Life / Pakistani Muslim studying at the Medical University of Lodz (racism, safety, etc) HELP [23]

maybe shave off your beard and wear non - 'designer' clothes, you know adapt like a westerner would if they were going to live in the Middle East.

For example a woman might put on a head scarf or a man or woman make sure their shoulders are covered and so on.
It is just a question of being polite and not making your own life more difficult than it has to be really isnt it?

Life / Polish culture versus rotten West [279]

.I think i'm still capable of getting up a hill on my own lol

for now dear, for now...:)

Oh and "Ktos" if British parents used 'old fashioned discipline' their children would probably be removed from their care.

" letting a woman struggle for herself on an eueven surface or failing to offer woman a hand while claiming a hill is not a sign of gentlemanly behaviour "

'letting a woman struggle on an uneven surface"

LOL fgs I have a vagina and breasts, not a disability...:)

I would be very suspicious of a man who purported to want to 'take care' of me and treat me as though I were disabled. Perhaps he would want to 'take care' of things if I stayed out too late without his 'permission' as well.

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

Oh, and everybody in Poland over 40 has a TV set because they enjoy gormless "entertainment."

sounds like Poles and Brits have a lot in common then...:)
The only people who are 'rioting' in the UK are spoilt middle class students who fancy a night 'on the edge' or a new pair of trainers.

Work / Poland seeking more natural English speakers [54]

seemed like they could have come from similar backgrounds.

lol right OK, so they seemed as if they could have been homeless.

Well that is slightlydifferent from your original claim that made it sound as though the UK gov't had some scheme where rough sleepers were scooped up and sent off to Poland to be English teachers..:)

Interesting discussion though.

And yes Z., 'left wing' and 'right wing' are pretty common terms. Education in the UK is incredibly variable though.

Work / Poland seeking more natural English speakers [54]

I'm talking more about people with some level of education.

that is the scary thing, they all had degrees and teaching certs...:) You cannot really get into that job in the first place without.
As for the recruitment of homeless people as English teachers....hmm....I find that hard to believe.
Possibly someone was 'pulling your leg'.

I don't know though, Maf, you wouldn't believe some of the illiterates I have met by the photocopier in the various language schools I have taught in ...:)

Certainly I agree that a native speaker will be better with everyday expressions, but I honestly think that non-native teachers can probably explain grammar points better.

you need to move on from your provincial, arrogant mindset L. English is an international language.
Besides, no offence but you make as many errors, if not more, as someone with CPE would.
Try a CPE paper, all four parts.
If you speak French, or Polish to that level, then yes you could correct a lower level learner. but tbh I doubt it..:)

UK, Ireland / Sugar tax in the UK. Polish friends addicted? [55]

Interestingly InPolska, the most obese children in Europe come from the Czech rep, and Poland and the UK are about level.
French children are still relatively sleek ...;)

[moved from]

" Only allow a NATIVE English speaker to correct your English "

Well that is rubbish, sorry. If English is to be an international language, then it also needs international teachers.
If someone has studied English to say, CPE, and then done a TEFL course, then I would argue that their English is better than about 70 to 80 per cent of any native population, and they are perfectly capable of correcting a learner's mistakes.

This provincial attitude to English is a bit irritating tbh.

Classifieds / Coming to Poznan in December - Looking for some girl in Christmas times [33]

The way a lot of men talk about women in PF is sickening.

I know right InPolska! Normal men don't need to talk like that. 'UK girls are easy' just wtf? Why the need to whine about UK women in a thread that has nothing to do with that? IN his wet dreams I daresay..:)

Classifieds / Coming to Poznan in December - Looking for some girl in Christmas times [33]

" Last time I checked it was the girls from the UK who were the easy ones."

Like you would even know. What is this male obsession with monitoring women's sex lives like they are some kind of moral arbiter? When the truth is, men who talk like this are like dogs and would jump on any woman they could. And then insult her for it....

Kind of a bit fecked up IMO.

News / Should recent arrivals to Poland, such as Syrian migrants, be required to learn Polish? [10]

Age-old problem here in the States has always been our openness to receiving other cultures

so when did your folks arrive in the States? Do you really not see the irony of living in a country of immigrants who more or less slaughtered the indigineous population, and then talking like that?

Back on topic (Poland) please

oh yes it was hilarious, I am nearly wetting my knickers. Well actually they were already wet after reading the opening post of this thread...:),

I should add of course that the initial moisture content was caused by irrepressible passion, not 'humor'...:)

Food / Best Polish Potato Variety for Mashing [67]

God, wasn't it terrible about the sponge? Could it have been the eggs do you think?'

LOL ha ha ha , I can just imagine. those grannies would never have had a shop bought cake or biscuit would they?

I must say I do like the Polish spud for mashing, my ex MIL would make a lovely fried pork dish with a sauce that would go over the mash.

No butter or milk for her!

Food / Best Polish Potato Variety for Mashing [67]

my grandmother knew her spuds and was tremendously fussy about them.

oh mine too. At Granny's the potatoes were always served on a side plate, in their skins, for you to skin or not as you pleased.

Then there would always be a long discussion about whether the potatoes were 'floury or soapy'....:)
