News / Dunkin Donuts to come to Poland [46]

"titanium doxyde"????

I personally don't eat that crap and if I had kids, I wouldn't want them to either ;).

Considering all the health problems (not only obesity) in the US, there is obviously wrong with their food (sugar, artificial crap, hormons....)

Probably better to eat an apple or a piece of bread!

Study / I got accepted into a university in Gliwice, Poland! [38]

@Polsyr: that's the reason why I advise to first of all choose a country issuing visas to Syrians easily. What sense do it make to be accepted by a school and then not to be issued a visa like the OP has done? ;).

In Russia, he may face racism and hostility but it'll be the same in Poland.

Except - maybe - a few countries in Europe (which are generous in terms of visas and the rest), like UK, Germany and France, the chances are very limited.

What about .... Turkey?

Study / I got accepted into a university in Gliwice, Poland! [38]

@Nazwat: what's wrong to study in Russia? Do you need to speak Russian? Since very difficult for you to have visa, you need to first find a country issuing visa more easily and then a school.

As to "free" university programs, check better since it's the way in most of Western Europe (out of UK and Switzerland) and when no "free", it can cost something like 100 euros a year. Do check.

Also choose a school in a country not too much plagued by racism and xenophobia ;) (Poland not friendly to foreigners who look "different" ;))

Witam! What Polsyr says makes sense! :)

Since difficult to get a visa, the OP should look up what countries issue most visas to Syrians. I doubt that Poland is one of them. Most probably easier to apply to UK (probably no.1) and then Germany and France (but of course need to speak local languages).

As to study/live in Poland, if Gliwice, no thanks ;)

@Nawzat: check what countries issue most visas to students from Syria and from that on look for a school (in such countries).

Real Estate / Landlord in Poland wants me to pay 4500 zl for cancellation of contract [16]

This is pure BS! Such portals are free and even if he goes through an agency, it won't cost much.
The guy is a crook, which is often the case in Poland.
Can you move out on a week-end for instance and then you leave the keys with a neighbor or you sent them to him.

Best of luck! :)

Life / Why is Orange Poland such a crappy / expensive network? [53]

I happen not only to be an Orange customer and 0 problem and also work with them and 0 problem as well.

Orange being by far the no.1 among tel providers in Poland so not hard to conclude that most customers are satisfied ;)

News / Does democratic Poland guarantee it's LGBT citizens respect for human and civil rights? [1169]

Pitiful that some of you put human beings simply because they are homosexuals to the same level as animals! This is sickening.

Furthermore, being so obsessed by other people's sex life is not normal. Having been around homosexuals, I can assure you that they don't care about your sex life so give them a break!

Same sex marriage shall be legal in Poland too. It's a matter of time and there is no way you can stop it!

Law / What is the procedure of immigrating to Poland as a spouse of a Polish citizen? Citizenship through marriage. [11]

@Zev: so don't bother with Polish nationality since no benefit for you! First you'll get temporary and then permanent residence. With permanent residence, you have all the rights Polish people do except the right to vote at least at national elections. Residents from EU have the right to vote (and even to be candidates) in local elections in Poland and I don't know the situation for residents not from EU but never mind, over 50% of Poles don't bother to vote since their politicians are all as lousy as everywhere else so really not an issue.

In brief, when from EU and countries like USA, Canada, Australia.. = no need to become Polish citizens.

Work / How to find work in Warsaw "if u don't speak Polish" ! [176]

@Lyszko: obviously unless limited exceptions, Polish is necessary to work in Poland (normal ;)). As to the poster, she may use her Arabic language skills (but I dout such skills are very much in demand in Poland) in addtion to other concrete skills.

Of course, she could look for a cleaning job but I doubt it is what she has in mind ;)

Life / Buying a laptop in Poland with English language settings [5]

I bought my laptop 3 or 4 years ago in Warsaw (Euro AGD) and I have everything in foreign language. I don't have any Polish. It is easy to do, just change the language through the start key.

@Rozu: why London? Check the numbers of Jews per country.

After Isreal and the US, France has by far the largest Jewish population.

Law / What is the procedure of immigrating to Poland as a spouse of a Polish citizen? Citizenship through marriage. [11]

If EU's citizen, no real need to get the Polish citizenship unless important to you to have a paper saying that you are a "Polish citizen".

