News / Tusk cracks down on designer drugs ("dopalacze") in Poland [171]

Thanks. The point is, that if someone is searching for the escape, they will find it.
How far they will go with it, depends on many different factors, all subjets of psychiatry.
My theory, and this will sound cold, is that drug abuse is just another manifestation of theory of evolution. The weak are the victims. I tell my son that too.

In my experience, the most dangerous substance to teach your kids about is alcohol, because it is so socially acceptable here. My mantra on that is that if you have a drink everytime you have fun, sooner or later you will not be able to have fun without a drink.

Basically, you could be consuming/smoking ANYTHING.

I have couple of stories on that subject. When I was in HS, somebody started a rumour that you can get high from smoking dried banana peels. You just know, few had to try and report back. There are couple of lessons right there.

There are few naturally found substances that are very dangerous: there is bush in florida, with beautiful white bell flowers that will make you high. People die. Every once in a while somebody starts a campaign to make them illegal.

Have you heard the legend of a psychoactive toad?
How about the hallucinogenic mushrooms? Do they have them in Poland? How are you going to control that?
And is poppy still Poland's national flower?
Like I said earlier, when you see somebody repeatedly hitting themselves with a hammer, the problem probably does not lie with the hammer.

Anytime somebody is hurting themselves, I tend to put into category of mental illness.
It does not matter if it is a cause or result of drugs/alcohol abuse.
The only other alternative is to treat them as criminals, and I don't think that is working very well here. I see many kids/young adults start up with some pills, before they know it they are addicted to opiates, and they cannot stop by themselves. All of them would be willing to go to rehab, but the citizens of this country think it is much cheaper to shuffle them in and out of jails..

my point exactly. If we're getting all self-righteous and want to commit to keeping harmful substances from our children, start with the big hitters. But we really do not want to give up our booze and cigarettes, do we? Tusk's crack down on designer drugs seems more like a political move, and will probably do more harm than good by bringing attention to the very existance of these things.

Again a health regulation can be used: it is unlawful to store harmful substances in a public establishment.

I had to chuckle, considering you were talking about pubs.
Alcohol causes more deaths than all the other drugs combined.
It creates more additcs, causes more physical and mental diseases.
If you are really that commited to keeping the public safe from harmful substances, shouldn't you start there?
And if not, why?

You don't have to buy into it in order to work within it to gain your "freedom". You do however have to understand how it works in order to even have a chance of getting out of it.

He says it's like crack. Once you take that first hit, it will always have great appeal.
lol
Actually, I know he's still searching how to do as little as possible, have a sweet life on the beach somewhere, be admired for it, and he thinks this goal is somehow new and unique. HAhaha!

Teach him about how the system works, and

He resents the assumption that he has to buy into our system. He does not agree that "you have to join it to change it."

Given the crackhead vs banker choice, I'm sure he would pick crackhead just for the argumant's sake.
Actually, I can think of few reasons why crackhead is a better choice, myself.

Love / 'Battered husbands' - still a taboo subject in Poland [387]

LOL! See?
I have not even presented any arguments, but he knows they are childish attempts and narrow views.. and... I don't even want to read any more of his stuff.

Get it now, Barney?

They should bring in a crackhead and an investment banker and point out the difference between how the two live and how they deal with drugs.

I wish it was that simple.
After all the talks of goals, and education, and sacrifices, my son said: I want to be a poor fisherman. I do not want my goal to involve sitting most my life in front of a computer, like you do, mommy..

I got useful information from the antidrug workshops led in my school and from many sites of antidrug campaigns.

that's great, but not enough. And I don't think they reallywork, because they do not present the whole picture. The will never say that the drugs feel good, and to gain kids trust, that is really where you have to start from.

As a parent, there are so many opportunities to plant the seeds from the early age, moments when you're talking about someone he admires, or someone embarrassing himself, somebody that does not seem to have any friends, sports achievements, moments watching TV... but you got to be quick on your feet and subtle, so the kid has no idea you're talking about drugs. My premise was always that immediate gratification is a weakness, only the weak think it's a goal. The price of immadiate gratification is always at the expense of your bigger goals. But, I told him when he was a little older, you will do whatever you want, so if you make a decision that whatever stupid thing you want to do will be worth it the risk, accept full responsibility. Don't whine later that you didn't know..

I also had and look I used to think that there is much more pros than cons when I was a teenager. There is no such thing like peer presure! I never felt any peer presure.

If you saw more pros, than that is probably because you didn't get any useful information from your parents, all you've gathered was from your peers.

