Life / What are the most common antidepressants prescribed in Poland? [23]

Zoloft and other ssris/nsris have no recreational value. I doubt he is seeking a buzz. If he wanted to get high off meds he can purchase a pack of codeine pills over the counter for a dollar or two. Prozac, Zoloft, and all those drugs dont get you high. The way they work is it builds up in your brain to change how your serotonin is processed. The reason why many people.feel depression is due to low serotonin levels and/or their flow is uneven. A person who starts taking such drugs wont feel their depression going away until a week or two after taking the drug. And it's not like the personnfeels high once they start working they simply feel more normal and don't have as bad episodes of depression.

Only go on an antidepressants if you really really have bad depression. The withdrawal is awful and people report feeling 'brain zaps' when they get off.

Private practice is far cheaper than in the West. Personally I think the psychiatric treatment in poland is a bit behind the West. Preventative care dentistry and treatment for more

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

So when you say that America has all the top universities the evidence suggests otherwise.

I never said that America has ALL the top unis - I said that America has more top schools than any other country and the EU, according to various rankings,

Stanford has 10 Nobel Laureates and the French Uni has 13.

No employer interviewing a candidate cares or asks how many nobels their uni won, how many rhodes scholars attended, etc. And University of Chicago has the most nobel prize winners even though its a tiny school of around 2k students. It also has the highest suicide rate which some correlate with the extremely competitive nature and elite standards.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

Yea high school and grade school is on average better in the eu than us. No ones denying that. You have tons of kids who don't care about their education and drop out or get pregnant or whatever. That doesn't happen in the eu. It's very rare for a girl to get pregnant in her 3rd yesr of high school or for guys to drop out at 16 so they can spend more time with their friends and gangbang. The teachers dont give a **** about those kids. They're just babysitting them and making sure they don't stab each other and no one snuck a gun in. They pay attention to the kids that actually want to learn. And theres tons of programs for those kids. Those are the ones who go off to college, along with the aforementioned kids who care nothing about education they go to college too provided theyre good at sports. Most of them end up majoring in parks and recreation or sports management. A tiny minority will go pro, the rest will end up making $15 an hour at the park district.

Of course with private schools its different because they select who gets in so naturally you don't have kids who don't care about their education. But if their parents cant afford 15k a year to send them theyll have to go to a public school where they can be just as successful provided they actually want to graduate and go to college.

Students are treated like customers youre right about that. Teachers are very open, will spend a lot of time outside of class and even office hours, and they want you to succeed. The teachers actually want you to succeed and will go above and beyond to help you. Of course not at every uni and not every teacher, but in general those at the top unis definitely. I know I can call the director or dean of the mba program and theyd answer whatever questions I have. Same with teachers if i email them about some hw ill get a response within an hour or two.

Nonetheless, I wish I could get a refund for my bachelors. I really feel like I didn't learn the most useful things about business esp since 1 of my majors was marketing, other one was international business. I didn't learn anything about things like building websites, administering crm software, seo, analytics, etc. Business statistics was really the only undergrad level class that i actually ended up using in my career. Everything else I learned was theory and definitions basically. All the practical real world stuff I didn't learn till I started working. Although my experience with MBA is totally different and every class even the ethics one I learned things that are useful and I can actually apply in my career. Not so much with bachelors. I think my experience wouldve been different though if i stayed a biology/pre-med major.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

I know I couldn't edit it to 2 time ran out..

Still american unis dominate any list created by a known publication. QS is not known, no ones heard of it.... cnbc, Princeton review, forbes, ime etc are however known and all have more american unis in top spots than european ones.no ones heard of qs it doesn't even come up on the first page when searching google

timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2018/world-ranking#!/page/0/length/25/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats

forbes.com/sites/karstenstrauss/2017/09/20/the-worlds-top-universities-in-2017/amp

I'm polish american, never said I wasnt..... nonetheless its polish first and foremost.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

Yes they may have a more comprehensive education but its rankings and prestige that matters at the end of the day, which i cited earlier and which show theres far more us schools in the top 100 worldwide than european schools. Employers dont care how much you learned or how well rounded your education was. Even GPA doesnt matter to employers. What matters is if you got the degree or not and where you got it from. And theres far more top us universities ranked in the top 100 than european ones. Us ivy leagues are consistently ranked higher not to mention stanford, university of chicago, and all the other top schools not in ivy league. How many top european schools are there in the tip 100? 10? 2 or 3 in uk, insead, 1 in Spain, 1 in France, 1 in Switzerland, 1 in Holland and that's it.

