USA, Canada / Would you live in California, USA? [240]

it doesn't strike me as the most desirable place in the U.S. these days.

Its probably the least desirable place to live in the U.S.The coast, the redwood forests, the valleys, vineyards, etc are absolutely beautiful. But the insane cost of living, taxes, hordes of homeless people, poop and syringes all over the street, high crime, crazy traffic, pollution, etc. ruin it. It's a great place to visit if you like nature, terrible to live in though - especially LA and San Fran.

But if you're an illegal immigrant than its not so bad apparently...

free healthcare to Illegals

Maybe if it was limited to just sterilization it wouldn't be such a big deal... That should be the punishment for illegally entering a country - either you leave, or if you want to stay you can but you must be sterilized so you can't pop out 6 kids just so you can claim a bunch of benefits meant for CITIZENS and not illegals and their half dozen anchor babies.

Medical price controls

Already has a de facto existence with Obamacare... Great even more time and money that doctors and hospitals spend on admin work instead of treating patients. You know the vast majority of doctors HATE Obamacare because they went from 80% clinical 20% admin work to about half and half.

Travel / Poland - never again [593]

@Rich Mazur

Because social marxists and leftist cucks dont think in a rational cause and effect way. They only care about feelings - specifically not hurting anyone's feelings. Having diversity (which basically means less white people) is more important than security for citizens. Handing out benefits to everyone who wants them is more important than keeping a balanced budget. Taking crosses off of churches and disregarding ones roots and traditions is more important than 'upsetting' non citizen migrants.

You can present countless sources - statistics, facts, videos, police reports, etc to leftists that show migrants are causing violent crime to skyrocket, that most the rioters in France that caused a 2 year state of emergency were migrants, that the cologne Nye rapes were by migrants, etc and theyll never listen. There isn't a point in debating tjem because no matter how rational your arguement, no matter how much evidence you present they won't change their beliefs. Even when their support for social marxism bites them in the ass, just as one german mayor who was raped by african migrants yet refused to file charges because she said she didn't want to exacerbate germans increasingly negative feelings towards migrants, they still won't budge. And on this site its no different. I posted a BBC video, a leftist source if anything, that shows germans esp women buying up pepper spray mace etc because theyre scared of migrants attacking raping them. The store owners said they cant keep inventory because they sell out immediately due to all the people who.want to protect themselves however they can from being attacked or raped. Well, lefties on here call it 'bullsh1t' or point out that it's a 2 year old video - as if that made any difference as the situation was just as bad then as it is now If not worse since there's even more of them since then.

And if you cite those statistics while living in certain european countries especially the UK germany sweden etc you will not only be censored but also prosecuted, fined, and possibly even put in jail. The left does not want the failures of multiculturalism to be exposed. Thats why theyre prosecuting thought crime now. You write something negative about muslims especially, even if its totally factual or cite some statistic youll be promptly contacted by the security services and fined. If you keep doing it theyll put you in jail. Yet muslims can walk down the streets with sharia 4 uk signs and yelling uk go to hell, we wamt sharia not democracy and even lauding isis al qaeda and not get in any trouble. Freedom of speech does not exist anymore especially in the UK and Germany. Merkel refused to even wave a German flag and tossed it aside like an old *** towel, not to mention the police tell germans not to waive their own flag because it 'provokes' the muslim migrants. That is how low these countries have sank thanks to PC and marxist leaders.

First off he's not insulting Poland... if anything he's insulting the service he received which he is more than free to do... but a 4 page thread devoted to criticizing him because he criticized the service he received seems ridiculous...

I'm for this site gaining new members - not chasing them away....

Travel / Starbucks in Poland? [149]

Yeah its an American company from Seattle hence its far left policies

Watch its stock tumble today - no one wants to be in an establishment where smelly homeless people are going to start congregating... especially not a place where food and drink is served. It's going to become like one of those fast food places run by arabs in the hood complete with hookers looking for tricks and people shooting up in the bathroom

They broke the cardinal rule of the restaurant business all in the name of self sacrificing neo marxism

Kind of makes me want to go to Starbucks today after I get out the gym and start airing out my socks and shoes

White christians arent a minority in poland what are you talking about... 87% of Poles identify as Roman catholic.. add the 1 2% of orthodox and 1 2% of protestants, Jehovah witness etc and you're at 90%+. Yes church attendance is down but nonetheless the vast majority of poles identify as christian

This shows how godless w europe has become - majority in places like uk, sweden, etc never pray, never attend religious services and identify woth no religion.

