Love / ARE POLISH GIRLS GOLD-DIGGERS? [359]

I assumed that the women from eastern europe was the type of women to be "house wifes" and stay at home and raise the kids.

Kids are not high priority for many women/couples.

Many women here put career first.

This 'house wife' thingy is BS for the most part when it comes to young women here.

Travel / Traveling From Warsaw to Berlin - train? [25]

Isn't it possible to buy the ticket in the train station before 1 or 2 hours from the departure of the train from warsaw to berlin?

it is possible.

warszawski was explaining the 29 euro ticket because a normal ticket, just before traveling, may be prohibitively expensive for some people.

if u want to go to berlin first... why don't u fly into berlin

Travel / Traveling From Warsaw to Berlin - train? [25]

you can buy a ticket for 29 euro each way

there may be some restrictions with regard to some trains/days.

in my experience the 10 days in advance doesn't seem to be a strict rule.

better be safe than sorry though and follow W's advice

Life / Child Adoption in Poland? [138]

In Poland:
the first stage involves questions and answers and various checks. then the couple may be expected to foster the child for a certain period. this will involve checks by the authority. then it will be time to adopt. this involves possibly two or three visits to court.

you won't need a lawyer, but u may need a translator.

if i were u i'd contact the Polish consulate/embassy in your country and state your case with them. obviously the case for adopting from abroad is different.

Work / Price of live entertainment in Poland (Torun) [4]

Any ideas on how I can find a ballpark figure for solo/duo/small bands in the Torun area ?

it really depends if u are doing it for fun or advancement in your pro career.

charge the same as u would in the uk, maybe.

how long is the set ?

what would a good DJ get paid ? ask for the same.

Life / An example of what is wrong with Poland (fatal traffic accident and a tram) [55]

I only see wroclaw taking Harry's side.

not quite. i did ask a question, which hasn't been answered.

in principle i agree with harry, but i still don't know how the woman was killed.

traffic hold-ups caused by accidents are a problem here. and i simply can't see what difference it makes moving a tram that is already many metres from the point of impact.

one problem is that it's not only the police who investigate, but also tram officials. and if they are not at the scene then the tram won't move.

Life / An example of what is wrong with Poland (fatal traffic accident and a tram) [55]

all they had to do was take some photos, mark the road where the wheels of the tram were.... and then move it. as they would do in the uk.

i'd like to know how an elderly lady managed to open the doors of a moving tram.

or do i misunderstand this:

has just hit and killed an old woman who tried to get off it

did she try to get off or did she walk under it ?

Work / English with a Polish girlfriend. Experience in engineering, machines - working in Poland? [19]

But for me ? im 23 and have experience in engineering, machining using lathes, mills, working in many sectors.

being able to read a plan/drawing will help.

as u know the work is more to do with knowledge of the machine. and on the factory floor u can't chat much, if you're busy.

the pay will be terrible by most standards, but work is work.

u need to find a friend who knows people in the business.

make learning Polish a priority.

UK, Ireland / Poles do a U turn: England to Poland and then back to England again. [23]

You have to hand it to the guy ... he wasn't afraid when the robber pointed a gun at him. Pretty gutsy ... .

the young guy was an idiot.

all that he achieved was a photo op for someone. and it is the photo that will catch the criminal.

Life / Winter in Poland? [160]

Gloves

buy a coat with pockets

Pants:

cold air gets trapped under jeans. wear either: leggings, pyjama bottoms or your girl friend's pantyhose/tights.

Jackets:

depends on the quality of your sweater. i just wear two shirts and a regular jacket

Hats:

i never bother with one. but the norm is a wooly cap (black)

you'll need a scarf, but put your jacket on first and then wrap the scarf around a couple of times and knot it. most women do this.

remember that when it's cold u'll be indoors and when u go out... use public transport.

if you are afraid of the cold don't buy a dog... especially not an owczarek podhalanski.

News / Lech Kaczyński statue in Warsaw? [66]

She also said that the Russian investigation into the crash last April in western Russia - which blamed pilot error for the disaster – failed to reveal the whole truth.

if she knows that the investigation didn't reveal the whole truth it might be an idea for her to reveal that extra bit of truth we don't know about.

monuments/statues will no doubt be popping up everywhere.

News / Which modern developments harm Poland? [83]

Do you really thing a nine or 10-year-old finding out about 'love' on an Internet prn site is the best solution.

your post seems to be directed at me.

you listed prn under tv trash. not internet.

any child watching tv after 9:00pm may see light prn.

and once again. it doesn't harm anyone.

And the topic was the trashiness of much of TV. There is no question that there's plenty of choice. The question is: why do so many choose that which is cheap, tacky, trashy and gutter-level?

i watch what i watch because i enjoy it.

the things you mention are only trash in your opinion, not mine.