Some countries, like Ireland and poland, dont even make the top 100. Trinity is ranked around 116 and that's regarded as the best school. Northwestern is ranked higher and that's the safety school for people who don't get into the ivies.

Yes primary and secondary school are important while youre attending them but they make zero.dofference once a person has gone through college or graduate school. No analyst or banker or doctor or attorney gets asked where they went to grade school or high school in an interview, unless the interviewer happens to be from the same area and is merely curious. What counts is where you went to college, not grade school or high school.

Congrats you guys made the list! There's 1 european school, a British one of course, on the top 10 according to cnbc. Naturally all the rest are american

cnbc.com/2017/10/24/the-10-best-universities-in-the-world.html

And almost every ranking is similar in that there's far more us unis represented than european ones. Poland Ireland amd a dozen other countries never make the list.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

Polish-american, first and foremost polish though of course. And indeed we did discuss it, where i cited numerous sources showing that top american unis are superior.

And what does secondary school have to do with it? Absolutely nothing. Everyone knows us primary and secondary schools are terrible no ones denying that. You have a ton of kids that want nothing to do with education and drop out. Even the ones that do finish and have no plans for college can barely read and write let alone solve calculus problems or balance chemistry equations. If a person didnt go to college then yes you could compare secondary school quality. Seeing as most people on this forum have a college education it makes far more sense to compare colleges as that would be their highest education attainment, not a grade or high school. Eben when you go for a job interview no one cares where you went to primary or secondary scholl unless youre interviewing to be a janitor or ditch digger. For white collar jobs people care about your last educational attainment - college. Not primary or secondary.

A charge and indictment occurs prior to setting foot in a court.

@Ziemowit
None of your business but since you like sticking your nose in strangers affairs, case dismissed - nolle prosequi

@kaprys
Cops will almost never give out info over the phone esp of its am active investigation or if op has a warrant.

Do not contact them yourself. Get a polish lawyer. Anything that you say on the phone or in person to a cop can be used against you. **** the police in us and everywhere else

UK, Ireland / Letter from Polish Prosecutor??!! [34]

The polish courts and esp prosecutors office is corrupt. The real suspect may have bribed someone and now they need to charge someone else even if the evidence is flimsy and its a losr caust in a court. As long as they charge someone they did their job regardless of how things go at trial. You have the right to remain silent and not tell them a word. Hire a polish attorney to call/write the prosecutor and tell them till you have more info youre not coming in to talk and drive home the fact you haven't been.to poland since a teenager. The reason theyre not telling you anything is two reasons theyre following iprotocol of its an active investigation but even more likely they may not want to tell you anything so you come in and then they arrest you on the spot.

A private investigator will tell you if you have a warrant as well or not. Depending on their connections they may even be able.to find out exactly what the police have on you and what is in the indictment.

The amount of innocent people that are wrongfully convicted is staggering. Atleast in us and many other countries if you're later found innocent youll get millions for doing a bid unjustly. That is not the case with poland. In fact they may even purposely keep you there to avoid embarrassment.

Honestly I wouldn't go back to poland anytime soon as if there is a warrant youll be arrested at the airport.

You need a Polish attorney and pi, not a british one. They won't be of any help as one its outside their jurisdiction and two its a different legal system.

Work / Salary Expectation in Wroclaw - IT job in a big MNC [2]

Anything 10k zs and over is a good salary and you'll be able to save quite a bit of money. 10k zs puts you at the top of polish society. You can easily save around 3000 zs a month provided you rent a small cheap apartment

Wroclaw is a great city that's where im from

News / Polonophobia rising in Israel. [144]

They don't care because their sugar daddy, the USA will always bail them out. It's like the young hot wife who spends all day screwing dudes closer to her age and putting powder in her nose because she knows her geezer husband will always take her back anyway since she's a status symbol, a trophy wife.

At least in that case it's a symbiotic relationship. I don't really see how the US benefits from Isreal. Politicians including Trump say that Israel is a great ally but I don't see it. Allies don't kill other allies' sailors and civilians...

Life / Relocating Family and Business to Poland - I'm from America, lived in Switzerland [5]

@Robert511

Congrats on the move. You will absolutely love it in Poland. I'm a bit younger than you and am actually in the process of moving my assets over to Poland as well from the U.S. The costs of living are far lower than in the U.S. (where I'm currently living) and the lifestyle is totally different.