In all three areas poland scores at the very top with the highest percentage of people going to church weekly/less than weekly, pray, and identify with a religion

Law / Poland's citizenship through grandmother in US [20]

You have got to be kidding delph... Americans dont falsify documents to get polish citizenship lol. I've never heard of such a thing in poland or in the us. If anything poles bribed prl members to get a visa to leave for the us back in the day. An American has zero need to falsify documents to get polish citizenship as they can easily get residency even if they aren't polish. Plus if you have polish family its pretty easy to get citizenship theres no reason to lie or falsify things, it just takes a long time. In fact citizenship by descent is probably the easiest way to get pl citizenship

Law / Poland's citizenship through grandmother in US [20]

Polish law is black and white in this case - if she had US citizenship, she lost Polish citizenship.

That's not true....

pl.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/dual-nationality

Polish citizens who became naturalized American citizens after January 8, 1951 do not lose their Polish citizenship under Polish law, unless they formally renounce Polish citizens who became naturalized American citizens after January 8, 1951 do not lose their Polish citizenship under Polish law, unless they formally renounce Polish citizenship with the consent of the Polish government.

There's hundreds of thousands if not millions of Poles living in the US that became naturalized US citizens. That does not mean you lose your Polish citizenship.

Polish law states that a Polish citizen cannot lose their citizenship unless they renounce it.

Real Estate / Poland land ownership documents - what do they look like / where to obtain [15]

@Jumor

I don't know. Residential land probably, agricultural or commercial laws are a lot different. 91 was a very messy time - lot of commercial and agricultural property basically stolen and sold for groszy on the zloty. Lot of government corruption, kidnappings, extortions, all sorts of ****.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

@Rich Mazur

True... honestly though I dont feel like i learned a whole lot of practical things as an undergrad, with a few exceptions. The most useful stuff was learned working.

I remember I was debating between two schools for mba and I couldn't make a decision so I basically signed up for both, went to the orientations, etc. Well, I went to the first orientation and instead of talking about concentrations, the different classes available, the resources for students, etc the speaker spent almost hour talking about how we should use our mba to help migrants in Europe and build whole foods in the ghettos because there isnt access to quality organic food and how we should attend protests and demonstrations.... I couldn't believe what I was hearing. If the indoctrination already began at orientation I could only imagine what sort of nonsense id have to deal with in class. Thankfully the uni I ended up attending wasnt as bad but like just about every uni in the US, theres virtue signaling snowflakes. Luckily theres very few in my unis graduate level programs

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

@Atch

Yea I know it's a long process. I was going to apply to LSE because around the time I was looking at mba programs my job wanted to relocate me to London. It was an insanely kind application process - nothing like even Stanford or the ivies here. I'm sure Oxford and Cambridge are the same. The cost is what was most attractive though - 9k pounds a year is very cheap compares to the 150k tuition for an mba program. Basically two months at a top us mba would cost the same as a year at a top british school. However, the cost of living is drastically higher and although I love the northern parts of England, I'd go crazy if i had to live in London. Still though I'm happy with my decision. What I worry about though is how my degree will be regarded in poland though. Lse Oxford etc and even sgh will probably be regarded higher than northwestern or even some of the not so famous ivies like Cornell Dartmouth brown etc. I could be wrong but I guess I'll find out. To an American Corp itll be recognized but probably not as much to a polish one. I did my mba as a sort of backup/just in case in the event my businesses fail and I have to return to some corporate consulting or sales management job.

@Rich Mazur
Pretty much... Plus the diversity quotas mean that smart white and asian students will lose their spot and not have the same access to scholarships and grants which will go to a less qualified black, native American or Latino.

