Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

You’re not too bright Varsovian, are you? Despite all the hard effort on your part in your attempt to prove OP right, all you have managed to do is to show us that you have married a step down (if that’s even possible in your case LOL) right into that peasant class thus becoming a part of peasant society yourself.
Wroclaw Boy:
Doctors will never ever turn down a bribe.

he married who he married- a woman I presume, he lives in Poland, you don't. I believe him, you on the other hand question him. Why?

My example:

my computer broke down, went to authorized dealer (everything looked good), who wanted to charge me 900 PLN, including charge for reinstalling the software, which I left at home. I refused, got home a week ago and after 5 minutes my computer was fixed for free.

That is stealing and taking every opportunity to make money. I will take it up with the company, so such things will not happen again.

Love / Need Advice: I have fallen in love with a Polish woman... [65]

Thanks aphrodisiac.
I have been the only one to support her to get her own flat and furnish it as she gets no help from anyone else.
I love this woman and I would do anything for her.
Thanks for your comment

good luck to you both:).

Love / Need Advice: I have fallen in love with a Polish woman... [65]

I think we will be together some day I only have to wait

looks like your heart is at the right place, talk to her, or, as you suggested, give her some time, she has enough on her place and it is not easy for her. You seem to be the only support she has at the moment.

Good luck.

Travel / Starbucks in Wawel Castle, Krakow. Is this a joke or true? [42]

who would want an starbucks anyway? the coffe tastes like sewer, it is all about branding, specially among girls who want to feel like sex and the city chraracters, walking around with their paper cup and feeling cool and cosmopolitan...hehe makes me smile...

not really, the coffee is fairly good and with the fast life style the cup to go makes sense, since many people drive with their coffee, unlike in Europe. The coffee culture has been developing in North American long before Sex in the City. I like good coffee and I am not a snob.

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

One thing can definately be said, Poland is an overtly racist country.

I have never had any doubts about that.

The owner of the hotel where we stayed for four days even gave me a bottle of vodka to take home.

that is what I mean. Small things like that make Poland memorable.

Speak in correct English, then maybe we have a chance.

you understand what she means, don't be rude.

Because they have to teach us how to be civilized society. Without them we would be still living in caves. Obviously.

it is not even that. It is the constant need of some people to compare things they are not familiar with what they know at home, without THAT point of reference they are lost and cannot understand their surroundings and I don't think it is exclusively Western way of thinking.

I just came back from Poland and even though there were some old buildings, neglected perhaps, but the genuine advice of a shop keeper on how to make chlodnik was priceless and when he saw me the next day, he actually asked me how it turned out. It is things I will remember about Poland.

The rest is just a dump. Most houses and buildings there deserves to be condemend and bulldozed.

true, but there is no money for it, so they are staying.

The 10% of landmass suitable for living is still bigger than Poland, and we have just 20+ million people.

true Aussie land is 24 times bigger then Poland.

Which made Australia the richest country in the world in terms of flora/fauna and wildlife and made it more exciting than most other countries for nature lovers.

true, but Australia was stolen from the natives, so ...............your wealth is was not made in an hones way. Although, as the ancestors of criminals/unruly people you did pretty well.

Please see your crime rate and notoriously violent and infamous hooligans

yes, we have some good hooligans in Poland, but.........there is hope for Poland, as there has been for Aussie land:). If you could do it, Poland can built a great country in the future.

We played World Cup Soccer in South Africa, you didn't. We rule the world in Rugby, Cricket and Swimming, have more Tennis Grand Slam winners than any other nation in the world except USA! You are a nobody in sports!

true

Our sun baked country won 2 golds at Vancouver, you won 1.

hey, one belonged to a former Canadian, so it does not count.

Our beaches are the world's finest, and the best place to surf in the world, only rivalled by Hawaii and California.

sure, but look at your shoreline- that is not a fair comparison at all.

I saw a mountain goat grazing near Morskie Oko and thats the only wild animal I saw in Poland.

thank God he defended Polish honour when you were there.

Anyways, you arguments are somewhat high school like to be honest.

Poland cannot be compared to Australia, since it is Europe, different history, different architecture, different climate and no waves on the Baltic see.

Work / Negotiating a decent contract. Setting boundaries with employers in Poland [7]

I am due to sign my new one in a month or so (the employment having already been approved by the rector of the university) and am wondering just how much it would be seen as 'bad form' (or a 'pushy foreigner') to insist on a realistic job description?

have the copy of the contract forwarded to you prior to signing, so you have time to review it and prepare questions, but also verbalize you expectations.

"Aussie Sheila", shows a typical version of the "western" style of demanding things.

not really, I know people like that in Poland as well- some people cannot be pleased, nor should they travel at all.

Food / No Vernor's ginger ale in Poland? [29]

Canada, it seems.

not anymore, but I usually drink water anyways.

but in NL there are so many licorice varieties from sweet via salty to very very salty.

I have tried some of that nasty stuff when my cousin was married to a Dutch guy (notice past tense;)

Aphro likes Dutch people a lot.

I don't understand why people are getting upset about a passing through Poland (9 days) tourist who says:

Hel has fine beaches and clean too. Although another disappointment was there was no waves on the sea.

It is a wind up for sure. Aussies are a not that stupid. I met an Aussie in Poland a few weeks ago- my cousin's husband and he was quite tolerant of the differences. Even tried to catch a wireless internet connection in front of the City Hall.

Food / How to cook Kotlety Sojowe, please? [7]

I'm vegetarian and think I have to first soak it in (vegetable) broth for ten minutes.

boil then in that broth or in water spiced with Wegeta.
I looked it up on the internet. From what I remember, they are quite tasty.

Love / Why do Polish women prefer foreigners for boyfriends and husbands? [418]

- well, I have to say I usually get some **** for telling things like they are. But to tell the truth I get waaay less **** from Jews when I say some of our compatriots are a bit too money-grabbing then I get from Poles when I write other things. I guess Jews don't generally take such criticism too personally.

so true. Poles don't take any criticism well at all, yet they are so opinionated about anything and everything.