There are many people (including on this forum) that live in Warsaw and would probably be more than willing to teach a group Polish. I don't think there's really any US to PL expats but there are a few UK to PL expats. You'll probably want to hire at least 1 person though that knows the city well, knows the bureaucracy and how to navigate institutions. Although Poland is a modern country, the courts/bureaucracy are a bit backwards and foreign people generally don't get the same treatment as locals. Oftentimes legal matters are decided based on the most arbitrary things...

Honestly though you'll probably want to send the kids to a college abroad once they get to that age unless they plan to stay in Poland as well also. There are several reputable business schools in Warsaw but they're generally not too well known outside of the country.

News / Polonophobia rising in Israel. [144]

Uk is anti semetic and many parts of europe. It is getting worse not less.

Not just UK but Germany, France, etc. The Zionist government is taking advantage of that by offering to move Jews to Israel. They provide them housing, subsidies, jobs, etc. - all paid for by US taxpayers of course. The only stipulation is that they moved to a settlement deemed illegal by the UN. There's a good vice documentary about this. These European Jews are just pawns of their Zionist government to gobble up more and more of the west bank - house by house, person by person. And more and more Palestinians are losing their homes - flat out being bulldozed. The others are constantly harassed, live in apartheid just like in S. Africa - killings, segregation, and all, beaten, shot at, etc. And forget about the Israeli police intervening and telling their fellow Zionist to stop assaulting people and vandalizing homes. And if a Jewish criminal from the US is wanted, forget about Israel extraditing them back.

I don't think that there is a more corrupt hypocritical nation full of supremacists.... Israel is truly in a class of its own. I know black people exaggerate about racism but you should read how Azelia Banks when she was there just now to do a show . It really takes a special government and people to shoot kids for throwing rocks at tanks, bulldozing innocent people's homes with no compensation - an American activist was killed this way. She thought if she stayed in the house that there would be no way the IDF would bulldoze it with her inside. Well, they did - and she died of course. Condemnation from America? Of course not... Reports about it in the Zionist controlled and owned MSM - don't make me laugh....

sputniknews.com/viral/201805091064296729-racism-israel-us-rapper
haaretz.com/israel-news/citing-racism-rapper-azealia-banks-vows-to-never-visit-israel-again-1.6072783

And the Jews wonder why there's anti-Semitism and why some nations like Yemen's Zaidi's have 'Death to Israel' written on their flag.. Maybe if they stopped killing innocent people all the time and stopped bulldozing and stealing peoples' homes they'd stop... And these same ******** who bulldoze people's homes with NO compensation expect for Polish taxpayers to give them compensation for properties they lost during WW2 due to an INVASION from 2 foreign countries...

Seriously, we need a politician in Poland that will never put up with this Zionist bullshit again...

Work / Job offer in Lodz, gross 1000€/4260PLN. Apartment and healthcare paid for. Good in Poland? [46]

general retirement age

Nope, the only requirement is that you've paid up for 20-25 years. You do not have to wait till 60-65 to receive a pension with KRUS. There's plenty of people with KRUS receiving a pension in their late 40's 50's. Other positions are eligible for such pensions as well - mostly government positions. The problem is though the pension is tiny.

nor did I know that involvement with commercial companies also disqualified you automatically.

No sh1t... hence the KRUS acronym - name R standing for ROLNICZEGO - meaning agricultural...

Also the laws and rules are totally different if you've had agricultural land for several generations/pre-1991... BUT the new laws as far as sale/transfer of agricultural land still apply.The whole purpose of this was to protect family owned farms and help out the people who were screwed over by the USSR - namely exiled, forced to work, etc.

@kaprys

After paying krus for 25 year, i believe 20.for females, you are eligible for pension. Only a few other positions in poland have thay for example prison workers. You go 10 mins outside of wroclaw and the small towns aka wioski almost all households have animals to varying degrees. Some will have a few chickens and rabbits, some will have dozens or even hundreds of various animals.

@maf

No **** thats why we only purchase pigs when there's a large gathering and its usually for a pig roast. With chickens though thats the only way we buy them.

Not what you first said.

What are you talking about? My exact words, the first time I brought this up I wrote -

You can go to just about any small town and buy all the fresh meat you want. Some will even slaughter the animal right in front of you.

I never said that you can go to a market and they'll slaughter it in front of you - I don't know where you got that from. I specifically wrote that you can go to small towns, buy fresh meat there, and SOME will even slaugther the animal in front of you... I never even once used the word 'market.' Of course they don't slaughter animals in the markets. At targi (open air bazaars) you can buy fresh meat but it is usually already salted.

