Life / What are the things which cause culture shock in Poland? [164]

you've never tried chinese, or indian, hungarian, mexican food?
really?

yes, I have many time, I live in Canada, but Poland is not Canada.

i'm a big fan of polish food but i find that it's not very spicy, so it's good to have some indian from time to time or a good spicy pizza or some mexican, although i usually make my mexican coz the 2 mexicans where i live aren't awesome they're ok but not great.

fair enough, I totally understand, but if you lived in a country where ethic food is available then Poland is is kind of bland.

Nazs Klasa was a culture shock for me, what a pile of crap, all it is is photos of people's kids or weddings or their trips to tasteless places like egypt!

if that is all they can pay for, I don't have a problem with that:0

If you're ever in Słupsk, make sure you visit "Karczma pod Kluką"

so true , great place, loved it when I was living there:)

As for ethnic food, since majority of population is Polish I don't see a reason to have other types of food, apart to satisfy the foreigners.

Life / Who's Leaving Poland? [138]

I remember 8 years ago when Krakow was relatively unknown

maybe to you, Krakow has been known for much longer to foreigners then that.

Life / What would YOU do to make life in poland better?? [72]

the way i understood it, he would pay what he currently takes home per month over the next 4 years until he reaches retirement age.

that is a good deal i would think.

Better roads and public transport are needed and quickly,

true

Topless beaches :-)

Poland has them, look closer.

Banning Radio Maria

once the old generation will die down, so will Radio Maryja, at least those older people have something to listen to:)

Better tv shows, waaaay too much american crap on tv, like CSI, House etc.

so true, Polish TV is either political discussion or American shows going back to 1980-90 lol

haha, the guy offered to pay Kaczynski's salary over the next 4 years till he's of retirement age in the agreement that he leaves the Polish government and never comes back. priceless.

do you think that Duck is gonna take it? How much is he offering anyways, or he just said it in the gist.

Travel / Can I take a bus from Szczecin to Wroclaw? [14]

It can be really hit or miss - though anyone expecting much from something called "cheap railway lines" shouldn't complain :P

true, but I luck out both times then:) and since I was expecting much worse, I was nicely surprised:)

Travel / Can I take a bus from Szczecin to Wroclaw? [14]

a day and a half?

no, if it is 6,5 hours on the train to W-wa from Sz-n, then I presume that it will take a bit longer to W-w, depending on the connection.

Just checked, takes up to 6 hours depending on connection, change in Poznan.

I was at the Irish- Polish wedding in Poland and they had great teeth.

News / Poland 2010 ( A bad year ) [27]

Perhaps it will get better for the rest of the year.

>^..^<

it already has. The weather has been great for tourism- at least at the sea side and everywhere else as well. The mud from the flood has dried out a month ago, there is a new president and all David wants is to whine- let him. Just returned from poland a couple of days ago and things are OK there, considering the situation.

Of course I have my peeves about the state of the Polish roads and their drivers, but that is nothing new.

maybe elite is not as important as one might think. That would explain why Poles have just slowly moved on after the tragedy.

Life / As EuroPride visits Warsaw - is it the start of overdue social change in Poland? (homosexuality promotion) [144]

I need to find an article about that..

yes you do and humans are not cows:)

Chemical queers is what they are creating and they do know full well about it. it's one thing for an adult male to get an extra jolt of estrogen (or other things). It will pass. But in children, their bodies will use these bad chemicals as building blocks in place of good nutrition and then it's irreversible.

you should be a scientist.

So it seems football and gay pride parades are out and battle re-enactments are in :-)

so true, males acting up and dressing up.

as usual ....nevertheless here you can say everything unlike the real life ...and there few pearls in ......:)

I write on the net the way I speak in real life, I don't have the need to abuse or offend people who I don't know- it is not fun and it is not fair to them. There are some pearls, but from what i understand those pearls are different for different people:)

What changes ?

being openly gay is a BIG change in Poland, lets not kid ourself about that.

n Poland homosexuals weren't prosecuted, there always were some gays and nobody make a big thing out of it!

they were not because most of them were in closet.

Now you coming and announcing some big changes, what changes ?

I already explained myself.

That minorities problem will be forced on majority?

fighting for minority right have nothing to do with imposing those right on the majority- this is the way I see it. As always, it is the human right issue - nothing less, nothing more.

read my post above your first here ...

OK, I will.

but is still something to explain (the truth) to some, like me :) you can PM me I can keep quiet !

sure, if I ever have the need I will, at the moment I have no need to do that and I better respect my needs, otherwise I am in trouble;)

I would like to know with whom I'm discussing at least basic knowledge about the person ....otherwise I wonder about stuff unrelated to the topic !

on the net you never know who you are discussing things with and that is the nature of the beast. It is your choice to continue to post and discuss things, just like in real life, you can stay, or you can walk away.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

How much of a growing season do you have compared to the USA?

I did not mean veggies and fruits, we have a short growing season- true, but I am buying local during that period, then I buy Florida, Mexico and South America.

We dont pay inflated taxes for everything, like North of the Border.

in case you did not know, Canada operates differently then the US - yes, we have higher taxes, but goes into public health and other good and useful services, no need to compare over 30 million people economy to over 300 million one, is there? We also have excellent public libraries;), where people read.

And when are you going to stop pretending to be a man??

when you start behaving according to your age, which means NEVER;)

Back on topic:

I don't use AC in my place unless I have to, nothing to do with mentality, but with a couple of really bad cases of bronchitis over the last 5 years - not worth it to walk around in summer heat with fever and taking double doses of antibiotics.

News / Poland 2010 ( A bad year ) [27]

The plane crash, while significant in a symbolic way, didn't actually change anything - Poland is no worse because of it.

it was a tragedy that lives were lost. As for whether Poland's situation is worse because of it- time will tell. I just remember the speech of a newly elected German president in Warsaw when he was standing next to new president of Poland and that alone was a sing of new Polish - German relationship in making.

microwaves

makes food soggy

clothes dryers

great invention, but costs a lot

American food

there is American food and there is American food- most of the time the mass production makes it a second category and lacks taste, unless you spend lots of bucks on better quality food- frozen food is not food.

Life / As EuroPride visits Warsaw - is it the start of overdue social change in Poland? (homosexuality promotion) [144]

did you read the posts ?

no, I did not, although I skimmed through, some childish PF stuff ending in personal insults.

What are you talking about anyway?

I am talking about Poland accepting changes in their society, what are you talking about?

who is not willing to discuss ?

I don't call repeating the same old stuff about homosexuality a discussion, do you?

Rather you on certain subject are ominously silent !

that maybe be so, but I don't have to answer to anybody, unless I choose to, since I left the kindergarden a long time ago;)- I talk to my family and friends about real life issues, here I am discussing ideas, provided there is somebody to discuss it with.

during the communism Poland did not discuss homosexuality even though there were as many homosexuals as they are now. The openness of addressing the issue is a bigger problem at the moment then the mere existence of homosexuality in Poland.

I think that some Poles don't want to discuss certain issues, including homosexuality, because it is an uncomfortable subject and they don't know how to address it.

As with any changes, this one will happen but it will take time. I see it as a process not a one time event.

Kaczynski hasn't changed at all

he is finished, although he is not going to let the power go easily off his hands - it would be interesting to watch ;), but then again, there are more important things in Poland that Kaczynki and I don't see a reason why it should be all about him. I did quite a lot of driving on Poland and I thing that building more safe roads is more essential then what will happen with the duck.