You have to understand though too in 1967 the job market was totally different. Back then a person could graduate from high school amd have a good job let alone college. Now the average college grad is happy when they land a 45 to 50k job and many settle for even 38 to 42k jobs. But the students who graduate and have significant work experience, a good network, and actuslly took the time to develop themselves and their careers during college instead of drinking every night will end up getting those higher salary entry level jobs. I had a similar experience for my first job like you and landed a position that was double of what my friends that just graduated were making. A few couldn't even land a decent job even after 6 months of applying. They tended to have no or very limited work experience so employers were hesitant

It's unfortunate it is this way but the students share a lot of the blame. I see all these kids spending time playing frisbee, drinking or protesting trump or whatever instead of studying or working or networking. Then they wonder why they cant get a high paying job and have a hundred grand in debt before theyve even gotten to grad school.

Real Estate / Poland land ownership documents - what do they look like / where to obtain [15]

1991 was arguably one of the worst years of the polish economy, atleast in modern times. The county experienced a significant gdp contraction. Poland was in transition from communism to democracy and the economy was in a big slump. It didn't really start recovering till 93.

It's likely thats one of the reasons why your dad purchased property in that year as prices were very low. I dont want to get you overly excited, but that 30k can easily be hundreds of thousands if not a million depending on

Do you have any pictures of the house? If so you can compare pics to Google maps to find an address. That's really your first step as thats what you'll need for the ksiegi wieczystej to be of use to you. Also do you know how to speak/write in polish? Government offices that deal with real estate, taxes, etc generally do not have English speakers.

EVEN in case of a bloody and life threatening emergency they would not treat me without an up front cash on the table

That isn't totally true. They were just being a dick to you. If you called an ambulance or showed up bloody and dying they would treat you right away. Also, the public hospitals really differ from **** poor to average to wonderful. You must have been in a really crappy one. When my grandma had a kidney stone she was at one in Wroclaw like actually I think it's a military hospital and the care was wonderful and the food was great. But I remember on another occasion my aunt spilled hot water over her legs (she's very old) and suffered severe burns. She was wailing in pain before they finally admitted her and gave her some meds. The care was awful and they gave her nothing to eat besides gruel and some bread. On yet another occasion my cousin (who was a baby at the time) was having a seizure and was admitted immediately.

Do you still speak Polish? Were you communicating in Polish or English to the staff? Believe it or not that makes a difference.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Honestly I absolutely love Poland. I visit there all the time especially in the summer. I generally take every summer off full time working to just relax, do some day trading, work on my online businesses, instead of driving around all day long and into offices from morning to night like I do the rest of the year. I will be going again to Poland in the next few weeks and I plan to move all my assets there and permanently settle down in the next 1-2 years. Like you, I'm from Chicago and I can't stand living here any longer.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of Warsaw. I like Krakow and Wroclaw (where I'm from) and the tricities way more.

Honestly I'd give it another chance though - check out Krakow or Wroclaw next time. It also helps to be with someone who's at least somewhat familiar with Poland and speaks the language.

If you think Chicago is prettier, less dangerous, and strangers have a better attitude than in Warsaw I don't think any city will be up to your standards... Warsaw is actually cleaner and prettier than many other European capitals - especially Paris where the streets constantly smell like urine and crappy weed

Graffiti

Unfortunately yes, there is a TON of graffiti everywhere in Poland. It does upset me. Actually everything is tagged up even more so than in Chicago hoods. At least the kids have enough respect though not to tag up churches - but everything else is fair game. It does upset me though because htere's so many beautiful old buildings and EVERYTHING is tagged up. Like there's no block in the city that isn't scrawled in graffiti. Even in Chicago the gangs and high school kids don't tag stuff up nearly as much - at least not anymore like back in the 90s and 00s. That is the one thing I really dislike about Poland though I'll agree with that. Its a weird contrast you have beautiful kamienicy hundreds of years old yet they're all covered in graffiti and no one will paint over it because it'll be there again within a few days. Quite sad... they really should pass some strict laws against this...Or if the kids want to tag stuff up let them do it on a wall dedicated to that or at the skate park or something.