Work / Job offer in Lodz, gross 1000€/4260PLN. Apartment and healthcare paid for. Good in Poland? [46]

Yes you absolutely can in poland. I can think of 4 5 villages just around wroclaw that will allow you to buy meat that way. No irs not every farmer but if they have animals for sale most will absolutely sell you freshly slaughtered meat. That just shows how little you know about polish society and rural markets, understandable since you dont speak the language you are unable to communicate with the majority of polish society. So even if there was a sign advertising live poulty, butchers, etc you wouldnt even be able to read it. Next youll tell me people don't sell fresh picked berries and mushrooms on the side of the roads...

Theres a few places even in major us cities that sell live poulty and butcher it in front of you esp in Latino neighborhoods. And in poland if you go to the wioski they absolutely do. I've bought rabbits lamb goats and especially pigs and chickens that way plenty of times. Just about any farmer/rancher thay has livestock for sale and will do it for you as it makes no difference to him whether he sells you the animal alive or butcheted, as long as theyre fairly compensated for the extra time. Some even specialize in preparing pigs for a roast. There's even some places that go the extra step to make sure the animals were slaughtered in a kosher manner although thats far rarer. I usually obtain meat that way for larger gatherings except with chicken which is really the only way I buy it because well bbq the breasts and wings and use the rest for rosol.

@kaprys

I should add that they have to know you or at least feel confident you're not some inspector esp if you want it kosher as theres new laws against kosher slaughter. In the old days esp in prl thats how people esp in the countryside would obtain meat and even up to eu entry. If a random person who speaks little polish comes in theyll be hesitant to fulfill your request. If you're polish and they've known your family since prl its no problem. You just have to ask and pay simple as that.

And yes, KRUS does offer more benefits than ZUS. With KRUS I can even start receiving a pension at 45.

Work / Job offer in Lodz, gross 1000€/4260PLN. Apartment and healthcare paid for. Good in Poland? [46]

Career advice? The dude asked if its a good salary or not. I told him almost exactly what jon wrote - with the apartment its an average (statistically on the higher end as most salaries are around 4400 4600 zs in poland). Second, since he appears to be concerned about money and how far his salary will take him I stated he could work in engineering IF money is more important than starting a new career. Considering that it seems getting into finance is most important to him, I told him the same exact thing as jon - take the opportunity as its a good way to get your foot in the door and with the apartment included. Finance is a low paying career at the beginning but those who put in the hours and make the right connections will become 1% within a few years especially if they work in the IB or wealth management divisions.

I know you're not an economist but perhaps you should familiarize yourself with opportunity costs and specialization. What that means is in a world of finite resources, people focus on what they're best at and outsource things that have a low opportunity cost. So yes, I dont bother picking up imports or shipping exports, nor do i sit in the currency exchange or do my taxes in pl because the labor cost is very low. I can pay an accountant less than $100 to do all my paperwork so why would I want to spend hours doing it myself? And fyi i dont have zus, as an owner of agriculturally zoned land I have a superior insurance known as KRUS.

And second the organic certification is very strict in poland. You can go to just about any small town and buy all the fresh meat you want. Some will even slaughter the animal right in front of you.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

Well dont forget theyre doing the raping too theyre just more low key about it namely a good chunk of the eurocrats, socialists, business people and even home secrataries. I can't count the amount of pedo rings that have been exposed in Europe especially in uk germany and belgium since the 80s and they continue to today. Just recently a mayor of a Belgian town was murdered literally right after making a statement he would expose a pedo network lead by top people in EU. And of course no ones heard of operation perdition from the uk....

This news comes nonstop from western Europe and uk. Every few months theres a new pedo ring busted from the coverup with Thatchers home Secretary and the dutroux case, socialists in belgium, only the fall guys get caught. And those are just what the publix knows about. The millionaires and connected at most get a slap on the rest. None of the people in the wonderland case, one of whom was a prime minister, served more than 30.months and only 2 had to register as sex offenders.

So keep your ******* pedo rings in western Europe with your socialist ministers who publicly advocate love and tolerance but behind closed doors are the most depraved hypocrites in the world. They make the zionists and jihadis look like saints.. ******* children and babies... I just can't wrap my head around that and eben worse they face minor penalties when caught

lived and worked in PL, whereas another person (I'm thinking of a particularly voluble young poster) has not done either.