Example:Your buddy's telling you that he had a great time last night smoking a little weed and watching a funny movie. That is peer pressure already. Parents are supposed to complete the picture.. I don't know... memory loss, legal issues, reputation, weight gain, sports performance, whatever... educate them.

I don't understand, so you would let your kids to use drugs?

Let me try!
No, his kid would have enough information about pros and cons of the said drug, that peer preesure would be a much smaller factor in his decision making process.

Love / How easy is it to pick up a girl from a club/bar in Warsaw ? [65]

i meant the guys in a bar/club... they think that way only because they desire a quick premature "banging" in a back street...

lol They alway do! These places are like a den of wolves! It's hard to walk into a dimly lit club, every guy trying to get laid, trying to get some woman drunk, they look at you like a piece of fresh meat in there... and convince a man you just want to dance.

You guys call them cold b!tches, but it's really kinder for a woman to ignore a guy completely if she is not interested than engage in any kind of conversation.. especially in a very loud club.

Just get on the dance floor!

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

the reason for this thread was to bring forward an ethical part of swearing allegience to more than one country. I know most of us don't really care, but there are some that never even considered the issue.

Also, I would like to object, AGAIN, to Mods changing the title of this thread. The original title was "Dual citizenship".

everyone judges according to themselves...

C'mon.. I said smart. Really, jumping in bed with a guy you just picked up at a club is really, really stupid.

They also form the circle of death on the dance floor, contrary to the 'sluts' lose formations ;)

friends play a vital role when you had few drinks too many and are convinced that you just met your future husband/perfect man.

so a smart and intelligent girl cannot go to a club to dance or to a bar for a beer?

smart, intelligent girl will go to club to party. Contrary to what many guys think, they do not go there to pick up a guy to bring home

Yes but kids and young people tend to experiment even if the thing is something risky. It has nothing to do with intelligence but with being young. What would you say if you're kids were taking it? Would you still talk about Darwin's theory ar work?

You can't always use the kids as an excuse. I have learned from my son's teen years that most of the time, the stuff that is illegal is much cooler to them.

Interestingly, his theory on this K2 explosion and is that the old hippies are being ridiculous because they are getting old and scared of the law.

It because somebody come to the great idea of inventing new subsrances which works like common drugs and sell it in producs which are marked: nie do spożycia przez ludzi.

So they are not marked as harmless miracles!
Sometimes, you can just see Darwin's theory at work. ;)

They do.

which ones? What products? Do tell!
See, that's what so wonderful about the internet. If you research, you can find everything about the product you're about to injest, including the first hand, both positive and negative ratings. Pay attention to the sources, though, if it is a pill, for example, you'll have to wade through tons of pharmaceutical advertizing..

How easy is it to pick up a girl from a club/bar in Warsaw ?
It depends on what you look like.
The truth, and this is true not only in Warsaw bars, is that what you look like is the single most important factor. Even your financial situation will be gleaned from your looks.

Love / Are Polish and Slavic men perhaps a little bit insecure sometimes? [113]

stfu you stupid b*tch, those were all made up stories to see if people would believe them. Remember, I'm passive agressive.

I know this is a cry for help, but the only thing I can responsibly recommend is tell your father you need to talk to someone.

that's dissapointing.. not as humorous as putting some caffeine in a white powder form..
Still, every individual is responsible for that they injest, unless the manufacturer tries to hide what they put in their products.
And then again, the way we deal with addicts borders on humorous too - like when we see somebody hitting themselves repeatedly with the hammer, we would rather deal with the hammer..

South is what you make it. But it would suck if you were landlocked, weather-wise.
To most, even rednecks can be fun, easy to understand and hard to hate. I'm not racist, my roofer told me proudly, I'm a white supremacist. At least he din't pretend he's something he's not. Where do you find all these Russians, Slavs and Ukrainians, by the way?

Now that I finally got over a tea tray-like display of many flavors of K2 and K3 "insence" in my neighborhood convenience strore, a new product showed up: a rejuvenating "bath salts" - a little ceramic container with a custom combination of legal stimulants in white powder form!

With her wordly views, I don't see her straying very far from the Carolina country. Some redneck will woe her with good old stories of grandpa stringing nig*gers from them trees, smack her when she "tryin' to be smart", and they'll do their duty of propagating their superior race.

What I remember about Allison is her expression: pseudo-evolution, her concern about blond genes pool being endangered because of hair bleaching (that's when I tied this thread to her - her strange expression about guys wanting her for her genes), and the thread about being afraid of authority figures, but white men only. Apparently, that is turning into a sexual fantasy for her.
