Another set

All my favourite things are in the chicken.

What can you do in Scotland?
I can see Lassie.

I love going to my grandma on holiday because I love her foot.

She had an accident. She was hit by a "Star."

People were hatching noisily, while music was pouring out of the jukebox.

Ghosts are standing around the car, looking at the bride.

Bagingham Palace is a famous landmark.

She behaves like a dam.

He is wearing a liver jacket

I thank from mountain for that:-)

That would suit the thread with Polish idioms in direct English translation more. :)

History / Why is Poland weaker than Russia? [390]

Has anybody already mentioned what Bismarck said? Russia is never as strong or as weak as it looks.

Life / Worst aspects of living in Poland? [82]

just to be faced by incessantly barking dogs. I would gladly shoot the fokkers.

Dear guys, you must understand one thing. Keeping a dog is a sign of Polish individualism. When you buy/build a house, you do it to stay away from your compatriots. To make that distance bigger, you put a fence around your property. Then you get a dog to protect the fence and property within. At last, you may feel safe from intruding Polish neighbours, families, acquaintances, friends, anybody.

And now we may easily switch to another aspect of hard life in Poland - intrusive neighbours, family members and other people too. Shorty speaking, Poles can be and like being nosy and prefer not to mind their own business. :)

Life / Worst aspects of living in Poland? [82]

plus there seems to be an awful lot of strays or abandoned dogs around

No, these dogs are not stray, they always belong to somebody, but often leave on their own and roam the streets.

in the PRL days the puppies were a source of income to many families.

Well, I wouldn`t say many. I had a big family and nobody bred dogs or any other animals. Neither in my mates` families when in primary or high school. I only met a member of a dog breeding family at a uni.

@Pawian, most private apartment blocks in the UK won't let you keep pets of any kind.

I suppose so, I once read a Swedish book for kids and a boy had big problems with keeping a squirrel he had found. Half the book was devoted to boys` ways of protecting the animal from nasty haters. I was shocked reading that - how could people be so cruel? :):)

Sorry, no, it is not a hybrid but a seperate species.

But for your typically Polish persistence, another picture: :)

What is going on?

Still stumped with the penguin shot, it doesn't look as if it's about to jump as it looks to be facing the wrong way.

Actually, it was ready to jump. Why?

The fruit looks more raspberry than strawberry like as the seeds aren't on the outside.

Sorry, no, but you are close with those two species. :)

Who is advertising it as American? It was bred in the Scotland by a Welshman!

Yes, you are right. I am trying to find this US origin now but can`t. I was pretty sure of it, now I see it was a mistake. Probably because I always order 2, 3 dozen plants at a time and I could somehow associate it with American blueberry.

The last plant picture of first 2016 series

Which fruit bush turns so red in autumn? Again, no tricks.

Life / Worst aspects of living in Poland? [82]

.often people in multi storey blocks of flats own big dogs.

Does it mean people in GB don`t keep big dogs in small apartments or blocks? After so many years in the forums, I have already learnt Poland isn`t an isolated island and the same stupid things happen elesewhere too.

News / Congrats to Poland - your people realize industry is important. [4]

who wants to visit places like Poznan, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Warsaw, etc. and run into native English speakers from the UK? E

Has a British/English person ever hurt you? It must have been a terrible experience because you seem to be so sore about them....

Life / Worst aspects of living in Poland? [82]

Hey, I like that barking at night. It allows me to sleep well because I feel like in my childhood when we spent each summer in the countryside. Those were happy moments and I like to relive them today on our farm. On condition the dogs are far away and I don`t have to smell them.

Practically nothing apart from dog droppings on pavements.
Also, I hate when owners let their dogs jump all over you and they think it is amusing.
Or when dogs run after a kid`s ball and smear it with their saliva.
Generally, dogs` odour is repulsive, too. They should use some deodorants or sth.
When I see those signs which ban dogs to sh.it on the grass, I get an esthetic shock.

If not for dogs, life in Poland would be really fine.

Actually it is both. :)

No, it is not Royalty or Brandywine. It is Glen Coe, advertised as American invention. They have strange flavour so I am not going to multiply my original 4 bushes. I prefer golden rasps, the sweetest of all.

Fruit continued: this is not a strawberry. What then?

Is it a Polish variety of rasp or is it that it's simply grown in Poland?

Its origin isn`t Polish, that is why I offered the riddle hoping someone else from our circle knows or even grows it.

You poor old pet, never mind, spring is coming and you should get a nice rush of energy :)

Yes, especially when final exams are over. :):)

JP2?

Yes.

Is it called Polana, a particularly large variety? Btw, it's "what' is this called, not 'how' is this called -

No, not Polana which is red, like a regular raspberry. Look at the colour of mine.
Thanks for this how, yes, silly mistake, I was very tired yesterday, I cancelled my last tutorial and came back home earlier than usual.

Sorry, no, horse chestnuts are another genus than true chestnuts. Besides, I said that tree is very rare here, while horse chestnuts are common. But you get a point for perseverance. :)

Bonus
If we talk about plants, are there any gardeners and orchard owners here?
How is this raspberry called?

Yes, Polski Fiat 125p. Point for you.

Not Jaruzelski, another guy who was on much friendlier terms with Wałęsa than Jaruzelski.

In the meantime:

What is this tree, quite rare in Poland?

It looks like an attempt at a limousine created by Skoda or Lada back in the 1980s

Nope, it was made in Poland, but not by Skoda or Lada. Look at its front, it`s the same as the original car, mass produced here.

As for Lech Wałęsa, no, but you are close, think about another guy who often met (with) Wałęsa in 1980s.

Yes, my teacher! Good.

As for the old usage of receipt, now we know where the Polish borrowing comes from .

Bonus for you, I virtually choked with laughter after hearing this one:

History / If Poles were antisemitic, would they ...? [240]

Anti-Semitism is, like all those other isms, a European invention. We benefit from Jews as movie directors, composers, singers, and TV personalities.

That`s nice.

Israelis and Jews are two different things

But for most Poles there is no difference.