Just because a rat lives in a stable does not make it a horse. There's plenty of westerners working in gulf states because of the high salaries yet most of them know little about the society, especially if they don't speak Arabic. Whoever said I never lived and worked in Poland? Unlike you, I have businesses in PL and employ Polish people - and no tutoring doesn't count. Also, unlike you I am Polish. You don't even speak Polish so by default you're unable to comprehend all the nuances of Polish society as you're not even able to communicate with Poles who don't speak English, which is the majority of Poland.

This is what confuses me, people seem to give very different answers to the same question.

Obviously your salary is rather average by PL standards - everyone does agree on that. BUT you are getting an apartment provided by the company so that'd basically be the same thing as if he added around 3k at minimum (gross) to the salary. Hence, 7260 PLN gross is considered a decent entry level salary. Also it depends on whether they're putting you up in some crumby studio in an old building or a nice 1 bedroom with floor to ceiling windows, high end appliances, etc. in a modern building.

7k PL gross is actually on the higher end of average - especially for an entry level position. Nonetheless, I think with your skills, language experience, etc you can do a lot better. But you seem like you really want a career change and want to get into finance and you have to start somewhere. All things considered, this isn't a bad start at all. If you had a few years relevant experience in finance like even 3-5 years

Average salary survey - Lodz - averagesalarysurvey.com/łódź-poland

There one guy on there who's an engineer that is reporting 480k gross salary but of course he has significant experience and a master's level education.

A financial accountant reports 38k zloty. Software engineer reports 250k. Accounts payable - kind of similar back office job is reporting 80k zloty which is almost identical to your position. As you can see though if you stuck it out in engineering you'd made considerably more in that field. But again, I'd still look around at other offers since there's a chance you can get a higher entry level salary without experience if you really impress the hiring manager. And at least you'll have something to fall back on, work a few years, then go for something bigger and better in the near future.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

That is a very annoying trait of not just uk but the western world as a whole especially the United States. What's even worse is that they twist things around to make it appear as if they're really helping you. The overthrow of Saddam and the invasion of Iraq is a perfect example. They said theyre spreading freedom and democracy and helping the Iraqi people. Yet the country is worse off than it ever was and far more people died as a result of the us campaign of 'spreading democracy than under Saddam. Ditto with Libya. They think that because theyre wealthy and have a large army they can dictate what people should do and what course a sovereign nation should follow. And then when people resist, they call them terrorists.

Russia and China play this game too but not nearly to the extent of the us and uk. Even in Syria now, russia was asked to intervene by a democratically elected president, America uk etc were not. They are illegally occupying the country just so they can protect their zionist sugar baby and monitor the shia. The west is in decline and everyone knows it - financial, moral, healthwise, with freedom, just every way imaginable. The future will belong to China. They will be the new world empire and indeed theyre colonizing the whole world. Not with soldiers, overthrow, wars etc like the us but with money. The ironic thing is that the Chinese are using own our capitalist globalist system to best the west - and theyre winning.

That's because so many westerners are brainwashed and cant think for themselves. They only know what their favorite news outlet tells them and whatever crap their friends share on Facebook. News / EU confirms it will take action against Poland over court reforms [554]

Yes but neither is nearly as large as the Polish industry nor does it employ as many people or have the same level of political protection, with the exception of Germany which mines even more coal than Poland. Also a lot of Poles want the coal industry to remain as it's been one of the few decent paying jobs an uneducated person can get and it keeps utility prices low. Plus, coal specifically lignite is far cheaper than anything else on the market it's roughly quarter of the cost of natural gas. Until there's an equally priced option that will power 80% 90%+ of Polish households and will employ over 100k people, coal will remain for probably the next 20-30 years as the key energy source.

So the finance/banking sector in Poland has quite a few foreigners in it - especially from Spain, Portugal, and Italy. Honestly though if you have a background in engineering, especially if it's electrical engineering or computers, you'll make waaaaay more money than you would in the banking sector and likely have a better career path as well. Unless it's something you're dead set on and you never want to work any sort of engineering type job ever again, I'd really recommend taking a look at some other job openings in your field. If you have a degree and some good experience you'll get an offer that's likely double if not more than what this bank is offering you. But again, I can totally understand if you want to make a career choice. I started off in medicine studying to be a dentist, worked for a large medical corp, hated it although the money was good, but never looked back and hardly any salary would ever make me go back.

If it's in operations it's likely just a back office position dealing with the retail services of the bank. Is this like an analyst type of position or did they say what your title/position is?

I believe income tax rate is 18% for the first 80k zloty and 32% for over 80k zloty. But with all the zus (which it appears your employer is paying for) it would amount to 30%. Honestly I don't know.
