Work / Poland is not the best country to get part time job with study? [59]

the increase in degree courses taught in English.

Of what quality? I guess it doesn't matter as long as they dutifully dump the contents of the parent's savings accounts in some 'university's bank account.

Education in English when that's not the language of the country is usually kind of crap.

students who don't speak Polish are working, especially in larger cities

As a bonus for employers they don't understand their rightt and be unable to seek redress if they're ripped off.

We all have 'views' on immigration, yours prioritize the creation of non-Polish (in ethnicity, language and culture) minorities in Poland. To what end?

Language / Verbal Aspect - "składała" vs. "złożyła" [15]

My go-to definition of aspect came from a 1968 book on Czech (intended for foreign students). It describes aspect as a view

imperfective - looking at the event(s) from the point of view of it/them happening

pefective - looking at them from the point of view of them being over and finished

The book is in a box right now so I don't have access to give the exact quote but it helped me with Polish aspect than any other description.

Maybe "Widziałem ten film we wtorek" emphasizes watching the movie rather than it being over.

It's also easy to find Polish native speakers being uncertain about which forms are 'correct' so a lot of details of usage are under constant negotiation (no language is ever finished or completely stable).

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

For somebody who has no problem with Christianity, you complain about it too often.

They're not American ways per se..... he's just going to run you down like a bulldozer over a tin can anytime you express anything except admiration and/or worship of jews.

One author recently suggested that America should have a Jewish history week or month to satisfy the never satisfied Jewish hunger for approval.

History / WWII - who really was the first to help Poland? [900]

most non combatants suvivors eyes (and even some combatants from ak) still preferred nazis over soviets. Hence its high time for poland to get the same reparations

those two statements contradict each other, if they preferred nazis to soviets then what are reparations for?

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

d. Or are you one of those nutjobs who believes even saying the word 'Jew' is antisemitic?

It's only anti-semitic when used as an adjective "Her doctor is a Jew" is okay (though not idiomatic) "Her doctor is Jewish" (normal way of speaking). "She has a Jew doctor." (speaker dislikes Jews or is Jewish and being ironic).

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

no normal person opts for victimhood. First, it's bloody demeaning, secondly, it makes no sense

Then why so many "true" holocaust stories turn out to be lies?

independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/features/why-would-any-writer-make-up-stories-about-the-holocaust-1803275.html

Jews were involved in the slave trade

Also in the US. There was no Christian cross on the Confederate flag so as not to offend Jewish confederate (slave holders).

USA, Canada / Worried about traveling to Poland as Dual Citizen [8]

the whole Poland passport trap :-(

There is no such thing for you. If you only have one passport and don't have Polish citizenship at the moment then you're good to go.

If you do get citizenship and a passport you'd have to use that to enter/leave Poland.

News / Poland's Party of Law and Justice (PiS) reconstruction [38]

"smolensk assassination" stuff was stupid though.

The most interesting thing for me is that JK himself seems to be walking back on the Smolensk stuff, he's already called for a provisional end to the monthly death-fests (he said something like 'three more and they'll go down in history')

The question is will the Smolensk crowd let go or will they carry on without JK as someone else (AM?) tries to take them over as a constituency?

Remind me of one positive thing

jon (and some others) would rather be boiled in oil and pickled before saying something positive about poland and jews...

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

That comes with time.

So you keep saying and the real world keeps not backing you up on that....

Just like there were Polish Jews who contributed to the history and tradition of Poland.

Pole and Jew aren't distinct categories in Poland but rather overlapping circles there is a ton of people (who don't think of themselves as jews) who clearly have some jewish ancestory in Poland. A lot of anti-semitism is projected self-loathing.

Polish anti-semitism has never posed a large scale existential threat to Jewish people the way it had in some other countries (Spain and Russia for example)

they love European culture? Or does desperation and lack of choices come in to it?

