Communion to mouth? It has always been so here. I find hand communion as odd. Sort of sacrilegous. How many people wash their hands before entering church for mass service? I always do but others certainly not. :):)

As for wine, priests cleverly guard their supply of wine - if they share it, they might run out of it. :)

Yes, interesting. I don`t know yet where this Polish custom of home kolęda comes from, one day I must find it out. So Irish priests/ministers give the communion to the hand or mouth during a service? In Poland to mouth.

As for the doll, it is an ape. Look at its hairless head, brown colour only resembles hair, and protruding dog-like muzzle.

Sorry, it is a traffic noise screen with drive-throughs. :):)

Phew, it was a challenge. Thanks for Polish perseverance in guessing. :) Let`s have a rest for a while, next riddle tomorrow morning.

The gate is an exit and not an entrance?

Warmer, more warmer.. :):) Emergency exit - partly yes. Most of all - a drive-through entrance. Can you see that bungalow in the farthest background?
Yes, road signs. You can`t see the road because it was behind me - the signs are reflected in that transparent plastic.

So, now we know the gate and fence are next to the road.

Final question: What is the function of the fence? Probably I should have asked it at the very beginning...

the Polish mania for putting up unnecessary fences

That`s Polish individualism again. :):)

Not sure what is behind that entrance gate.

Hey, you know this one but you are playing with me like a cat with a mouse! It is unfair, it is my role in this thread! :):):)

Don`t you really know??

By a background object I meant the gate and fencing. Things behind them are unimportant.

A hint: Those signs you mentioned are important. But they aren`t behind the gate, they are in front of it. How? And what does it tell us?

Life / What do decent Poles think about true rightists ? [148]

By rightists I mean both standard and radical, primarily from Poland (e.g., PiS, nationalists, far right etc) but also abroad.

Well, I am afraid decent Poles` opinion about right wingers isn`t too positive. I can say it from my own experience of talking to many righteous people in Poland.

Here are the reasons, the order is random.

Reason 1 - Negative attitude to the EU
Rightwingers generally oppose the EU, claiming it is the source of various rotten ideas, such as e.g., gay marriages or Muslim immigrant issue. However, most Poles support the EU, seeing many benefits in the membership. For them, their eternal dream of becoming fully European instead of merely Eastern European nation is gradually taking real shape.

Reason 2 - Contemptuous attitude to women
Rightists can`t get rid of old traditional views on women - their role is to bear children, run the house, take care of the family, satisfy male sexual needs etc. Most of all, women should obey their male partners as they are believed to be weaker and less intelligent. Decent people can`t accept such views, obviously women are equal to males, not inferior.

Reason 3 - Intolerance
Rightists don`t like diversity, they perceive it as suspicious and even dangerous, that is why certain groups and minorities are discriminated by them. Sometimes I get an impression that rightists would like to round up all Jews, blacks, femminists, gays and other LGBT, Muslim immigrants etc and close them in concentration camps so that they don`t spoil the ideal world with their stinking presence. The same with people who show a little tolerance and compassion towards minorities. It is natural that decent people cant`t tolerate such discrimination.

Reason 4 - Brutal methods
Rightists do not hesitate to use radical, sometimes dirty methods to achieve their goals - lies, manipulation, verbal abuse, violence, brutality. I mentioned concentration camps before as a metaphor, but high prison sentences and death penalty are strongly supported by rightists. They also advocate beating of children, claiming it is good for their psyche and proper development.

Reason 5 - Hypocrisy
Rightists openly support traditional values but in private lives they often breach them. So, they opt for strong family and traditional marriage, but they often have lovers on the side. They advocate total ban on abortion, but when their lovers get pregnant, rightists make them remove pregnancy. They often claim to be confirmed believers (PiS members and supporters are mostly Catholic) of Christian faith, but they easily forget about Christian values when they brutally abuse their opponents.

Reason 6 - Incredibly high self-esteem
That`s the funniest of all reasons because rightwingers strongly believe they are on a mission to clean the world of all rotten elements . In Polish context, I sometimes get an impression they really suppose they were sent by God to do the cleaning upon those who deserve it. They deem themselves better than not only "leftist vile scum" but also other average people, and as such they think they have the right to do all the things I mentioned above and below.

Reason 7 - Positive attitude to the Kremlin
Paradoxically, rightists conceive the Kremlin as a partner worth doing business with. They don`t mind the Kremlin`s aggressiveness and dirty tricks. I particularly mean the right wing parties in Western Europe.