120 zloty

Well no ****... if you went to a doctor in S. Korea they'd ask for wons, if you went to a doctor in Canada they'd ask for Canadian dollars, Mexico - pesos, etc. If it was a street market or bazaar you could probably have paid in dollars or euros but not at a public hospital or doctors office.... You can't be mad that a clinic asked you to pay the bill in their nation's currency. Like Kaprys said, this isn't the PRL where everyone bows to you for the almighty US dollar...

And 120 zloty is less than $40. That's a very good price for getting emergency medical care without having insurance in that country. If you went to some urgent care in the US and didn't have insurance they'd likely charge you around $200. Even with insurance a copay is often $30 - depending on what insurance you have.

But I do have enough American insurance to cover me for up to 150,000 dollars

You're in POLAND - not the US. Unless you specifically have an international insurance plan they're not going to honor it. And even then I don't know what the exact rules are with those types of international plans.

It seems like you expected special treatment because you're an American with some dollars in your wallet. Granted yes, you'd get special treatment by gold diggers at the clubs.... but not at a hospital... In fact, Polish citizens will take priority. If you presented a dowod or polish passport or something than you'd be treated the same as any other Polish citizen.

Granted I will give you that Polish bureaucracy and the courts are beyond awful. It takes nerves of steel to get anything accomplished. Especially when you get some old PRL era hag that's helping you out and was use to getting bribes just to do her job.

I also renewed my passport at the consulate on Lake Shore Drive a while back. I was born in PL and my last passport was still from the PRL days as I generally travel on my US passport because should something ever go wrong in a foreign country I trust the US embassy a bit more than the Polish one to help me out. I do remember it involved a lot of papers to fill out but I don't recall having to wait a whole year for it nor did I have to have my grandparents to fill stuff out or prove I never renounced my citizenship, etc. The lady was actually very nice and helpful. It was a bit of writing and waiting but hey that's the process.

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

@kaprys
Yes, because they are ranked as such. You think Oxford or Cambridge or LSE or other top european schools are any different? Some MPs kid whos dad also went there is going to have a much better chance to get in thanks to his or her last name and the prestige it brings.

Money talks, bullsh1t walks

@Miroslaw
The education system in the US namely for grade school and high school is ranked very low, poland is eben ranked higher. Us ranks somewhere in the 30s last time I chrcked. The reason why is because there's so many kids who don't care about education especially in the inner cities. You have tons of kids who don't graduate, drop out, get pregnant, etc. Also the large amount of Hispanic migrants will of course bring down average English scores. It's the huge amount of kids that dont care about school that bring the average way down.

In Europe eben in poor countries and amongst immigrants the kids care about education. Unlike the US, theyre not dropping out, getting pregnant at 16 17, etc. Even kids fron poorer families plan on going to college whereas many kids in us have no intention on going, with many not even planning to graduate high school.

Well they do. And actually that was very common in prl especially for degrees in philosophy. It's still very common in Ukraine.

And no the degree wont show it. It won't even show their GPA as thats on the transcript and generally jobs dont even ask for them only other colleges do like if you go from undergrad to grad.

It's mainly limited to famous, connected and wealthy people and also legacy. So if your mom or.dad went to an ivy your chances of getting in are far higher, even when compared to someone who has better grades and test scores. So if my son or daughter isnt that booksmart but still want to go to a good college, they have a very high chance of getting into the schools I went to.

Atch has a good point the 'ksiegi wieczystej' is the best place to start.

You can also look to hire a real estate and family.estate lawyers in poland.