I have been in Poland for "ages", was married to Pole but have never felt the need to get naturalized. What for? My nationality enables me to travel without visas to more places than Poles can and everywhere I am welcomed and in Poland I have permanent residence status (as from EU, I may also vote in local elections, which I don't) so why bother?

Furthermore, in order to apply for the Polish citizenship, one needs to pass a Polish language test (normal!).

So unless you feel very emotional about Poland and unless you are a citizen of a country with great difficulties and not well regarded on the international scene, no pratical need to become a Polish citizen!

Study / Multilingual School in Warsaw (English / Polish) [26]

@Taxi: witam! Do avoid the socalled 'Montessori" schools in Poland! They may have the "Montessori" label but that's all. Most teachers are not even Montessori trained, hardly speak English, and don't stay long since pay and conditions are terrible. If you can afford, do go to the British School (or American) School!

Work / How to find work in Warsaw "if u don't speak Polish" ! [176]

Hi! First of all, what is your status in Poland? What are your qualifications? Finding work in Poland without Polish is possible only in very rare situations (working in IT for international companies, working as an expat or teaching languages). Do you think one can find a job in Algeria without speaking Arabic?

Genealogy / Are the origins of Bernatowicz French? [23]

"lol"! Basque, Armenian!!!!!!!!!!! Next? In fact, it could be anything. Best would be to ask among members of the family. They ought to know where their ancestors came from. However, borders in Europe used to be completely different from what we have now...

News / Have PO (Platforma) operatives in Poland fallen into a panic? [332]

@Polonius: some are like you say but a lot are not ;)

@Delph: Kukiz is according to what I have heard, trying to gather anybody and the contrary to make up lists so he won't last long. True that if Duda screws up till the election, PO shall win. If election was held let's say in a year, it would be easier for PO.

I have read in GW that SLD and TR have decided to unite

News / Have PO (Platforma) operatives in Poland fallen into a panic? [332]

@Polonius: so polls have been constant for several weeks! Are polls in Poland generally reliable? They were accurate from after the 1 round on the presidential election onwards but for months they claimed that Komorowski would make it in the 1st round.

Atlhough 98% of the people I hang around with are PO's supporters, I personally believe that PiS shall make it. Duda was elected in late May so it is logical that voters continue voting for his party in an election held 3 or 4 months later. This seems logical to me and the way it is in all democratic countries. If the parliamentary election was held let's say in one year, PO could win since PiS would have time to make mistakes but as I said, as per logic, PiS is to win in October.

The mystery to me remains re Kukiz. Is he first of all going to be able to gather enough people to put on his lists? According to what I've read, he needs some 4,600 (= 10 per each seat, are there 460 seats in Sejm?)

If only 3 parties in Parliament including a jerk (Kukiz ;)), this is bad for democracy.

Well, we'll see but whether PiS or PO wins, my life shall not change ;)

Work / Poland seeking more natural English speakers [54]

@Delphi: a lot of (most?) women prefer to rely on their country's medical system when pregnant. This is also so when very sick (I was operated on here because of a cancer but if I could have, I would not have it done in Poland but all went ok finally) because we are scarred not to be treated properly (even when good standard), not to be able to understand and to express oneself in medical environments etc... Therefore, we feel safer at home.

As to travel abroad for dental care for instance, it's usually only for financial reasons.

I have read on the net that a lot of Canadian women get their lifting done in ... Cuba because it costs almost nothing (compared to what they would pay in Canada).

Money talks ;)

Work / Poland seeking more natural English speakers [54]

If some Poles who live abroad go back to Poland for dental work, it's simply because cheaper. People watch their wallets. White talking with my (Ukrainian) cleaning lady 1 hour ago, I have found out that a lot of Poles from as far as Lublin go to Ukraine for dental work. The reason why they go is that it's cheaper (for instance 300 ZL for a crown wheras for instance at my Warsaw clinic, it's minimum 780 ZL. Her niece who works and lives in Dublin travels all the way to Ukraine to take care of her teeth.

Love / Visiting Polish Girlfriend at her family. How to greet her family members? [7]

@Ayoub: You should also bring some Argan oïl. It's getting popular in Poland. Buy a small bottle of COSMETIC Argan oïl (not for cooking) and give it to mother, she should appreciate...

Well, I'm going to stop adding things because you'll end up needing a truck to carry all your stuff ;)
