football team whatsoever and most good Poles play in the Bundesliga or even for the german Mannschaft anyhow we should build a common polish/german football team both countries can cheer on and wave flags for!

That's a great idea! One football team for both countries could build relationships between the two and give a mutual goal.

Poles and Germans would be good neighbors only when Germany become border region of Anglo-Germanic world and Poland leading power of Slavic Confederation.

Only if they hold regular banquets and food exchange parties.

We need to get these Germans and Poles together, visiting each others countries and promoting an open dialogue and mutual benefactorship. This way the countries can help one another and learn to appreciate each other.

News / Hydraulic Fracturing in Poland. [14]

We have lots of shale over here, so, no, the pros do not outweigh the cons. Contamination causes neuropathy and cancer, and you can't put a price tag on that. The more wells, the more problems, unless these problems are addressed and dealt with, first.

News / Hydraulic Fracturing in Poland. [14]

Does Poland have any shale beds? If so, will hydraulic fracturing be welcomed as a way of capturing the natural gas in the shale beds? How do Poles feel about this method of extraction, which involves hundreds of gallons of water and volatile compounds?

Do Poles worry the process will contaminate ground water and compromise air quality with all those produced water pits and condensation tanks hanging around, or will there be more strigent guidelines than here in the states?

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

Most people agree, warm or room temperature beer is yucky! Maybe there's no ice in Poland because there aren't any ice trays?

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

If you really like Polish culture and people, it's not a waste of time to learn Polish. It can be fun and theraputic, learning a different lingo. It's not easy to find Polish lessons and opportunities to take Polish culture classes in the US. You'd have to go to a University with a Polish landguage department for that and not all Universities have them. Most public Universities only offer French, German, Spanish, maybe some Russian. You are lucky if you can find Italian. There's oodles of Spanish classes.

This can make it tough for people wanting to learn Polish. If you do start, for goodness sakes, don't quit.

Love / Are there Polish women who date black guys? [281]

No he offends people by coming to live here and stealing girls who otherwise would have dated a white guy.

It's the woman's choice as much as it is his. If a Polish woman decides to date a black guy, it's a fifty-fifty deal, between the man and the woman, so you can't single the dude out and blame him. Ask yourself, why does your culture produce women who want to date blacks? The answer is, it happens everywhere, in all cultures. There's always people who marry outside their ethnicity or race. It just happens and you should mind your own business and accept it. There isn't anything you can do about it. It's not your choice.

Life / Children in Krakow Apartment Playgrounds [21]

My god - the noise is simply atrocious tonight!

Oh please, don't be such a grouch. Kids have every right to play in a playground. Maybe your apartment shouldn't be so close by. What do you expect, anyway?

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

That's when the old Testament Jews were in Israel, with their various groups, Saducees and Pharisees. There were people who lived in caves and baptized themselves regularly. There were lots of Jews in Israel, then.

UK, Ireland / What do you hate about England and English people? [142]

People can look after their own teeth without having to even go near a dentist six monthly, it's just about taking care of them. In the UK it can cost you a fortune for even a check-up, privately or through the NHS.

It helps to go every six months to get the tartar scraped off. It is a matter of brushing and flossing, that's a big part of it, but cleaning is just as important.

It's true, there are people with uncared for teeth everywhere, including here, but for a while, all we saw of Britain were people with exceptionally bad teeth. We aren't used to seeing uncared for teeth on television, so the stereotype was born. Now, you see more British with exceptionally well cared for teeth, so, perhaps people's perceptions will change.

UK, Ireland / What do you hate about England and English people? [142]

The only thing about English is they need more dentists. I've seen some shows lately with English people (reality shows) and was impressed! One woman had glistening white teeth, better than Regis Philbin's. Maybe the trend is toward dentistry.

Every English person I ever saw on Public Television has bad teeth. My friend's English bf had flawless teeth because he inherited bulletproof enamel, but that was because of genetics, a rare fluke.

Yawn..the old "English have bad teeth" rant again!

You're right, people generally have bad teeth, which is why we run to the dentist and orthodontist and get them straightened, cleaned, crowned, you name it. Then, there's whitening so they look unnaturally gleamy.

The British seemed to be avoiding this trend but lately, I have seen improvements on various television shows with British reality actors.

Life / Talking over people in conversations; is it a Polish trait? [41]

The only time I ever do that is when someone is going on and on and something pops in my mind and I know if I don't say it that moment, I'll forget what it is. It might be really simportant, too. Sometimes when someone is talkig, what they say reminds me of something important I need to tell them.

It is considered rude to interrupt. In my family, people don't want me to interrupt them, but they do it to me all the time and a double standard is ruder than interrupting.
