Study / My experience in Poland (Poznan) as a student who recently moved from Syria [117]

Why is it annoying?

because they give me 1 gorszy back :P which means more coins in my wallet

Actually SYP was fairly stable until mid May.What happened is Syria then?PLN gained over 100% to SYP since.

sometimes ,the crash of the SYP is related to a major event happening (a major battle ,a political decision "like the american strike ) .

It's amazing how the syrian pound hasn't collapsed yet ,I'm gonna explain briefly what made the syrian pound loses its value that much .

1- the economic embargo that the US and EU imposed on syria ,which means less foreign money in our central bank (that comes from exports of syrian goods )

2-of course ,the unstable condition due to the war ,lots of areas have fallen into the hands of the rebel and some main roads (between cities ) which affected greatly internal trades .

3- some people started a business from buying and selling foreign monetary ,those people did the most damage to the syrian pound .

Does Syria use coins much

yes we do ,but not like this ,since polish zloty is stronger than the syrian pound ,I guess it's normal that I see more coins in poland ,it's probably me doing something wrong ,when people pay they just show the cashier all their coins ,and the cashier takes the needed coins .

take them only to be nice

me too

Such a waste of paper (and trees).

yep

I went to biedronka to buy some beer ,so the cashier told started telling me something in polish ,I gently replied "nie mowie po polsku" , she pointed to my wallet and removed my syrian ID card (it's all in arabic ) the look on her face was priceless :P so I understood that she wanted verification for my age ,I gave her my polish passport she was more amazed :P .

why do I look so under-aged :/

Life / Help with icons, signs on washing machine (from Poland) :P [17]

a half full load at the most.

yeah ,sometimes it's even less ,since it's only a 1 person's laundry .just wanted to make sure that "cupboard dry" don't ruin clothes or make the colors fade away .

Remember, with automatic washing machines, they may well have all the bells and whistles, but you only really use 10% at most of all those settings. I only use 2 on mine. The rest are largely for show.

lol ok .

Life / Help with icons, signs on washing machine (from Poland) :P [17]

Crikey - looks like a complicated washing machine. If in doubt, the one that looks a bit like a triangle at 10 o'clock is for synthetics. Nothing will be damaged if you mostly use that one.

I've started washing my clothes before reading your response ,i'm washing white clothes ,I was watching the washing machine all day (because every time I go ,I found out that someone is already using it ,maybe because it's sunday ) ,so most of them chose the Icon that is displayed in the picture ,I did the same now ... we'll see what happens

Life / Why foreigners in Poland do not respect Poland's culture and traditions? [68]

By taking sides, up his nose at things he/she doesn't really understand, making unsound comparsions, talking smack, thinking his culture is better and his/her way of doing things is much better; general acting and being disrespectful.
Do not apply in cases where somebody is doing soemthimng wrong or bad or plain stupid but that is not part of traditions just culture and traditions could be used as an excsue for wrongdoing.

oh ok ,I'm not like that ,so i'm good :P

I hear the jokes and rolling of their eyes when i tell them im polish. They say that figures. Ignorance is bliss to them.

oh so those people are stereotyping ...

they're heating it pretty good . I get hot actually and open the windows a little bit .

and I don't know if you have any need for radiators in Syria

lol we have cold winters and hot summers and warm springs ,you on the other hand :P *check the picture you posted here * :P

Good thread, Dany.
Don't get bogged down by posters with their own agenda.
You have more readers here because of your fresh perspective on Poland.
Keep it going!

thank you :)

Let's hope they're well maintained in his building - I've lived in places where the system hasn't been flushed out for decades and the heat never reaches above the second floor!

My dorms are modern and very well equipped ,and I live on the first floor anyway :P

Love this thread Dany!
I was once in your position and remember vividly to this day my experiences.
It's fun for me to re-live vicariously through you those moments
Please continue with your chronicle

ok ,thank you :)

Why?

because I need the syrian government to know that i'm living abroad (If I live abroad for 5 years ,I can pay a fee to not go to the military ) ,also I need to take a paper from the university (that i'm attending the university ) to the syrian embassy so that I can postpone my military service .
