News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

Of course we can do nothing but will that change anything?

My question is "Will doing something change anything?"
And the answer is clearly NO!

What is the point of small European countries trying to be more ecologically sound when China and India continue to massively pollute?

News / What the Polish government do to bring back home Polish immigrants? [116]

People will have to ask themselves what country really is their home. After a decade or more

So true.
I know of many people who have returned to their country of origin, only to find that it has changed beyond recognition and is no longer the country they left.

Many of them try to come back to The UK, but if you have sold property here to buy abroad, by the time you have realised your mistake, you can no longer afford a UK property because the prices rise so quickly.

As far as I imagine, the US is much more obsessed with PC than Europe

Oh no, The UK is at least as bad, if not worse than The US when it comes to being PC.
That is one reason we all love Poland so much :-)

@atch
You have a very dismissive attitude to Polish history.
Is that perhaps because Poland actually has a history whereas your country was subdued and overwhelmed for nearly 800 years?

He wasn't that faithful himself.

I don't know if that is true or not.Do you?
But it doesn't matter because he was The King.
In those days he could do whatever he liked.
We can't judge people from 50 years ago with todays crazy morals.
Less so people from ancient history.
Do you not get that?

Humankind seems like you are talking to aliens to me :-)

In what way do you find it beyond belief?

1.The Szlachta.
2.Royal elections.
3.The number of times Poland has been partitioned and returned.
4.The Battle of Vienna.

That's just off the top of my head.

All pretty unusual.

Have you ever seen the Prince Regent's stables at Brighton Pavillion?

I haven't, but point taken.
But I meant that Polish history in general is quite beyond belief sometimes, not just those stables.

horses were kept in stables tiled with marble and giant mirrors on the walls.

I read that.
Polish history is quite beyond belief sometimes :-)

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

Not believing in God in no way negates the benefits of teaching kids morality

Kids should be taught morality, that it is not happening in Western schools is a disgrace.
But it has nothing to do with religion.

I have to agree with you here and when Christians start quoting from the bible, I find that just as creepy as when Muslims start quoting from the koran.....

Polonia / Do Polish immigrants support Polish products? [8]

Yes,. very true, but doesn`t it apply to such madness as transporting strawberries from Australia to Europe? I

Britain does not need to import strawberries, though we do, because British strawberries are the best.
Out of season in Britain?
Don't eat imported strawberries, they have no flavour.

Travel / Requirements for bringing a Dog into Poland [30]

Oh. and Poles go all precious about your dog being on seats on public transport

Bloody right. Why should dogs take up a seat on public transport?
Did your dog pay for a ticket?

How dare you impose your smelly dog on people

Agreed.Dogs have their place for some, but should never be imposed on others.
People need to have respect for other people, just because you love your dog does not mean others will too.

Polonia / What are qualites of Germans? [60]

They were Serbs

Utter rubbish.
When The Slavs migrated to Poland, Germanic tribes lived there.
There is absolutely no link between Germans and Slavs ( besides obvious mixing of people )
And certainly no links to Serbs.
Now go away you silly little man!

Language / English borrowings in Polish [38]

You're advocating laziness

Yeah, maybe, though it is not compulsory.... :-)

Most people are lazy and they dictate the direction in which language goes, not purists like you.

Language / English borrowings in Polish [38]

I am highly critical of borrowings which replace the words which already exist in the Polish language

Why?
If the new words are accepted as being better or more acceptable, why not?
Languages do not stay still, they evolve and change.....usually for the better.

Language / So why did you give up learning Polish? [105]

@Milo, unless you're being sarky, NO language is linguistically, culturally or morally superior to another

I am not being sarky, English is linguistically by far the most superior language in the world.
This subject is for another thread, but English has so many advantages that it will become, some may say that it already is, the global language.