But before anything, find the address of the property. You can tjen guage how much its worth and if its worth pursuing. This process can take you a good 2 3 years plus before the title is finally in your name. You'll have to also pay back taxes but they're very low in poland

USA, Canada / Polish or American Education? [180]

Every college campus is like that from the top schools like Stanford and the ivies to even average ones like DePaul and Loyola around me. The better the school the bigger the percent of Asian kids esp from China esp at schools in urban areas

Not true. Depends who you are and how hard you try. If you're black or Latino you can safely assume you're getting a scholarship even with mediocre grades and test scores. It use to be for Asians too but as with Stanford, theyre now making up a bigger and bigger chunk of the student population. It's the same in my mba program. I dont know how these kids got in. Last semester I had the misfortune of having a Chinese kid in my group. He barely spoke any English and couldn't contribute at all. I literally had to write out his presentation for him. If i didn't do that, my grade would suffer and if my grade suffers I can lose my grant.. I'm willing to bet that the kids family likely gave the uni a huge donation so he could get in. I dont see any other way a kid couldve scored high enough on the gmat or gre to get into a top school if he reads and writes English at a 4th grade level. And unlike the majority of mba students, he doesn't work. Not part time or full time, yet he still contributed next to nothing.

Which brings me to my next point. If i was poor id still get a grant. My mba program costs me way less than the 'sticker price and it was because of merit not skin color or bc my family have them a fat donation or is famous.

And if you're from a household with a low income I believe around 80k you can get government assistance i.e. fafsa and thats open to everyone for both undergrad and graduate level. There's also pell grants and tons of other scholarships and grants. You can get a couple grand for writing a stupid essay on the civil war or tons of other topics. It's just some kids are too lazy to even try

So no, even if you come from a poor white family you can still attend a top.uni. It's much harder than if you were black, Indian, or Latino but there's still plenty of opportunities and scholarships. But if you're ambitious and hard working youll.make it regardless of your skin color and your families earnings.

If i managed to get a scholarship and pay the rest of my undergrad by waiting tables, delivering pizzas, and later becoming a commodity broker - so can anyone. Granted it took me almost 6 years but I graduated with ZERO student debt which is almost unheard of. And I'm not some genius. My act composite was a 31 putting me in the top 7% or whatever it was but that's actually on the low end for people applying to ivy leagues and other top schools. On my gmat I got a 690 which isnt even at or above the 700 'magic number' yet I not only got into one of the best mba programs in the country but I got a fat grant where the only stipulation is I maintain a 3.0 gpa.

Yes it is worth investigating. As his son you would be entitled to it. It is a long arduous process which can take years. However the house and property could he worth a lot of money today. Some properties that went for 20k 30k in the 90s could now be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. An 60k 80k property could he worth over a million. It all depends where its located, what the zoning is, and size.

Life / What are the most common antidepressants prescribed in Poland? [23]

By recreational I meant drugs taken for fun, that is recreationally, usuallt with the purpose of getting high.

Zoloft and antidepressants dont work like that though. It's not like a Xanax or valium or a Vicodin where you take it and in an hour or two you feel relaxed, high, etc. Antidepressants take a lot longer before you experience any changes in mood. It usually takes a week or two to kick in. At least That's what my doc told me when I asked him about other options for aderrall.

I mean anti anxiety meds do relax you, make you calm, etc. In a way that could be considered a legit recreational drug. They're often taken by people who have social anxiety or even are scared of flying, as well as actual medical conditions like panic attacks. In that sense then yes theyre being taken recreationally in the way thay the person takes them to be calm and not freak out rather than for an actual medical condition.

Anyway.... I would highly advise OP against taking antidepressants especially if you're not already on them. They have a lot of side effects and are very very very difficult to get off of. You can buy supplements like 5htp, b vitamins, st John's wort, and others. It also depends how severe your depression/anxiety is and what symptoms you experience.

Avoid lithium at all costs. That is some super heavy duty **** for peoole who really have severe mental health problems ans commonly given in institutionsIf you haven't been diagnosed yet for some mental.bealth issue by now you definetelt dont need lithium.

UK, Ireland / Letter from Polish Prosecutor??!! [34]

If there is a warrant he will he arrested once they run his name. Plain and simple. You need to check your facts.

The op wrote that first they wanted to talk to him as a witness. Then 2 years later they want to talk to him as a SUSPECT. Meaning that IF there is a warrant for his arrest he can absolutely be arrested when they run his name. A polish lawyer will find out what this case is about, whether hes been indicted, etc
