Real Estate / WOODEN HUNTERS TOWERS ON MY LAND in POLAND.....is it legal....? [59]

I thought you were going to move shortly to Russia? I mean you are already moving to your "Russian lady" during the last two years...

In this case why to bother about this wooden construction.
And that FSB story sounds to me very strange.

News / How NOT to do European Politics, part 94: Ziobro slams PO domestic policy in EU parliament [11]

But then PIS is a party made up by small-minded simpletons. In most EU countries during these six months the "normal" parties rally to put a cohesive and balanced image of their country to the rest of the EU.

Nobody can expect from "laptop" ziobro to follow that lead.
Anyway it is good to see that PIS is an auto-destructive mode. Too bad they also are smearing the image of Poland in the EU.

Love / Talking to a Polish man on "ty" terms [13]

You can switch from Pani Doroto to Doroto

No my question was, is there a difference between "Pani" and "Pani Doroto" ? Is that already a gradation?

Law / I got an EU permanent residence permit and it is a flimsy piece of paper [26]

I had a discussion with friends lately. They claim that the permanent residence permit I have (meaning the pink paper) is not a Karta Pobytu. It is true that on the document is mentioned that "this document confirms the right to stay in Poland permanently' and nowhere is written "Karta Pobytu".

But as it replaces my old KP, does it not mean it has the same value?
By the way I am very surprised there are still officials who do not know it. Two weeks ago a police officer asked what it was, and yesterday at Citibank they asked me if it was a photocopy :)

Love / Talking to a Polish man on "ty" terms [13]

In this case, when would you switch from "Pan?Pani" to for example "Pani Doroto" so adding the person's first name to it?

Life / Internet speed in Poland - Does it do what is says on the tin?? [18]

I had the same issue when I upgraded my Neostrada from 1 to 2 Mb. Speed kept 1 MB. When I phoned them, they explained it was because of the fact that you by law you have a certain period (1 or 2 weeks, cannot remember it) to cancel your "umowa". And in that time for some bizarre reasons they were not obliged to do the upgrade.

After that time elapsed the speed would as promised. And it was.
Strange way of thinking somehow :)

History / Polabia back to Slavs? [113]

Again, Sobieski, Torq and others, do these taxes ever include "back taxes" of property once in foreign hands, or, are they solely limited to properties on which one is currently residing etc.??

We are talking here about everyday matters, meaning a EU citizen earning his salary in another EU country, and where to pay taxes on that. What you mean with "property once in foreign hands"? You mean like a German citizen whose house in Breslau was stolen from him in 1945? Or a Pole whose property in Lwów was stolen from him?

Maybe we could stick to the present situation?

History / Polabia back to Slavs? [113]

Where they work I guess - the taxes are probably deducted automatically off their wages.
However, I'm not 100% sure about that. Interesting question.

EU regulations stipulate you have to pay taxes in the country where you reside officially.

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

Simply, Poland being outside the EU, being able to: produce food, for example, without EU quotas,

The farmers would shoot you, I think..taking away the farming subsidies...Producing food for sure.. selling to whom and for which price?
Of course if you divide every grant by the population of a country you always end up with low figures. That is doubletalk.
What matters what these subsidies enable Poland to do.

Genealogy / Are Scandanavians a mix between Polish & Iberian stock? [70]

According to OP, everybody and everything worthwhile in Europe is 1.Polish 2. Polish originated 3.Polish influenced. Interesting thesis. What about the Serbs - they have been forgotten somewhere :)

Are you sure the battle of Salamis was not fought by Poles?

News / Poland's Kaczynski blames Russia for brother's death [30]

delphiandomine:
Seems to me as if he has simply run out of ideas - either that, or the obsession with revenge has finally boiled over.

revenge for what?

For letting them have a spacious flat in Żolibórz during commie time ?

Life / Cost of delivering a child in Poland [30]

I've got to say that I'm becoming less and less impressed by Medicover.

To be honest that is something I also notice recently. Still they are better as NFZ. (which is no opinion on the NFZ medical staff, they cannot help it that the system is hopeless).

Life / Cost of delivering a child in Poland [30]

My operation was appendicitis. Operating theater was something from Star Wars. Post-operation five stars. (very pretty nurses :) ) Had my own room with even a flat screen TV. Which was not essential, but what was for me essential the feeling that you were in good and caring hands.

Nobody lying on a corridor...A smiling nurse checking every hour or so if you need something. At night absolutely silent, and so clean...
I decided there and then that my "abonament" is very much worth it. I prefer to stay as afar away from the NFZ as I can.

Life / Cost of delivering a child in Poland [30]

In the Medicover hospital here in Warsaw (where I had last year a subscription-covered operation) they charge you around 12000 PLN as I remember. Best care in Poland though and not getting kicked out after two days or lying in the corridors. And not being obliged to pay bribes to everybody, from the doorman to the surgeon.