Interesting that you finally admit they have no affinity for European culture, how long before you admit that this lack of attachment dooms them to failure and welfare dependency (and petty crime and a bunch of other negative outcomes)?

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

Poland was not a welcoming place for Jews, but it was less unwelcoming than other countries in Europe.

It was a slow horse race that Poland 'won'.

there is considerable antii-semitism in Poland?

It tends to follow them around and last longer than their actual presence, Poland is in no way unique in that regard.

ots of antisemitic attacks happening in many European countries right now. Britain, Germany, France etc

Since Jewish voices were among the loudest in facilitating muslim immigration to Europe..... I'm not hugley sympathetic about belated concerns about anti-semitism.

not that they need my sympathy, Jews tend to not mind attacks from muslims (their main antagonists in Europe at present) for various historical reasons (muslims tend to be disorganized and ineffectual). It's attacks form Christians that freak them out.

News / Poland's Party of Law and Justice (PiS) reconstruction [38]

I think it was Morawiecki's way of letting Europe know that Poland is done being antagonistic for the time being.

Macierewicz was out because he's incompetent and crazy and a liability in elections and getting in a public p1ssing match with the president, Duda is more popular than JK or AM so guess who had to go...

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

People studying oin a degree course in a language that isn't their own (English) are generally too busy to study a Slavonic language at the same time,

the only reasons that people have for not learning the language of the country they live in are stupidity and laziness, and having a bunch of people who can't organize anything on their own is hardly an asset

as well as the growing number of part-time jobs available to overseas students will hopefully attract more interest.

Why? What's the end game here? What is the ideal ethno-racial and religious mix for Poland in your opinion?

So? The common language and language of inter-ethnic communication should be Polish. Creating jobs for people who don't speak the local language is usually a tool of economic oppression (if they don't know the local language they're kind of helpless) and/or a vehicle of chain migration - neither of which is very good.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

restaurants like that provide badly needed part-time jobs which don't require Polish

Why are jobs that don't require Polish needed?

and also serve to bring nations, and religions, together.

Except..... when the employees kill locals, that is.....

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

The students I send to Poland from Africa don't need to work - they get funding from their government and another source

What's the graduation rate? What's the return to home country after studies rate?

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

there are opportunities for overseas students to work in Poland

But not enough opportunities to support themselves while studying, that type of job is meant to extra money not as a sole means of support (which is what the recruiting agents are telling them it is)

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

And studenty jobs are meant to provide pocket and/or beer money. There's no way for a person to actually pursue a course of studies, pay for said studies and pay for an apartment and food on a studenty job.

If a person doesn't pay for studies and devotes all their time to a few studenty jobs while living crammed 15 people into a 2 room apartment.... maybe. But why would you encourage someone to follow that path?

Love / I want to bring her here but not her son. [9]

Should I just follow his footsteps?

Quick question: Do you have any morals whatsoever?

1. yes
2. no

If the answer is 2 then go ahead with your plan of having her abandon her child.

Classifieds / Quran translation - I am from UK and looking for a muslim Polish man in UK [75]

why people should read the Quran before making any comment or debate, some silly things on the internet thats for sure.

I don't care what the holy book says, I care what the people who claim to follow it actually do. Therefore rather than read the koran I go to islamqa.info/en which is run by a prominent salafi cleric and which is the most popular salafi site in the arabic speaking world.

It's also pretty representitive of the sunni convergence - the set of core beliefs and practices that have been spreading over the last 35 years or so across the sunni world at ever increasing speeds. Go there and put things like non-muslim, slavery, homosexuality into the search bar and be enlightened on the type of advice that muslims receive (all backed up by copious references to the koran and hadiths)

Hadiths should never be confused with the words of the Quran.

Who cares? I don't. But a majority of muslims pay a lot of attention to them and try to follow them and they are therefore one of the major religious motivators.

Life / Costs of living in Bialystok [17]

Did you look at the list of requirements the OP has??

Well they don't seem very realistic or show much knowledge of how things work in Poland.
