News / Which modern developments harm Poland? [83]

workaholism,

seems to be forced on some workers

Jerry Springer type crap

one doesn't have to watch it. the beauty of tv is choice.

reality shows,

i quite enjoy some of them

extreme sports,

a lot of skill involved. plus steel balls for some of those folk

MTV

plenty of choice

pûrn,

a little pûrn never harmed anyone.

in some places, example Wroclaw, there is no vision when it comes to architecture

Study / The worst of Polish education. No wonder Polish universities are bottom of the list. [142]

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8493132.stm

"But pupils are also being targeted by websites openly selling "exam cheat equipment", including concealed ear-pieces to receive information."

OK, now i have found a link that shows/explains what i'm on about.

I would like to know for sure, if earpieces are used in Poland.

Study / The worst of Polish education. No wonder Polish universities are bottom of the list. [142]

I cannot for the life of me understand why students have to go and sit exams.

i'm beginning to wonder too. i understand that with some exams the percentage pass rate is so low that the exams have to be dumbed down the second time around.

the real problem is caused by the need for a degree in the first place. most students seem to attend university for the free ride. and they get through on a wing and a prayer.

Study / The worst of Polish education. No wonder Polish universities are bottom of the list. [142]

yesterday i was talking to a university student who said that they had problems with recent exams.
this person failed at least one exam. I asked what the problem was and i was told by this person that they didn't have a crib sheet, didn't use a phone and didn't have a radio.

being a little confused by the mention of a radio i let the comment go.

today i was chatting to someone from university and i mentioned the radio. "it's not a radio. it's spyware" i was told. (an earpiece and mic.)

so it seems that cheats have moved on. i was also informed that invigilators are aware of this problem and that it has been going on for a couple of years. moreover, when these radio cheats are spotted they are then seated together... as this disrupts the signal.

students are also photographing or copying the test paper (when the test is done on a computer) and then sending it to an outside source. they then wait and copy the reply.

this is all well organized through private forums and facebook etc.

When two unconnected people tell me about this i imagine that there must be some truth in it.

Question: in the opinion of students in Poland, what is the truth ?

Australia / Difficult situation with moving (Australia-Poland) [37]

There's a small chance that if he's faced with a real choice between her or Poland that he'll pick her

probably what the OP wants to hear or expects to hear.

it seems to me that the OP might be looking for a backdoor. after all she is going to look damn foolish to many members of her family and friends if she returns home without him.

whatever his reasons. if he can't explain them or show some effort then he is in the wrong marriage.

He has barely any friendly contact with his family here and no career prospects, Uni long gone finished... What is his problem?

oz is a long way to go without a career.

Life / Doda's spiritual change [9]

.What is your opinion?

in short: she has grown up.

plus, i will not fault a person for showing concern and then acting on it in a positive way.

Love / Polish traditions and parents (I was dating this Polish guy..) [72]

that is where we met. we met online

the point is that u are trying to understand him. he is playing the field and giving u lame excuses.
if i were to find someone online and continue to look... then that's playing the field and shows that i don't take anyone seriously.

i'm willing to wager that even when u thought u were an item, he was still online.
his mother may like u, but that is just a side issue.
read the above posts. the guy is a clown.

Genealogy / Help: Looking for family history from Wroclaw/Deutsch Hammer [10]

i doubt i can help u much. but it is worthwhile checking old maps and then using a modern map to find an address. with google earth or similar u might even find an old, family property still standing.

there are records offices in wroclaw. but there again some of the records u want might actually be in germany.

for church records u need exact info... name of church, location etc.

at some point when applying for records u will have to show a family link and give a good reason for receiving such records.

Love / Polish traditions and parents (I was dating this Polish guy..) [72]

my question is polish parents really strict on who ther children marry does it have to be polish girls if everyone else in there family is polish?

all the people i know have partners of their own choosing.

most parents have hopes and give advice to their children, don't they ?

However, Kris007 echos my thoughts. walk away with dignity.

Life / Anyone else suffering from mosquito bites in Poland? [52]

Why dont you keep your place cleaner? ... in this way the problem will be less. Use good and effective products to daily clear your home... just an honest suggestion.

Read the first post again, dimwit.

u think the government were going to spray the city because my house might be dirty.

Travel / PKP (Polish National Railway) is a turn off [47]

Does nobody complain in Poland?

i do

Is it regarded as pointless

nope. i complained and the young woman found that she'd just worked her last shift.

i'd rather not see too much improvement with regard to carriages. i really don't want to pay more. and contrary to belief, a frequently used service is not cheap. it is only with the special offers that i'm able to travel long distance regularly. length of journey measured by short period of time is more important than comfort for me.