Reason 8 - Vengefulness
Rightists have a tendency to never forget real or imagined wrongdoing directed at them. They never forgive and are able to wait for years for a unique chance to attack, humiliate and successfully destroy their political/ideological opponents.

Reason 9 - Suspiciousness
Rightists constantly suspect other people of potentially harmful activities. Conspiracy theories are very poipular among rightists.

The last thing I was thinking is that he was a beggar!

That`s interesting, it means you didn`t come across such guys too often, neither me but when he approached me, I immediately knew the context. I bought the copyright to his image for 5 zlotys. :)

You forgot to get a tree and it's your last chance being Wigilia

:):) Great. Yet, in this case, it is not about that tree sapling, but the background object.

started kissing my hands before he took the bill.

Pity you didn`t take a photo. :) Then you could post it here, asking: Why is the guy kissing my hands?

So he's a beggar?

Yes, written in English. I was walking with a British professor around a tourist infested district. But I looked more distinguished so the begging guy approached me and the professor escaped unharmed. :).

Phew, that was a long one.

What is it?

Oops, I suspect we ran into a misunderstanding. The person who took the photo was me and I certainly didn`t look like a reporter. Just a private guy walking the street, approached by another private guy. :)

OK, another hint: when I said that usually people of that kind prefer to remain still and passive, I really meant it: not moving, but sitting on the ground, rarely kneeling. For hours.

OK, guys, it is a piece of paper on which you could read something.
A hint? Here you are: usually people of that kind prefer to remain still and passive, even for a long time, while that guy was different - he was active and mobile. :):)

The building looks familiar. Warsaw?

I am afraid you need to visit Warsaw more often. Warsaw Market Square houses look like this:

Don't think I'm going to get the miserable looking 'Valentine's Day' man though ;)

I hate telling students direct answers, I prefer to make them think. :) Well, you are on the right path, could you develop this "miserable man" ? It is indeed important in this case. Why miserable?

You mean: Such two traitors like three of us will suffice for four? :):) Sorry, wrong answer. :)

I see they hold a banner with KOD.

No, don`t worry about it, KOD actually stands for Kittens Oppose Domestication.

Ironside and Dirk, are you still with us?

This one is a multiple choice exercise:

Decide which one of the following refers to the presented photo:
1/ Let`s play rabbits, shall we?
2/ Fuk you twice/ Double fuk you.
3/ Missus, two beers for me.
4/ I am so horny
5/ Look out, those two drones are filming us!
6/ None of the above.

I mostly saw people that looked like they escaped a nursing home.

Yes, and isn`t it wonderful that despite their age, those people still want to fight for free Poland? I am always amazed when I see so many grannies in demos. I sometimes approach them and ask for reasons, especially when I see she is trembling of cold but is standing firmly with her little Polish flag. They always answer they do it for their grandkids. :):) Polish babcias are wonderful creatures, if you haven`t got one, you are really unlucky.

Sorry, guys, it wasn`t Warsaw.

Soviet morons and lefties in action.

Sorry, the milk has already been spilt. Nobody will believe this sudden twist of yours. :):)

Yes, perfect! :):) I see you are an expert on KOD. :):)

Protesters alluded to PiS`s methods of ruling the country and voiced their objection. I thought it was a very accurate slogan.

Btw. I saw a lot of young people too, even with kids.

PS. Can you also guess the location?

Mafketis and Atch, points for you, it is indeed kolęda, ie., local priest`s visit and blessing to the house. In our parish, it takes place every two years because priests want to stay longer in each home to talk about parishioners` problems..

Also, kudos to Dirk and Miłosław for amusing ideas. :)

However, a few details need straightening but I am sure you will like to learn sth new.

and little bowl with holy water

Actually, there is no bowl, what you see above the cross is a clay manger with a little figure of Jesus which one of my kids made in the kindergarten.

He's probably just received a donation from the household

No, priests in our parish are not allowed by the chief parson to collect donations during kolęda, anyone who wants to do it can bring it to the church.

and is recording in his book

Actually, he is writing the info about kolęda in one of my youngest kids` religion copybooks. You can see another one waiting nearby. Older kids don`t have to show their copybooks.

Anyone notice the creepy doll to the left??? It's just an ordinary baby doll, but the photo makes it look as if there's something like ectoplasm emanating from it!

Actually, it is not a doll but a dancing and singing toy ape. My daughter got it from Santa Claus.

To reward your efforts, another one:

What is the context of showing this banner in Poland?

Yes, they are quite distinctive, but I do know that Poland produces an awful lot of blueberries

I suppose we ran into a misunderstanding. By Polish blueberry I mean the one native to Poland. The red -leafed one isn`t such. Where from then?
